HI-TECH AUTOMATION FOR A HI-TECH COMPANY

IBM had high audio-visual ambitions for this design-led space

management solution and a greatly simplified user experience. The new system includes AMX Enova DVX all-in-one presentation switchers, Modero X Series panoramic touch panels, wireless touch panels and much more; all of which combine to deliver a highly sophisticated system that is incredibly intuitive to use. “Considering the special type of space, the framework of AMX programming was more flexible and more suitable for our needs,” says Thepadol Dardarananda, Manager, IBM Software Briefing Program. “The technical infrastructure, despite its complexity, becomes transparent to end users. Moreover, the wireless touch panels release us from the use of conventional podiums.”

Designed to provide all the tools needed to explore IBM technology and innovation in an exciting and immersive environment, the new Software Executive Briefing Center in Rome is a showcase for how audiovisual technologies can be harnessed to give an elevated customer experience. Recently expanded and comprehensively refurbished, the Software Executive Briefing Center, or the EBC for short, is the place where IBM’s major clients go to learn about the latest software solutions and how they can be used to meet their needs. Typically, clients will attend whole days of presentations and demonstrations, this means the EBC has to be both flexible and comfortable in its design. In addition to the dramatic lighting and modern interior scheme, which features the IBM logo as a key thematic element, the remodel was to include the addition of the most advanced audio-visual technology available today. In order to realise its AV ambitions, IBM turned to AMX and an all-encompassing control and presentation solution which is helping to ensure that technology enhances, rather than detracts, from the EBC experience.

Accommodating up to 40 people, the Enrico Fermi room is the biggest event space in the Center and can be counted on for flawless technical reliability; a testament to how important it is to invest in the right control platform. In this room, a rear-projection system projects onto a floor-to-ceiling glass video screen which can be used as a whole, or split into sections, depending on the needs of a particular presentation. The Rasettia and Segrè rooms also feature an impressive technical specification, including 103” plasma displays and 46” LCDs.

The new digital products from AMX have been well received; giving users an unrivalled experience, while at the same time reducing the complexity of the control system architecture and making the system future-ready.

It’s the AMX control system, however, that ties it all together; with no fewer than six NetLinx Controllers operating behind the scenes, each one affording the ability to integrate a large number of devices. AMX’s Enova DVX-2155HD all-in-one presentation controller dramatically simplifies AV control and distribution in this technology-driven environment. An AV matrix switcher, scaler, analogue to digital signal converter, twisted pair transmitter and amplifier with built-in audio processor, the Enova DVX-2155HD allows for the easy integration of HDCP into the Center’s system design. AMX’s exclusive InstaGate Pro technology provides a future-ready solution, with the DVX2155HD’s multi-format video inputs supporting both analogue and digital signals, including HDMI with HDCP sources, all in the same connector. The stateof-the-art, professional grade audio DSP delivers quality audio throughout the facility, whilst built-in SmartScale outputs video that is perfectly scaled for each of the Center’s connected displays.

Modero touch panels provide an intuitive interface, greatly simplifying the way in which IBM’s presenters interact with the technology around them. A stunning, 19” Modero X Series tabletop touch panel sits neatly in this design-led space. Its panoramic capacitive multi-touch screen allows users to access multiple applications with minimal navigation, including the HD audio and video subsystems and videoconferencing functions. This dynamic space is further enhanced with the addition of AMX’s Inspired XPress digital signage platform. Four compact players provide a small yet powerful solution, allowing IBM to manage all aspects of its digital signage, including content creation.

The EBC is both flexible and comfortable by design

“The new digital products from AMX have been well received; giving users an unrivalled experience, while at the same time reducing the complexity of the control system architecture and making the system future-ready.” Adds Thepadol Dardarananda. “AMX allows for the integration of a wide range of functions, across different types of systems including projectors, input/output, audio, videoconferencing, lights, blinds etc, and makes them accessible and operational with just one touch of a panel.” A U T O M AT E
