Happy New Year!
I
HOG closes 2012 with great events for charity, gears up for 2013 with chili cookoff in Abilene
would like to begin by wishing everyone, from our seasoned members to those who are just joining us, a very Happy New Year. 2012 looks to be another fun and exciting year for the Dallas Texas Chapter with some new activities in the planning stages along with some of the traditional favorites to keep everyone busy. The judges will be crowning our Chapter Chili Cook Off winner on Saturday, January 7th, and the winner will be representing us in the Regional HOG Chili Cook Off in Abilene, Texas, in February. On Saturday, January 21st, we will be holding our annual Party After. The Chapter has arranged for Bakers Ribs to cater this great event. This is where all those ride tickets that were collected throughout the year come into play. We will use those tickets in the door prize drawings. So the more rides you came on the better chance you have in the drawing. So check out the flier here in this newsletter and please make plans to join us at a fun filled event just for you. Add these two events with all the rides that your Road Captains and Officers have planned and we have the beginnings of a busy year ahead of us. But that is what makes our Chapter what it is. Something each week that is fun and engaging for everyone. In closing, I want to also express my gratitude for the generosity of so many of our members this past
year in their help with some of the charitable causes we undertook. I witnessed the volunteer spirit of the many members who worked our MotorCops Toy Run, and those who planned and organized fundraisers throughout the year to support this event. There are also members who, without hesitation, delivered food to the needy, went caroling at the Rowlett Rehabilitation Center, wrapped Christmas presents for others, contributed money or actually went shopping for gifts to help bring Christmas to some families who would be doing without on Christmas Eve. And who could not be grateful to see our own Santa Claus giving his time at the shop on Saturday or walking through the front doors of families in need on Christmas Eve with gifts under his arms. Mr. Pittmon, from one who has been there in that toasty red suit, we all appreciate your giving and dedication to the job! So, I would like to thank everyone for what you do in the service of others and I look forward to riding beside you on the open road in the near future. As always, I look forward to getting to visit with you at our next get together. Till next time remember, It’s not the destination, it’s the journey! Papa Duck

ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTATION — AWESOME DOOR PRIZES
It’s THE party of the year; miss it and be square. by Tom Steger
$25,000
10th Annual Motorcops for Kids Toy Run was hug success, thanks for DHOG and Dallas H-D
T
his is the amount that was donated to the Shrine Children’s Hospital as a result of the 10th Annual Motorcops for Kids Toy Run. We have hit the goal of $250,000.00 in order to have a plaque placed on the wall at the hospital. I have great hopes that this is just the first of many plaques that our chapter is awarded in the future. Thank you to everyone who participated that day and all throughout the year to make Motorcops for Kids the success it is. I am writing this with Christmas looming on the horizon and I want to say, we have some of the most generous people amongst our group that can be found anywhere. Time has been given to help wrap gifts, bag and distribute food, adopt children from needy families and entertain those that are too old to do much more than wait for us to appear each year. Each act alone is a gift of love and generosity from which we all have benefited. The recipients are a varied scope of our shop’s neighborhood and they each see Dallas Harley Davidson and the Dallas HOG Chapter as an open door to community awareness and support. I thank all of you for the time, money and absolute care you have given to those less fortunate. This year’s Ladies of Harley caroling had a great turnout. We revisited our friends at the Rowlett Rehab and Nursing Center. We have become a favorite of these dear people and the excitement could be seen on their
faces as they entered the large dining hall. Sadly, some of the familiar faces were no longer there as they had passed on during the year. I hope we made their time with us as meaningful as it was to us. Julie found herself a friend this year and hopes to return to write down stories she hears from Tech Sgt. Philip Allen. He is a WWII Air Force Veteran and is 90 years old. Many of us had the opportunity to spend a few minutes listening to his time in the military before he joined us in the caroling. Singing, smiles and a few tears made for a memorable afternoon for all. No Julie, you cannot have the Sergeant as your Christmas present. We have a lot on the calendar for 2012. The Chili Cook-off is Saturday, January 7th. Get your teams and recipes assembled and let’s see who wins to compete in Abilene this year. We want to be the host team in 2013 and that means we have to win the Judges’ decision out west in February. Last year’s quilt was absolutely the best I’ve seen and will be hard to surpass, but I bet they do. Our annual Party After is January 21. Check the flyer for details and come to see who has won the awards for 2011. I am looking forward to a bright and prosperous new year and want to see all of you on the road and at the Dallas Harley Davidson Shop. Let’s Ride, Tom Steger
