You will develop your verbal, written and visual communication skills to enable you to understand and develop a pitch for your own ideas, as well as communicating effectively in order to complete work in teams. You will have to pass on ideas and information to others and interpret a brief correctly in preparation for the next phase in the process: production. As part of this you will develop the organisational skills required for the planning and execution of a production. You will be engaged with devising and planning your trailer, taking into consideration the available resources, identifying any safety issues when shooting, with consideration of risk assessment prior to any production work being completed. THE ASSIGNMENT In this assignment you will be taking on the role of a video production team producing a pre-production planning portfolio detailing your trailer idea and approach to making your video to the following brief: ‘To create a live-action game trailer promoting a 2D game, this needs to be either Space Invaders, Pac Man or Break Out. This will be shown as a theatre screening, so needs to be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds long.’ As a team you will pitch your idea using your planning portfolio to evidence your pre-production planning to your peers. This will be recorded as evidence.

It will outline realistic and creative plans, detailing your ideas for the game trailer that you will be making and practical strategies for filming and editing. TASKS Your portfolio will need to include and cover the following things: A.1, A.2, A.3 - DEVISING IDEAS (Unit 02 - 2.AP,M,D & 2.BP,M,D & 2.CPM,D) C.1 (Unit 03 - 2.CP,M,D) - The brief itself from the assignment - Target audience fo the trailer, the purpose of the trailer and the platform it will be shown on e.g You Tube - Ideas – Evidence of how the group developed 2 video ideas. You need to develop 2 different ideas and choose which is the best. You must present draft materials such as mood boards, storyboards, sketching, audio-visual and mind maps to a focus group and get feedback on your ideas. In your group you should have a meeting to discuss the ideas. You should agree to reject some of the ideas. Keep minutes of the meeting to show why some ideas were rejected and to show whether any changes or revisions were made to the remaining ideas. Your group should then decide on the final idea and you should write a report outlining why this idea was selected. You must identify how the idea will meet the brief. You must comment on planning considerations. Evidence: Planning portfolio covering tasks listed above B.1, B.2, B.3 - IDEA PITCH (Unit 02 - 2.AP,M,D,2.BP,2BM,D,2.CP,M, D) - You will need to use the planning portfolio to help pitch your idea as a group directly to the class peers. -Your presentation needs to cover every task from your planning portfolio. - You will all need to use the group planning documents to pitch your idea as a group directly to the class. It is recommended that you create a separate presentation for this. - You will all need to sell your idea as the best trailer for your game. - You will all need to show that you are knowledgeable about your trailer and how it will sell your game. - You need to break down the timeframe considerations (a production schedule) and the level of organisation required (who will do what). Your communicaton and confidence skills will be assessed as well as the content of the presentation. Evidence: Your presentation will be recorded as evidence and you will need to hand in your group presentation slides HINT Despite this being a group project you will be marked individually. Your contribution, effort and the work produced will be marked as well as how you have worked with others in your team, this is for both the planning portfolio and the pitch. Your attitude and work ethic are as important as the work you contribute to. EVIDENCE REQUIRED FOR ASSESSMENT Planning Portfolio: Appropriate A4 physical folder containing all of the task documents listed above. You will need to make sure you have printed out all electronic documents, so that everything is included. Or An electronic document such as Word or Powerpoint with all tasks in, again anything on paper should be photographed or scanned in. You also need to include your video team contribution form detailing all of the tasks recording each persons work and contribution.
