Amy Choi OUIL503 Responsive: Collaborative Individual contribution- YCN Fever Tree Brief + Initial Research Brief: ~ Create beautifully designed limited edition bottles to engage customers and raise money for Malaria No More UK
For initial research we broke down the brief and produce a mind map individually on potential ideas and information regarding the brand. We decided that the best way to answer this brief was to gather a solid concept first before going into the development stages. The brief stated that they wanted a series of four designs inspired by four countries in one of the five continents they had provided us in the project pack. We struggled picking others countries within the same continent without a purpose. So we researched other ingredients in the drink and found that they were sourced in other parts of the same region enabled us to relate these back into the series.
When I began researching the origins of the company and the history behind Fever tree, the importance of sourcing the ingredients and the far remote places they have travelled to and explored was made very significant and I thought that the historical aspects and the journey they have taken made it quite traditional and sophisticated, very fitting for the project. After this me and Gracie started producing Pinterest boards on each of the countries to gather a sense of there culture and aesthetic both adding contributions along the way. To improve my understanding further I researched information on the scenery for each of the countries.
Amy Choi OUIL503 Responsive: Collaborative Individual contribution- YCN Fever Tree Market Research + Contextual reference Before creating roughs I decided to do some market research since I’d never illustrated packaging I thought it would be useful to look at current designs to familiarise myself with creative layouts on bottles. I had concerns about making mature and sophisticated imagery since I usually tend to go down a childish route. Still wanting to keep to the playfulness I was inspired by Chinoserie wallpaper it was still sophisticated but had that element of playful illustration. All of this research gave me perspective on how to approach this brief.
Amy Choi OUIL503 Responsive: Collaborative Individual contribution- YCN Fever Tree Development Illustrating the designs for the bottle was my responsibility. I started off experimenting with watercolours and gouache but this became difficult to work with. I had rediscovered acrylics and found success with this. We became unsure on the arrangement of the illustrations but later found out that we should adhere to the wrap of the bottle. As this was clarified I sketched out roughs of designs for the series.
