For 36 years, people near and far have flocked to DiNardo’s Ristorante Italiano — “an Italian oasis in Pound Ridge” — for the freshest, highest-quality meals. Don’t look for canned vegetables here, and all pastas and pizza dough are made from scratch. Enter DiNardo’s relaxed, family-friendly front room and you can always choose pizza — a hit with everyone! — but sophisticated entrée choices are available there, too. Experience unique dining options in the cozy, romantic, yet modern back rooms. Lamb osso buco; homemade spinach and ricotta gnocchi with sweet peas, grape tomatoes and pancetta; and fillet of sole filled with shrimp and lobster sautéed in white wine and lemon sauce are just a few of the menu’s upscale choices. Lunch is always a treat at DiNardo’s: lots of salads and paninis with imported meats and cheese from Italy to choose from. Front and back sides both offer an extensive wine list of about 400 labels with a concentration of Italian wines. Whether homemade or imported from Italy, desserts please the sweetest tooth! Reservations required on weekends for back rooms only. Gift certificates available. All menu items available for takeout. Hours: Lunch: Tuesday through Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m. Dinner: Tuesday through Thursday, from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 10:30 p.m., Sunday to 9:30 p.m.

pen in Scotts Corners since fall of 2008, Pinocchio Pizza has taken the area by storm. World-champion pizza maker Bruno DiFabio and his crew aren’t kidding about their motto, “In Crust We Trust.” They use the classic coldrise Italian method, making crusts airier, crispier and more digestible than anywhere else. Pies cook seven to 10 minutes to customer specification in a rotating stone oven. Bruno uses only the finest ingredients — Pillsbury high-gluten flour and fresh yeast, Grande mozzarella from Wisconsin, Stanislaus tomatoes from California — to create a wide variety of pizzas. Whole pies are only the beginning at Pinocchio, where you’ll find gourmet slices, chix rolls, focaccia, salads, soups, pasta, seafood, desserts and more. Call for fullservice catering. Pinocchio’s menu is online. Or call ahead — knowledgeable, friendly order takers will guide you through the choices. Eat in at one of Pinocchio’s café-style tables or ask for pickup or delivery. Fast, fresh delivery is GPS-guided; orders stay piping hot in insulated bags. Open seven days. Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 11 p.m., Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

The most important aspects of music education are instilling the love of learning in beginning students and inspiring advanced students. Teachers at Amadeus — with classes for all ages in Bedford at St. Matthew’s Church — know ďŹ rst-hand the joy of learning and mastering an instrument. Professional musicians with degrees from top conservatories such as Juilliard and Curtis have extensive teaching experience and they enjoy passing on that passion. Amadeus offers a wide range of private lessons in all orchestral and band instruments plus voice, piano, electric guitar and drums. Preschoolers learn violin, cello and guitar using the Suzuki method, or join group classes to play xylophone, recorder, ukulele, violin and bongo drums. Children not yet sure which instrument they prefer have a great time in Mr. B.’s classes, singing and dancing while he plays classics such as Beethoven’s 5th Symphony on piano! Parents can sign up for free mini-lessons in Bedford. Contact Amadeus or go online to learn more about the conservatory, its mission, teaching professionals and extensive course selection.

red Bartasek and Doug Seldmair of Complete Nutrition in Bedford Hills say just 1 percent of the population gets everything needed from food on a daily basis, and that’s why Complete Nutrition’s products — of the highest quality, at outlet prices — are doubly important. All major brands are stocked, as are those from many specialty companies. With two decades of industry experience, Fred advises everyone to bring nutritional supplements into their lives in order to “look better, feel better, perform better.” “With pollution and the way products are transported long distances, food sources are being de-riched and you can’t fight off free radicals,” he continues. But choosing the correct supplements can be daunting without expert advice. Complete Nutrition’s trained staff asks important questions, learning about each client’s lifestyle, allergies and nutritional habits. “We thrive on our customer service,” Fred, a master personal trainer, says. “We have absolutely no problem spending an hour or more helping a person find what he or she needs to live healthily and enjoyably.” Personal training, yoga and Pilates, hypnosis, nutritional and weight-loss counseling available. For 14 years in Norwalk, Conn., and eight years in Bedford Hills, Fountainhead Wines has been bringing value-oriented wines — in all price ranges and styles — to its thirsty patrons. As savvy wine buyers know, it’s easy to overspend on wines that leave the imbiber looking for more. Owners Mike Pelletier and Mark Ancona have spent a combined 40 years deep in the wine trade — in London and New York — ferreting out small production, quality-driven wines that offer wine drinkers much more for their dollar. Fountainhead Wines directly sources from 15 European growers in France, Germany and Italy and handles perhaps the most cutting-edge portfolio of Oregonian pinot noir on the East Coast. Mike and Mark taste a dizzying array of wines throughout the year from the best importers to ensure the best selection in whatever category the patron desires: full-bodied reds in the $10 to $15 range, lighter whites in the $15 to $20 range, etc. Mike and Mark are also responsible for the wine selections at Fat Cat Pie Co. in Norwalk, their wine bar that was named one of the top 50 wine experiences in the country by Food and Wine magazine. Hours: Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.

