Module Brief Title: Product, Range & Distribution

STUDIO BRIEF 1: Project Proposal Project Rationale Project Rationale. (what do you intend to do and why?) I intent to create a series of three book covers for 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter. There aren’t many existing covers on Beatrix Potter’s books but with Penguin random house set to release a series of redesigns in July this seemed like appropriate timing. These will hopefully be a unique take on the classic by incorporating a traditional design with a modern twist.

THEMES / SUBJECTS What Themes/Subjects will form the content of your work for this module? This should include Theoretical and non- creative based content and concerns. This section should identify your consideration of the social, cultural, ethical and creative concerns of contemporary practice GENERAL THEMES: Publishing and book design Cabinets of curiosity- famous collectors SPECIFIC SUBJECTS: Beatrix Potter The tale of Peter Rabbit The tale of Jemima Puddle duck The tale of Squirrel Nutkin

SPECIFIC DISCIPLINARY AREA: I have chosen publishing and book design as my area of disciplinary since this seems very fitting for this project.

ILLUSTRATORS / DESIGNERS / STUDIOS: *Aiko Fukakwa *Abigail Halpin * Uguisu *Serene Ng * Yumiko Higuchi *Jillian Tamaki

CREATIVE SKILLS What practical skills do you intend to further develop and apply during your project. What do you intend to use the skills for. Consider extending the use of skills that you already have in order to deliver work of a higher standard as well as identifying new skills that you will need to develop.

As part of practical skills I would like to improve on my sewing techniques. I decided since summer that I should try to develop my embroidery skills as I really enjoyed this and would like to expand from this. I have also noticed that there’ aren’t many embroidered book covers so thought this would be a unique take. Since my covers will be stitched I would like to improve on my editing skills so I will have to carefully edit them in Photoshop and take good scans when uploading. KEY TEXTS. List a selected number of books, articles and texts that are central to your proposed area of practice. These should include a combination of design and non-practice based books, theoretical texts as well as visual publications. You should include a list of relevant websites
