EPOA AGM 2015 -‐ AMSTERDAM WELCOME

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear members of EPOA , On behalf of the City of Amsterdam, I'd like to welcome you to our wonderful city. For 20 editions now, each summer we celebrate Amsterdam Gay Pride, a festival which contributes in its own unique way to a tolerant and LGBT friendly atmosphere and of which we are very proud. Therefore we are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to extend this powerful event on a bigger scale with the upcoming EuroPride 2016. Of course we will give full support to make it into a festive event of great importance. However, at this time, first and foremost, I would like to invite you as my special guests at the 'Ambtswoning' for drinks on Friday September 4th. I hope to see you all there. Yours sincerely,

Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam

EPOA AGM 2015 -‐ AMSTERDAM EURO PRIDE 2016

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Since EuroPride 1994 took place in Amsterdam our festival evolved into one of the biggest and best celebrations of its kind around the globe attracting over 500.000 participants and visitors to stay and play in Amsterdam. For the EuroPride 2016 our festival will last two weeks, from July 23 till August 7. With a Pink Saturday Celebration in the Erasmus park and the Pridewalk on July 30th, a European TV concert on the Dam Square on Sunday July 31st, and our mind blowing street parties and world famous Boat Parade in the closing weekend. Under the motto JOIN OUR FREEDOM we call on everyone to show we are Proud to live in freedom and have the right to be ourselves and love the one we want. We will celebrate that freedom but at the same time continue the struggle for equal rights within the EU, until we can say with full confidence that we are really free to be who we are, build our own kinds of families and pursue the lives and careers we deserve. So that we are accepted and embraced with dignity by our families, neighbours and colleagues anywhere in the Union. Compared to a regular Amsterdam Gay Pride, EuroPride will also be distinguished by the many important international LGBT conferences, sports and other events that will take place, including The World Conference for LGBT law enforcement and criminal justice professionals, The European Bisexual Conference, International Workplace Pride Conference, Smashing Pink Tennis Tournament, The European and International LGBT Choir Festival at the Royal Concert Hall. Also many prominent Amsterdam Museums will show special LGBT related collections and participate in a unique EuroPride Art route that will also contain objects in public space. We will also celebrate 15 years of same-sex-marriage. Amsterdam Gay Pride Foundation is very proud to be organizing the AGM 2015 and the EuroPride 2016. We welcome everybody attending this annual general meeting and hope you have a productive and great stay and we wish to welcome you again next year.

Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht In October 2012, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht opened its doors on the site of the former Public Library on the Prinsengracht. Marvellously located in the cultural heart of Amsterdam, the five-star, lifestyle hotel is surrounded by the creative scene and dynamic character of the lively Jordaan district and adjacent “Nine Streets.” The hotel is within close walking distance of the city’s major attractions, as well as prime retail and business districts. Reflecting its energetic and distinctive surroundings the hotel is devoted to providing highly personalized, uncomplicated service in an atmosphere that authentically embraces the best of Amsterdam. Every space is uniquely designed by Dutch architect and designer, Marcel Wanders, reflecting a modern and adventurous view of Dutch history and local culture. Throughout the hotel, Wanders played with various sources of inspiration, integrating the heritage of the hotel surroundings (e.g. tulips, the Golden Age and Dutch Delft blue) and the knowledge contained in the books once housed at the former Public Library. The designer also emphasized connecting polarities, highlighting Amsterdam’s profile as a cultural melting pot and representing non-related elements stitched together to form a new logical whole. Part of the hotel’s overall design concept incorporates a unique video-art collection that represents a diversion from mainstream art. More than 40 unique works from various emerging and established local and international video artists, such as Ryan Gander, Erwin Olaf and Mark Titchner, make Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht the hotel with the largest video-art collection in the world. EPOA AGM 2015 -‐ AMSTERDAM WORKSHOPS

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

WORKSHOP – NEW MEMBERS By Ruben de Keyser and Tomasz Baczkowski

WORKSHOP 3 – CULTURE @ PRIDE By Bjorn Stenvers

Both Ruben and Tomasz are board members of EPOA. In this workshop you will find out all about the by-laws, how the organization works, what to expect from your membership and how to place a bid for the EuroPride licence.

In this workshop we’ll discuss the meaning of arts & culture for pride festivals and on how to create a platform of allies in the cultural industry. Björn has worked as a marketer in the Netherlands' cultural sector for a number of years and is currently head of Marketing & Commercial affairs at the Amsterdam Heritage Museum and all the museums they support.

WORKSHOP 1 – HOW TO GET MEDIA ATTENTION By Danny de Vries

WORKSHOP 4 – TOWARDS AN LGBTI INCLUSIVE PRIDE By Renate Hartman

How can we help media to focus on to why we organize pride? Danny de Vries: "As a journalist, I wondered about the level of regular press releases. Who wants to send information must first consider who is the recipient. You do not get attention. Attention must be earned.”

How can pride organizers create an inclusive pride for the entire LGBTI community? In an open discussion we’ll discuss 'visibility' and 'participation' and ways in which we can achieve that. Renate works as International Project officer for COC Netherlands, the association that has been advocating the rights of LGBTI’s from 1946.

WORKSHOP 2 - HOW TO MARKET YOUR PRIDE By Sebas van der Sangen

WORKSHOP 5 - PRIDE AND POLICIES

In this workshop we will have an open dialogue on how prides and city marketing can cooperate in order to promote the city as a tolerant place to live in and to visit. Sebas works as a press officer for Amsterdam Marketing and for the municipality he coordinates the cultural events during the Dutch EU presidency in 2016.

In what ways can local and (inter)national governments support your pride event? Besides sharing experiences Juul will shed some light on how to make your governments work for you. Juul is a senior adviser at MOVISIE, a knowledge centre in the field of social development. In that role she is concerned with supporting the Rainbow Cities Network.

By Juul van Hoof

Attention! To assure that you get the conference you want we give you the opportunity to decide which three of the five workshops will be available. Please make your preference known in the booking form. If you are a new member or prospect you can also attend the additional New Member workshop on Friday morning at 10:00

EPOA AGM 2015 -‐ AMSTERDAM PARTY PROGRAM

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Amsterdam is famous for its tolerant and open atmosphere. It was one of the first cities with an extensive open gay scene. The real city centre of Amsterdam is in a way a small village and all (pink) bars, pubs and clubs are at a walking distance of your hotel. The nightlife is vibrant with many gay & lesbian bars and hotspots. Saturday night after diner is the opportunity to see what our capital is offering. You can go for a bar-hopping event in which you can meet different people in one single night while going from one bar to another. Or go to a nightclub and end your rocking night in Amsterdam’s fun nightclubs. Meet the friendly Dutch people to and party. Next day you can share your experience with your colleagues with a coffee and alka seltzer.

EPOA AGM 2015 -‐ AMSTERDAM SLEEPING IN CREATIVITY & LUXURY

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

On the back wall of each hotel room of Hotel Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht sits a giant photographic image known as a Connected Polarity. A connected polarity takes take two unsuspecting items a fish head and an object tail and stitches them together to create a new, surprising whole (the Amsterdam city logo is three xxx ) The idea stems from the notion that while Amsterdam is a creative and tolerant city, a city that is open minded enough to begin a conversation without preconceived ideas; it remains a constant challenge to stay this way. By embracing two opposites or two objects that seem not to relate and showing how they can connect to become a unique whole we keep this special quality alive. Thus fish and spoon, fish and brush, fish and vase sit harmoniously on the walls of Andaz as one, demonstrating the mission to embrace the polarities within the city and to keeping an open mind. So a great way for sleeping in creativity!
