AIM/PURPOSE The aim of this assignment is to produce your live action video trailer that you planned and developed in the previous assignment. This will put into practice the pre-production planning you completed to make a final video trailer. You will practically implement filming and editing skills, exploring technical and artistic skills throughout the production and post-production process. THE ASSIGNMENT In this assignment you will take on the role of the the film production crew and an editor. You will be working in your groups to film your live action video trailer, then taking the footage to edit yourself to complete the final cut. Your brief is: ‘To create a live-action game trailer promoting a 2D game, this needs to be either Space Invaders, Pac Man or Break Out. This will be shown as a theatre screening, so needs to be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds long.’ Each edited version of the trailer will use the same footage from the group, but may look different from one edit to another depending on the individual editing techniques used. You need to think of how you will sell your game through the trailer. You will need to document your processes at each stage to demonstrate the creative and technical decisions you make as a group, then by yourself to create the final trailer and what you have learned along the way.
Hopwood Hall College BTEC Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production (Games) Arts & Performing Arts Tasks Production Process (C.2,2C,P3,M3,D3) Filming of Video - Group Section You will need to use the planning folders that you completed to help you film your trailer effectively, use your storyboards, shots list etc to guide you. You need to show creative and interesting use of camerawork and mise-en-scene to sell your game. Make sure that you film as much as possible and check your shots so that you have good footage to work with.You will want to do the same for sound recording if you are using the sound studio, or audio when filming. You will need to film your footage as soon as possible! You can use session time but will need to be prepared to film outside of college hours too. Make sure you fill out equipment request forms for what equipment you need and when with as much notice as possible. When filming you will need to fill out the following hand-outs as a group: -
Filming contribution sheet Log sheet Filming evaluation Explaining any re-filming and pick-ups that may be needed
Post Production Process - Individual Section (C.3,2C,P4,M4,D4) When editing your video you need to consider the rough order of the shots. Put them in order first, then cut your footage down to the essential footage, think about the transitions between shots and how you will add text and your logos in. You will also need to sync your sound with the visuals. How will you export your video and view it e.g You Tube or high qualiity video file. Evaluation - Individual Section (C.4,2C,P5,M5,D5) You will need to complete a technical report of all the editing decisions made and why to complete the trailer and a final evaluation reflecting on your production work and filming. You will need to reflect on how you have answered the brief and the quality of your work. HINT Despite part of this being a group project you will be marked individually. Your contribution, effort and the work produced will be marked as well as how you have worked with others in your team for the filming. Your attitude and work ethic are as important as the work you contribute to. Explain strengths of own complete, digital moving image production in relation to the original brief and purpose.
