Portland Community College recieved 76 backpacks upcycled from 10-12 banners. Production took a full day to trace, deconstruct and mark. With the labor of 2 people. The contract sewer easily understood how to sew the backpack based on my design and markings.

For Looptworks, I organize sheets for products and the technical pattern pieces. Details of these sheets include: piece labels, measurments, fabric cutting, notches, drill holes and punch holes. This sheet is important for proper production guidance.

Looptworks has had a great history with partnering with the Portland Blazers. However within my time at Looptworks the NBA extended their partnership by donating additional jerseys from all of the national teams. For the production we deconstruct all the jerseys and cut patterns precisely. The products created from the jerseys are Packable Backpacks, Hip Packs, Pillows, Laptop Holders and Jackets. Deconstruction and cutting is the hardest part for it is very meticulous.

The tie order was upcycled from Blazer’s NBA Jerseys. The Production Lead created he pattern and I did the sewing. There was a total of 150 ties created. 75 White Ties and 75 Red ties. This was the first tie product of Looptworks.

Delta Airlines sent boxes of old uniforms from all employees due to the upgrade in apparel aesthetics. Through all the boxes I managed to pick: a red dress, button down shirt and outdoor jackets. I managed to design a zip tie shoe bag with a tri-panel design. The cool thing about the tri-panel design is that it goes along with the Delta brand aesthetic.

Z(est.) targets women around the ages of 40-50 years old; a group that is often neglected by marketers. These women likely have demanding lives with full time careers, possibly taking care of children, or trying to reclaim their independence. Our brand desires to add trendy flare to these women’s lives with affordable, flattering garments that can fit into every aspect of their unique and busy lifestyles.

Matte Satin Wine (silk) 97% Cotton 3% Spandex

Blueberry Stretch Super Matte Jersey 100% Polyester

The Assortment and Range Plan was executed on Microsoft Excel.

For Product Development our team had to place each garment into the system, The steps include basicmaster data, sizing, fabric, colors, style details, pattern pieces and shipping.

In the beginning of my internship I created a presentation of trend boards for the Fall/ Winter season of 2018. The boards include: the theme, color, silhoette, print, childrenswear, menswear, and accesories. The boards below are examples.

As part of the design assistant position i got a whiff of the technical design process. The patternmaking process was made documented with precise instructions so the seamstresses could follow them on point. To help along with the seamstress I joined the job of fitting and measuring pattern pieces on fabric to reduce fabric waste. A few days I would assist with the cool quality control team. The QC team would check for glitches on the batik fabric and clip random strings of the finish product

The people in Ghana compared in America take their time and each moment. They smile incredibly more. Their lifestyle is more still traditional in terms of religion is the center of their life. I joined the amazing restaurant owner, Ellie to her church with her son. The church experience reminded me of my baptist church at home but in a different language. The food in Ghana was pretty consistent. The meals conists of: rice, chicken, fish, avacados, fufu, spicy sauce, potatoes, plaintains, beans and cabbage, The meals are all carbohydrate base however it burns off while walking in 85 degree weather. The American thing i craved most was sugar because Ghana has low sugar in their diets. For history I visited the Cape Coast Slave castle. That experience was a view that connected deep within the bleak beginnings of my African American culture. The spontaneous things I did in Ghana was to go surfing. Its awesome to think that my first time going surfing was in Africa. Usually thesurfing culture is portrayed on the Pacific coast.

In the process of making this collection I made use of several design steps. Patternmaking, tailoring, draping, sewing, serging and fabric dyeing.

Blue Jeans originated from a skinny leg pants pattern that I altered to make flare. In addition I cut and altered the black legs to create a ruffled look. The fabric is an original fashion fabric.

For this design project I draped a ruffled top out of thrifted menswear shirts. For upcycling the hardest part is usually getting enough fabric for certain pattern pieces. In this project I experiemneted with smaller pattern pieces and a monochromatic color scheme. For finishes I lined the ruffles and the bodice with accent blue shirt fabric.

Blue Jeans originated from a pair of Lee jeans at Salvation Army.
