EDUCATION INVESTING FOR THE FUTURE, WITH AMX

Innovative AMX technology ensures optimal, professional-grade audio and video, from virtually any source.

With its innovative design and high-tech specification, the Sparkassenakademie offers employees of the Sparkasse Finance Group of Baden-Wuerttemberg unrivalled opportunities for professional development. This purpose-built and fully residential training facility, with its suite of well-equipped classrooms, training rooms and conference rooms, harnesses the very latest in communication and collaboration technologies to afford delegates the chance to hone their skills in banking and management in a state-of-the-art environment. And, sitting at the heart of this impressive system is a unified, flexible and future-ready AMX solution which is helping this leading savings bank invest for its future, in more ways than one.

“It’s been our ambition to catch up with the level of technology of other educational institutes. It is a matter of fact that with this solution, new standards were set in terms of the technological level, operational security, control concept and service.” Marcus Arnold, head of department, PE Information Technology and Internal Services. The backbone to the technological provision, AMX allows for the complete standardisation and networking of all rooms linked by audio, video and control technology. Multiple Enova units successfully resolve AV issues for digital video distribution while enabling connected devices to be centrally monitored, managed and controlled over the IT infrastructure. This technologically impressive system boasts not one but three dedicated technology rooms, each of which has its own Enova DGX 64 digital media switcher, equipped with the very latest in integrated NetLinx NX technology to facilitate the support and management of IP-controlled AV products across the Sparkassenakademie network. The industry’s first modular digital media switchers with a built-in central controller, the DGX units successfully manage and distribute analogue plus digital audio and video signals around the seminar floor and conference floor without any of the typical problems associated with HDCP authenticated content distribution and switching. An Enova DVX All-in-One presentation switcher in each technology room ensures optimal, professional-grade audio and video quality from virtually any source, whilst built-in SmartScale technology outputs video that is automatically

Located in the heart of Stuttgart, Sparkassenakademie is a flagship facility for human resources development designed to maximise the performance of individuals within the organisation through the provision of a high quality learning experience. With technological expectations high, a centralised control and distribution solution was the key to realising true digital convergence around this vast estate which includes a 56 room conference centre; a dedicated training wing with 40 seminar rooms, 15 work rooms, 6 conference rooms and a large hall for 600 people; plus 150 hotel rooms for delegates, complete with child-care, hospitality and catering provision. Standardising on AMX has enabled the Sparkassenakademie to overcome the complexity of managing and controlling its vast array of installed technology with one unified, scalable and fully networked system.

scaled for each connected display, at its optimal native resolution. By integrating all of the typical standalone devices into a single box and eliminating the dozens of interconnections between them, the Enova DGX and DVX units ensure that installation, management and control is greatly simplified, energy efficiency optimised, and standardisation becomes a technological reality. Additionally, a KNX Communications Gateway in each room allows for NetLinx control, integration and communication with other systems round the facility via the KNX protocol. An additional DGX 16 meets the digital media switching needs of the conference hall, with its 4x4 video wall, and a further three DVX-3156 units provide processing capability elsewhere in the building.

DXLink transmitters and receivers combine to deliver a robust method of signal distribution

As part of this impressive solution, 47 DXLink HDMI receivers and 49 DXLink transmitters combine to provide a robust and reliable method for signal distribution to the Sharp 80” LCD screens and Panasonic video walls located throughout the facility, via the central technology room on the corresponding floor. Rooms can also be linked together for ultimate flexibility. Fingertip control of installed technology is delivered via a mobile 80” LCD touch screen monitor or a PC in each room which are control-enabled thanks to NXV-300 Modero Virtual Touch Panel units, of which there are 52 in the whole facility. This small, rack-mounted device allows users to access the system via a Virtual Network Connection, and navigate it simply and easily.

SmartScale technology outputs video that is scaled for each connected display

In this state-of-the-art environment, an unprecedented level of building management capability is afforded by AMX’s Resource Management Suite (RMS) which provides IT-like remote monitoring over all Sparkassenakadamie’s AV assets and building systems. Real-time monitoring and problem notifications allow resources and equipment to be maintained proactively, with automatic and routine checks being made to the system’s status. The facilities team are able to remotely monitor and diagnose equipment problems, improve uptime and reduce energy usage and carbon footprint; all from a single interface or web browser, no matter where they are in the building. This innovative system also allows truly intelligent building automation to be realised. Using occupancy sensors, for example, the AMX system is able to detect when a room is unoccupied and automatically power-down equipment accordingly, saving both energy and resources.
