Book Promotion Tip #1 Goodreads http://Goodreads.com Goodreads is the largest website for readers and for book recommendations. According to their About Us page: “We have more than 10,000,000 members who have added more than 360,000,000 books to their shelves.” You want to be on Goodreads because that is where many of your readers are hanging out. Join as a User You can use your real name, or create a pen name if you want your author profile to be separate. Goodreads uses Twitter and Facebook to log you in if you let them. So if you are using a different name, keep that in mind. Once you have your user account, fill out your info and rate/like some books. You can target your ads, so if you know your target market, you can tap into them very easily with this program. Book Promotion Tip #2 Amazon Community Tools Community Tools can help increase the visibility of your book on Amazon. Make sure to follow Amazon’s TOS, as they don’t allow excessive selfpromotion and have some rules about what links are and aren’t allowed. You can find that on your Amazon buyer account page. For maximum effectiveness, your customer profile name should match your author name. On your customer profile page, you can include your website, a photo, and a bio. When anyone clicks on your hyper-linked customer profile, they will be taking to your customer profile page. Every time you complete an action on Amazon from your customer profile, you will have a link back to your customer profile page.

Book Reviews Writing reviews of books similar to your book is a great way to increase your visibility. When writing book reviews, make sure to follow Amazon's TOS. Amazon does not allow you to have a URL or hyperlink in your book reviews to your book. You can even take this a step further, and contact authors, particularly selfpublished ones and let them know that you've left a review and that you also written a related book. Listmanias Listmanias are a great way to increase the visibility of your book. When you do a search for a product on Amazon, you'll often see the Listmanias on the left side of the search results. Any Listmanias you create can also be found on your customer profile page. Listmanias are what they sound like, they are a list that an Amazon customer has put together. For example someone might put together a list of the best cookbooks of the last 10 years. When creating a list mania to help promote your book, you should include very popular books in your niche. Chances are, people interested in your niche have heard of those books and may have even read them, and if your book is listed with those books they may be interested in checking out your book as well. In your introduction to your Listmanias, you can mention that you are the author of a related book and list the title. You can also list your own book in the Listmania. Just make sure you provide value in the list mania and list a variety of helpful books and content. You can include a sentence or so detailing each choice.

What's great about these guides from an author point of view as they allow you to show your expertise. If you have a book about a non-fiction topic like healthy pregnancy tips, you can create a So You'd Like To…guide about healthy eating during pregnancy. Book Promotion Tip #3-Virtual Book Tours Another great way to promote your book is to go on a virtual book tour. Basically, you contact blogs in your niche or blogs that showcase fiction books and if you are fiction writer, and see if you can arrange to appear on their blog. Your appearance can take a variety of forms. For example, your blog host can interview you, give away your book, or do a book review. You can treat each visit as an event. To get started, you need to find and contact targeted blogs in your niche. It's a good idea to create a fact sheet about your book along with the pitch or compelling reason why their blog readers would be interested in you and your book. Book Promotion Tip #4- Internet Radio and Podcasts Being interviewed on podcasts and internet radio shows is a great way to publicize your books to a dedicated listener base. It’s almost like the equivalent of getting someone to mail out your product that already has a fan base. That’s what you want! Podcasts and internet radio are deliberate – meaning that people actually take the time to listen to these either live or recordings. People listen to them on their free time, during their commute to work, and even at the gym. It is your job, as the expert in your niche, to compel the listeners to go and take action to whatever it is you want them to do. There are a lot of shows out there, and many of them constantly need new content. Similar to contacting blogs, you can contact them with your fact sheet and your pitch, and book yourself on these shows. You can even host your own show or podcast!
