AIM/PURPOSE Digital photography has revolutionised the way that we capture images. Digital cameras are all around us: in phones, tablets and laptops as well as the various point and shoot and SLR models. Even though the ‘post production’ of photography now forms a major part of the final product, the skill of capturing creative images is still the basis of great photography. The focus of this assignment will be on technical skill, knowing how the camera works, and understanding the different ways in which photography communicates its message. The creative ‘language’ of photography (framing, use of colour, light, angle) is universal and more immediate than the written word and you will develop photographic ideas that will maximise this long-standing mode of media communication. THE ASSIGNMENT You will take on the role of an photography apprentice who needs to evidence knowledge of cameras and how to produce effective photographs for the media industry in the form of a report to their manager. Before you start on your own photographic brief you need to understand how images are captured in digital cameras, investigate where, how and why digital photographs are produced. In order to develop your own understanding and skills in digital photography you will undertake test shoots in different locations and contexts to prepare you for your photo game concept brief. You assingment will present your findings to prove you are ready to take on the photo shoot independently in the next project.
