“Cullinans consulted all those who would be using the space - teachers, children and parents and came up with a simple and stunning design...the process was managed perfectly...by the end of the project they became part of the school community.” Kate Atkins, Head of School, Rosendale Primary School, Lambeth, London

WORKING WITH YOU, THE USERS & THE WIDER PUBLIC

DESIGNING WITH WHAT’S THERE
“The school environment has been changed immeasurably and both students and staff are now reaping the benefits of our renewed and modernised surroundings.” Peter Mellon, Business Manager, Forest Gate Community School, Newham, London

“There is a tangible feeling of joy the second you walk through the door and the way that the building draws you in and towards the beautiful kitchen space - the heart of all our Maggie’s centres - is extraordinary. The spaces are oases of calm. The sheltered garden merges with the inside rooms and is already well used and much loved.” Laura Lee, Chief Executive, Maggie’s

CREATING GREAT PUBLIC PLACES
Above: Maggie’s in Newcastle is designed to be a place of calm and care for people with cancer and their families, friends and carers. Opposite: Our design for the Singapore Management University supports the rare use of non-air-conditioned outside spaces for social activities by including breezeways and planted courtyards into the masterplan.

“Multi-facetted and multi-functional, the John Hope Gateway is a clever response to its pivotal site in the Royal Botanic Garden. By careful attention to site, topography and materials Cullinans has created a building that will adorn the city and uplift the spirit of its citizens.” Mark Swenarton, Architecture Today, March 2011

ENJOYING THE WAY OUR BUILDINGS ARE DESIGNED TO BE BUILT
Above: Low-carbon, engineered timber was used at the Edinburgh Botanic Garden’s John Hope Gateway. The roof is supported on a diagonal glulam timber structure and pencil-thin steel columns. Opposite: The Stirling Prize shortlisted Downland Gridshell at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum was the world’s first permanent gridshell building.

“Not every project comes in on time and within budget. Few do so with excellent working relationships. What makes the Fitzwilliam Library and IT building truly exceptional is that not only is the foregoing true of it, but its design and its build quality are of the very highest” Christopher Pratt, former Bursar, Fitzwilliam College

MAXIMISING THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
“The Stonebridge Hillside Hub is visually very attractive and works very well from the users’ points of view. It is very popular with the local community and fulfils the objective of providing a vibrant heart at the centre of the regenerated estate. Hyde Housing Association regards the scheme as one of its most successful.” Nigel Swanton, Project Director, Hyde Housing
Above: The Stonebridge Hillside Hub: community centre, mixed-tenure apartments, health centre and local store, played a pivotal role in the regeneration of the local area and was given a Special Civic Trust Award for Community Impact and Engagement. Opposite: The new BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Herbarium wing at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew utilises bore holes for ground source cooling.
