There are many different types of moving image productions. Different productions have different features and it is important to understand what makes then slightly different from each other., for instance film is approached differently to television in terms of its budget and visuals. You will explore the construction of different types of moving image productions focusing on camera work, mise en scène, as the key to the ‘language’ of visual communication, plus sound and editing which are all necessary components of a finished moving image product. This will help you to prepare for making your own video. THE ASSIGNMENT In this assignment you will be taking on the role of a media journalist writing a digital article informing the readers of Video Maker of the key features of film and video and their technical construction. You will need to investigate what professionals need to consider when they make film and television shows. You will need to focus on specific techniques and technical elements to help you understand how they are made, why they are made and how effective they are. To make sure that you cover everything their readers need to know, use at least two examples of moving image to discuss and compare. You will need to choose one film and one television show of your choice. Note if you want a Distinction grade then you will need to write about three examples of moving image. You will need to address the points on the task list to make sure you cover all of the information that you need for the article as more depth is needed for higher grades.

The format The genre and sub-genres if relevant. How do you recognise this? What is the purpose of the production and the platforms it is viewed on? Who is the target audience? Why? How are characters represented in the show? Provide examples.
Narrative Structure (2A.M1, D1) - What narrative structure do they use in your productions? e.g linear or closed ending. Why do you think this? Themes (2A.D1) - Themes e.g man vs nature. What themes do they cover as part of the ‘message’ of the production. Using clips and still pictures you need to investigate how effective the following are in your film and TV show: Camera work (2B.P2, M2, D2) You will want to analyse: - Shots, Movements, Angles, Use of colour, Focus and how they work together. Mise-en-Scene (2B.M2, D2) You will want to analyse: - Setting, Props, Costume, Make-up, Positioning, Lighting. - How does the mise-en-scene work with the camera work? Sound and Editing (2B.D2) You will need to analyse sound, visual transitions and rhythm in-between scenes and how they work with the camera work and mis-en-scene. How do the editing and sound enhance the production? Conclusion: - Summarise how the key elements you have explored make a successful film or TV show EVIDENCE REQUIRED FOR ASSESSMENT An electronic report that shows evidence of your research into examples of film and videos that tells the readers of Video Maker about their key features and technical elements. This should include relevant examples of footage from the production and stills.
