Interactive Media - What’s That?
The Definition
Interactive media is the integration of digital media including combinations of electronic text, graphics, moving images, and sound, into a structured digital computerised environment that allows people to interact and connect with the data.
Interactivity
The term Interactive Media highlights that interactivity is a key characteristic. *Media that responds to user activity where a user operates a device or software to affect events on the screen*
Platforms Interactive media can include a variety of platforms such as Interactive blogs/ social media, interactive digital television, hand held devices and information kiosks
Software There are also many different types of software that can be used to produce interactive media such as high end software such as Flash to online software such as Tumblr.
Assets These will contain different assets, such as sound, video, text, graphics and animation
Target Audience
When designing Interactive media you will need to consider: • Age • Gender • Race • Location • Income bracket/status This will make your assets and designs more appealing to who is going to be using them and more successful.
Limitations As with any product there are always limitations, for instance Wi-Fi/3G/4G download speed, technical requirements e.g. hardware (computer) Plug ins (Quick Time or Java) which customise how effectively your software works. Or even the content which can affect how interactive your product is.
