Hopwood Hall College Extended Diploma Creative Media Production (Games) - Year 1 Arts & Performing Arts AIM/PURPOSE Video in interactive media is everywhere. The implication for interactive media producers is that their work converges with that of traditional film and video producers, but with an added requirement to implement this through current interactive technologies across all creative media sectors such as gaming and virtual reality. The aim of this unit is to introduce you to how to plan, film and edit video in preparation for use within an interactive media product and to use the right video technology. THE ASSIGNMENT You will be taking on the role of a video production team tasked with creating a live action instructional tutorial prototype video to help gamers play the game. You can choose to re-create a tutorial for any game that has already been released, this must be original and unique from the original tutorial. You may want to consider exploring virtual reality and focusing on specific skills to help the player, such as weapon handling, or communicating with characters within the game. You need to engage and motivate the player to complete the tutorial as you see best via goals and rewards, comedy etc. Your brief is as follows: The tutorial video needs to contain live action video sequences and visual graphics. These will form part of the games user interface (UI) and how the user interacts with the clips. The tutorial must have sound to accompany the visuals, whether that is music, instructional dialogue or sound effects. The tutorial needs be at least 3 minutes long and will be streamed online for players to watch.

You will need to clearly identify who has completed and contributed towards the portfolio for assessment purposes. You will need to include clear, neat and detailed research and creative development covering the following areas: - Consideration of the brief - initial ideas/brainstorming - Market research into your game’s tutorial and other similar tutorial levels - Audience your tutorial is marketed at. - Technical considerations e.g file format, file size, streaming method for final product - Legal and ethical issues - Copyright, model releases, ethical issues e.g decency and appropriateness, representation eg race, gender, religion, sexuality - Mood board of visual ideas for your video - Sketches/Storyboards step by step visuals of tutorial - Scripts (if needed for dialogue or narration) - Sound plan, what do you need to source/record - Shot, angle and movement list of camera work - Health and safety/risk assessment - Location and suitability of locations and if planning permission is needed. - Equipment needs for visuals and sound, booking and availability - Props and costumes required - Budget needs (travel, props, costumes) - Make-up (if needed) - Actors (group members, external actors) and production roles Project management as a group (Unit 1, P3, M3, D3) - Scheduling of meetings, shared cloud storage, what has been completed in class, efficient time management, - How you plan to meet deadlines e.g production milestones for filming, editing etc that you need to meet to complete production. Individually document the shoot process via log sheets, considering shot quality shot composition, re-shoots that may be needed. Individually source/create other video assets you will need for editing e.g any game footage, photo stills, graphics/ UI etc that will go with your video footage. Post Production (P4, M4, D4) Individually edit and export your video for streaming online: Asset/ File management - How have you imported and organised your video files during filming and editing? You will need to develop questionnaires for people to complete, collect the results and examine responses, then evaluate your animation yourself. You will need to comment on peoples’ responses and if necessary respond to any critical feedback in your own evaluation.
