Issue Date: Week Commencing 12/10/15 Full assignment due end of session day: Monday 06/11/15 This assignment covers Grading Criteria from the following unit: Unit 62 - Digital Video Production for Interactive Media Learning Outcome 1 - Understand Principles of Digital Video Technology in Interactive Media AIM/PURPOSE The aim of this unit is to introduce you to the production and use of digital video material as part of interactive and online media. You will investigate how video is used in different contexts online and examine the technology used to produce and manipulate digital video sequences. You should understand how video material can be incorporated into interactive online media platforms and the implications of video compression on the quality of the picture and sound, along with the needs of the target audience. You can use this information as inspiration to help you research and plan how you will produce your own interactive video content. THE ASSIGNMENT You will take on the role of a production assistant where you will be researching where live action video is used in the creative media and games industry. What technology is used to facilitate this and what do you need to consider when making online video content? You will discuss the use of at least 2 separate video sequences in interactive media products, for example You Tube game walkthroughs, and why a particular delivery platform might be used as its delivery medium. How is it effective and how does the technology used impact production and the quality of the final video? You will need to present your research as a multimedia report with your findings.

Use examples from task 1 to evaluate how well your they have used video technology. You could refer to your own experience of using video editing software and investigate into the open broadcaster’s methods of production. For example you could explain the importance of: • Filming equipment, video capture and compressions, bit rate, containers and codecs etc • Streaming methods, and data transfer rate that can be impacted by bandwidth/downloads and using mobile devices instead of desktop computers and laptops. How do these technical areas change the quality and appearance of the video recordings during production and do you need to make different decisions when you present video online compared to offline e.g for DVD.
