Harvard Park Day Nursery Feltham June Newsletter 2014. News from the Managers Nicki and Tracey –

Important: If you have received your nursery/reception places and have accepted them please let us know of your leaving date as soon as possible please. We are sad to say another goodbye to a member of staff this month, as Alia will be leaving us on the 11th of June. We wish her all the best for the future. Thank you to all parents who have donated items such as clothes and toys to us we are very grateful. Unfortunately we are still in need of socks/pants/knickers, children’s books, newspapers, old magazines and kitchen roll tubes. If you have any of these lying around the house we would be even more grateful to receive them. The children had an emergency fire alarm on Friday 30 th May in the early hours of the morning. The practices have paid off, the children were very well behaved and listened to their teachers well and we would like to say well done to them and our team for being so professional and getting everyone out safely!

News from Deputy Carol- Please let us know about whether your child is staying with us or

moving on. A reminder that the group nursery photo shot will be on Monday 2nd June. A reminder will be on facebook and in the lobby so please be vigilant. For our Freedom Zone leavers, we will be having a concert however it will only be available to view on DVD as it puts too much pressure on the children when parents and carers come to watch it live. From previous experiences, our 2 year olds are unable to maintain attention for a lengthy period of time so they won’t be involved but will have the opportunity to sing with their friends on another day. More details will follow in next month’s newsletter.

We will be encouraging our ducklings to engage in activities such as painting their hands and feet to explore their sense, looking in mirrors at our facial expressions and features, and through song, looking at our body parts to develop our expressive skills. Well done to all our parents who have sent in pictures for your child’s family trees. They are available for you to look at if you wish to do so. We have begun to look at mini-beasts as the children have noticed them in the garden and around the environment. So this month we shall continue this interest and the topic shall be ‘mini-beasts’. We have been investigating the different types of mini-beasts they are using books, magnifying glasses and magazines to develop our literary knowledge as well as developing our knowledge and understanding of the world. In the next few weeks we will be developing our creative skills and thinking by making junk model mini-beasts, designing our own mini-beast and painting with them too. Well done to all of our parents who have sent in their all about me boxes and family photos. We would like to request that you create and bring in your all about me boxes if you haven’t already done so. If you are unsure of what these are then just ask your keyworker and they will happily remind you of what they are. Alongside this we would like to ask for some family photos as we have them in the home corner and children are wondering where their family pictures are. We will also use them for our family trees in your child’s learning journals.

We would like to begin by apologising to Amber and wishing her a happy birthday for May as we missed her off the May birthdays in the last newsletter. We hope you had a lovely day. This month our topic will be ‘All about me’. We will be talking about what makes us special, how we differ from others and what we do at home with our families and friends! If your child would like to bring in some photos or a souvenir to share with their friends at group time they can do so. Talk about what makes them special as we will be asking them during group times too. We will also beginning our practices for our 2014 Leavers Concert, which will involve all the children leaving to go to school or nursery. It will include songs, dances and storytelling and will be lots of fun for our children to participate in. Please see messages from Carol for more details. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of those parents who have brought in family pictures for their learning journals, it is very much appreciated as it makes the children’s folders look colourful and personal to them. We would also like to make you aware of a sad event that happened here at nursery … Tumbe (the snail) has gone to snail heaven. We have chosen to tell the children that he has decided to go back to Africa to see his family because he was lonely. We have a mixed range of ages in Freedom Zone and thought this would be the best way to approach the matter. His baby Zazu is still with us though.