helps Memorial Hospital Center recently celebrated the opening of a spacious new facility dedicated to the treatment of acute and chronic pain disorders. The Pain Center is under the direction of orthopedic spine surgeon, Richard Peress, M.D. Therapeutic treatments offered at the Center include epidural steroid injections for spine pain, trigger-point injections for muscle pain, nerve blocks, joint injections, spinal cord stimulator implantation for pain that is unresponsive to other treatment, and radio-frequency denervation (de-activation of nerves to painful back or neck joints so that they no longer transmit pain messages to the brain). A diagnostic test called discography helps to pinpoint sources of back and neck pain not diagnosed by MRI scans. Phelps’ comprehensive approach to managing pain is based on successful teamwork. Medical specialists from many disciplines — including pain management, physical medicine, anesthesia, neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery — and nurses experienced in pain management work together with the patient’s primary care physician to diagnose and manage the cause of acute and chronic pain. “Many patients think pain is a normal part of aging and they have to live with it, but that’s not always true, says Martha Maresco, nurse manager of the Pain Center and the Ambulatory Surgery Unit, who is certified in pain-management nursing. “There are many things that can be done now to relieve pain and allow people to return to their activities of daily living. The Pain Center is located in the hospital’s West Wing, with designated parking for Pain Center patients conveniently located near the entrance. r. Susan Friedman of HealthSource of Rye Brook says spinal decompression is the past decade’s most important advance in the nonsurgical, noninvasive treatment of back pain. A doctor of chiropractic, Dr. Friedman and her team specialize in low back pain. HealthSource professionals also treat headaches and other cervical, neck and joint problems. New patients receive a comprehensive, thorough physical history and examination, aided — if necessary — by diagnostic procedures including X-ray, MRI and CT scan. “We create an individualized treatment protocol featuring nonsurgical spinal decompression, progressive rehabilitation, soft tissue support, massage therapy and nutritional support, Dr. Friedman says. Many HealthSource of Rye Brook patients come in because they were told surgery was the only option, and they are unhappy with that prospect for a variety of reasons. “Some have already been through back surgery and don’t want to go through a second round, Dr. Friedman says. “We’re here to help. Progressive rehabilitation is the key element, she adds. Gently removing nerve root interference is essential before active rehabilitation and exercise begin. “Spinal decompression has quite frankly revolutionized our practice, says Dr. Friedman. “We now can help patients who otherwise would have had to live in pain for the rest of their lives. Patients from all over come to us when other treatments have failed to give them relief. Hours: By appointment, Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 2:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

ale Longworth is often referred to as the Lice Expert of Dobbs Ferry. Inspired by her daughter’s three-month battle with head lice 14 years ago, Dale opened Lice Off, Inc., which specializes in head lice removal throughout Westchester County and the NY-metro area. Dale employs traveling technicians, and clients can either visit her or the staff will come to you. The lice removal process is extensive, though it employs all-natural products and guarantees results. First, Dale treats the hair with a natural enzyme shampoo that is massaged into the head for five minutes and then sits on the head for 20 minutes. eace, love and dogs is the mantra at Buddy’s Barking Lot Doggie Daycare and Canine Training Center. Open since 2004, Buddy’s is a very special place, run by very special people. Eileen Fleming-Giaccio, the president, founder and “official pack leader” is extremely proud of her staff and canine clients. Along with Eileen, Liz Marsek, Jen Fay and Wanda Townes spend each day caring for their canine customers, who would otherwise be left home alone. The clients at Buddy’s range in size from 125pound German shepherds to 4-pound toy poodles. “Everyone gets along beautifully. There are no crates or cages, and there is a sense of peace among

the pack on a daily basis,” Eileen explains. The secret to the calm is in the doggie interview. “Each dog is interviewed just to make sure they would be comfortable in our setting,” Eileen says. “We can’t and won’t allow any dogs with aggressive tendencies.” The dogs at Buddy’s thrive together, learn together, play together and cuddle together. They also welcome every newcomer as if they’ve been friends since puppyhood! Aside from day care during the week, Buddy’s Barking Lot has group and private training lessons on weekends. Wanda Townes, the staff dog trainer, even offers free dog training seminars on Saturdays at 11 a.m. Visit Buddy’s Barking Lot on YouTube and friend them on Facebook.
