Set-ups for Listening to Sound

 This

is single-channel audio.  Typically there is only one microphone, one loudspeaker, or in the case of headphones, channels are fed from the same source  In the case of multiple microphones the paths are mixed into a single source  Mono sound is good for dialogue.

 Stereo

sound is created by two independent audio channels or speakers and provides a sense of direction, because sounds can be heard left and right of you  Stereo sound is like the way we hear things naturally with our ears.  Stereo sound is good for sound effects as it provides a basic idea of where the sound is coming from.

ď‚ž Multichannel

sound is created by at least four and up to seven independent audio channels or speakers placed in front of and behind the listener that surrounds the listener in sound. ď‚ž Surround sound in a game could be used for cut scenes. This could make cut scenes more immersive like film as its pure, clean audio being played like at the cinema.

 

Mono sound uses only a single channel while stereo sound uses two channels or more

Stereo sound gives you a more natural listening experience compared to mono Stereo is essential for broadcasting and listening to music since Mono provides inadequate sound quality Mono is used widely in talk radio and mobile communications since stereo doesn’t really provide any practical advantages in these situations

Recording in mono is less complicated compared to recording in stereo Most hand-held voice recorders can only record in mono, but you can convert to stereo within most software (or the other way around!)
