FOREWORD
Helena Arnetta Puteri Regional Chairperson AMSA-Indonesia 2020/2021
Hello, People of Tomorrow! Since it was first established in 1996, AMSA-Indonesia has grown to become one of the largest medical students’ organizations in Indonesia. Spread across 36 universities in six districts, thousands of medical students throughout the nation are proud to call AMSA home. As an organization whose true essence lies in its core philosophies: Knowledge, Action and Friendship, AMSA-Indonesia places a great focus on providing opportunities and experiences for its members to develop holistically as future doctors in Indonesia. With that purpose at heart, AMSA-Indonesia conducts a plethora of programs, projects and events that aim to ignite the potentials of its members in the field of knowledge, provide a platform to give back through action and a home that fosters friendships that transcends geographical borders. Twenty four years has passed since AMSA-Indonesia’s journey began. At the age of 24, AMSA-Indonesia continues to grow but our story was not written alone. Over the years, we have actively sought opportunities to collaborate with various
parties, from governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations to partnerships. Since 2018, AMSAIndonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia, establishing AMSA-Indonesia as their official partner in actualizing better health of our country. Among our other partners include Kementerian Riset, Teknologi dan Pendidikan Tinggi Republik Indonesia, Ikatan Dokter Indonesia, Komite Penanganan COVID-19 dan Pemulihan Ekonomi Nasional, Yayasan Pita Kuning Anak Indonesia, AIESEC and Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) Youth. With all the potential, energy and enthusiasm that our organization brings, we always look forward to future collaborations and cooperations with various organizations and parties that share our vision and values. As Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Together, may we ignite the potentials and unleash all possibilities! Through the Official Booklet of AMSAIndonesia 2020/2021, we are proud to formally introduce our organization and hopefully give you a better glimpse of our values and activities as an organization. Should there be any inquiries, do not hesitate to contact us through the contact details available in this booklet.
“Igniting Potentials, Unleashing Possibilities” Thank you. Viva AMSA!
AMSA International The Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) International is the peak representative organisation for medical students from across Asia, the Asia-Pacific and beyond. Training doctors from 15 Full Member Nations, 3 Associate and 11 Observer Nations combine to share knowledge, undertake activities and social services and create international and trans-continental friendships. AMSA International was officially founded at the sixth Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC), which was held at Manila, the Philippines, in 1985. Enthusiastic AMSA members from nine different nations – Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand, gathered at the conference and founded the prestigious international organisation. The member nations increased gradually as the founding members of AMSA inspired neighbouring countries with its admirable vision. Today, AMSA International has grown into a dynamic student-led, not-for-profit, non-political organisation. With members and friends spanning the globe, AMSA International has branched and introduced many exciting subsidiaries and activities to be undertaken regionally and nationally within the member nations. With our partners and sponsors, we are able to have interorganizational collaborations of academic, sociocultural and public health coverage, not to forget, the exchange projects that have managed to foster trans-continental long-lasting friendships.

Thus, LO for GO and LO for NGO open the golden opportunity for every AMSA-Indonesia’s members, alongside their own local NGOs, to give their best contributions to health issues through public health improvement. Gratefully, starting from 2018, AMSA-Indonesia has become the official partner of Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia. AMSA-Indonesia has agreed to fully support the main focus of Kemenkes, which is GERMAS (Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat), through our work program such as health education and community empowerment. In 2012, 2013, and 2015, AMSA-Indonesia had the opportunity to work together with Yayasan Pita Kuning Anak Indonesia (YPKAI), Evio Production, and Community for Children with Cancer (C3) to successfully organize a groundbreaking movement called Shave for Hope. This event was recorded as the largest hair shaving for charity event for childhood cancer patients and survivors in Indonesia, and has significantly increased people’s awareness about childhood cancer. This year, AMSA-Indonesia longs to, again, come up with novel and innovative campaign ideas and collaborations to improve health status in Indonesia.
