Written Explanation: Logo: For my logo and tagline I wanted to focus on the holiday tagline, but still stay true to the ModCloth image. The logo itself I kept the same font, but changed the normal coloring to a candy cane striped red and white, which I think adds a nice holiday touch for the season. For the tagline I chose, “Tis the season to be trendy”. I designed it to look like it’s written on a scroll, to replicate Santa’s naughty and nice list going along with the holiday theme. I repeated the logo across the top of the scroll so it’s still recognizably a ModCloth tagline, since this is only for the holiday season obviously. I didn’t draw these, but the tagline campaign could include a variety of these taglines like, “Tis the season to be quirky”, “Tis the season to imagine” and so on and so forth. POP Items: For my two POP items I chose, I wanted to pick two things that weren’t things someone would necessarily go to the store looking for and that were also inexpensive. ModCloth has a wide variety of quirky items like these throughout their website, so I decided to pick from what they already had instead of designing my own products. I chose one holiday item, the Festive Forestry Jar, and one quirky item, the French Cat Pins. I wanted to choose only one holiday themed item because a majority of ModCloth’s items aren’t holiday, and they don’t focus particularly on holiday items during the season. Bust Form for Jewelry Department: The bust form I designed I wanted to keep it simple, and also make it so that it could be used throughout the year in the store. I chose the dress form with the wire bottom to it because I thought it had a very classic and vintage look to it, and if need be would be great for displaying the many cute dresses ModCloth has to offer. I thought about the advantages of a mannequin in this situation since it could display so much more jewelry, but I think the look of this bust form flows better with the image of the brand and the piece alone is somewhat like an art piece in the middle of the store. For the fabric that will upholster the bust form I chose a pattern that had a neutral background with an assortment of colored classic looking vintage bikes on it. The color scheme has a couple touches of holiday colors in the fabric, and it’s also a pattern that can be used year round throughout the store. There are various other products with the same design of bike on them, so it definitely goes with the aesthetic. To make it a bit more festive, I tied a big red bow around the bust form’s waist to add a little something more to it and make it look like a present. For the jewelry I wanted to go very simple with just a big black lace statement necklace that I think standing alone will draw a lot of attention. For the base of the bust form I decided to use an ornate wood stand to go along with the proscenium around the window in the front.

Fixture: Although ModCloth currently is only an online store and doesn’t have a brick and mortar location, I thought it would be fun and interesting to design a fixture and window as if they did. For my fixture I designed I wanted to make it outdoorsy, yet chic like a lot of the lifestyle blog

pictures simulate on their website. Off center I placed a giant wood tree trunk from floor to ceiling that is lined with cut branches all up and down it. At the top of the tree trunk I placed a candy cane striped soda straw wreath. I though this wreath was fun and DIY looking, and looks like a project that would be posted on the website. The branches will display anything that can hang from mugs, to purses, to necklaces. The rest of the fixture I wanted to offset the natural assorted feel of the tree trunk with a more geometric wooden box arrangement on either side. I made the boxes all different shapes and sizes and arranged them in a random order to made the fixture look more creative and quirky like the ModCloth style. I will wrap a couple of select boxes in the fixture like a present to make the fixture appear more holiday to go with the rest of my designs. The rest of the fixture boxes are either lined with a variety of different fabrics, or a couple are just kept wood like they already are. The fabrics I chose to line the boxes are all a variety of colors and patterns. I thought this eclectic look added an extra creative touch and would help to draw the eye in and keep the eye moving around the fixture so that all the merchandise high and low is seen. By keeping a few of the boxes plain wood I think it provides some needed blank space and connects it with the tree branch in the center. For the items I’m displaying in this fixture I chose all items that are in their “Great Gift Ideas under $50 and $20 tabs”. They have a lot of great affordable gift ideas out right now for the holidays and they’re pushing that really hard on their website right now, so I figured doing the same in the store would make it more cohesive. Mechanical Window Design: For my window design I will start with the proscenium I chose for the outside of the window. I chose a proscenium that is an ornate black design inspired by a black frame. I thought the frame had a great vintage feel to it, but I simplified it making it a bit more modern. I felt like it had a unique touch to it just like ModCloth’s image they’ve produce has. As for the window design itself I started with a vinyl of a vintage TV to go on the window and mask the window. I thought this was a great attention getting piece and went along with my classic holiday window design story very well. There is an element of fantasy to my window, since the wrapped wall, snow on the floor, and strapless dress all together don’t make much sense in our reality. The TV helps tell this story by making it seem like a TV show where it’s an alternate reality Christmas special where anything is possible. The back wall I wrapped in brown craft paper and then I strung the big vintage colored Christmas lights around it to simulate the wrapping paper design and add some color. Then put a giant red bow on it to make it look wrapped like a present. As for the mechanical aspect of my window I chose to have a simple Christmas tree that spins around on its base. I want a simple classic gold star on top that looks good from all angles. The tree will be decorated with various smaller items from ModCloth from mugs, to salt and pepper shakers, to shoes, to small purses, to books, and anything that can be secured safely to the tree in an aesthetically pleasing way. The tree will be filled with these items instead of ornaments and as the tree turns different items will be showcased in the window. I chose to have a semi abstract white mannequin for this window display to go along with the fantasy story of the questionable reality and the white to represent the winter and snow. She’s wearing a sleek, red, holiday strapless dress that contrasts well with the green tree as well as draws in attention to her from the spinning tree. She has on a gold and crystal statement necklace to cover her bare neck, a gold and black silhouette bracelet and an Alice in wonderland ring. I thought the ring and bracelet were very cute and lightly foreshadowed the fantasy world transformation this window has gone through. The shoes she is wearing are black high heels that have cat faces on them. I thought they were very unique and cute but still fancy enough to be worn with a nice red dress out for the night. I had the

mannequin sit on a present to create some different levels in the window. The present is wrapped in a green wrapping paper with a white reindeer design on it. I thought this design made the dress stand out well and also the reindeer goes with the many animals found on different products and clothes throughout ModCloth. The candy cane striped ribbon around the present helps it to stand out from the dress, yet still look festive. The floor is covered in snow to create this element of wonder and fantasy for the story of the window. Lastly the vinyl on the window of the falling snow makes it look like the snow is fresh. Also the holiday ModCloth logo I designed will be on the window as a vinyl in the bottom right corner to show who the window display is for.
