PROFILE

I am a recent architecture graduate from Swinburne University seeking part-time employment within the architecture and design sector. I have been a highly involved and hard-working student throughout my degree and am eager to start applying my knowledge within the industry. I am looking to challenge myself and improve my skills through a hands on experience. Whilst I have grown a particular interest in data driven design; utilising computer analysis tools and software to inform decision making throughout the design process, I am open to exploring all areas of architecture and design.

BREAKING BARRIERS:

Breaking Barriers explores the opportunity for Swinburne University to integrate with the Glenferrie Train Station and broader community. This proposal explores how breaking physical, legislative and community barriers could improve pedestrian circulation and unite Swinburne and the broader community.

CHENNAI, SLUM CLEARANCE PROPOSAL: An alternative proposal for government housing for the relocation of slum residents. Considering financial and environmental sustainability, this proposal caters to the local context and rich culture of Chennai and its people, with minimal intervention to the existing government scheme.

Slum Relocation Housing 16

The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board are committed to eradicating problematic slum areas, prone to crime and disease, currently occupied by poverty stricken families. The board is administered by the government to relocate slum dwellers into high rise, in situ concrete developments free of charge to tenants. Whilst these developments may improve safety and hygiene, the vibrant identity and culture of the slums appears to have been bleached from them, potentially increasing resistance from slum people. 17

CONNECTING CIRCUITS:

Drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns on circuit boards, which are an ever important part of design and its advancement; an alternative kinetic facade design was proposed for Swinburne’s Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre. This facade aimed to solve issues of radiation gain and maximise natural through an adaptive shading system which catered to the program of the building.

MERGING PATHS:

‘Merging Paths’ is a boat building hub and marine research and exhibition centre. It’s design draws inspiration from the traditional craftsmanship of boat hulls, which consist of a sectioned structural frame, a skin cladding and a shared connection point. These three elements have been re-imagined on an architectural scale in an attempt to merge traditional construction with the modern world.

CORROBOREE CENTRE:

The design of this Corroboree centre was inspired by the traditional clapstick rhythms heard within Corroboree ceremonies. A grid structure was formed with 3 different rhythms where every ‘on beat’ established a closed space and every ‘off beat’ established a void space. This sense of rhythm carries through the building with hallways created according to the length of an average stride (762mm) so as occupants have the ability to create and hear their own rhythm.

HANG-OVER:

This project explored temporary topographies for a one night food and architecture festival in Christchurch, New Zealand. A design was pursued with the use of modules created from coat hangers. These were used to produce a total series of four geometries; a triangle, square, pentagon and hexagon which would serve as the basis of the design. The final design proposal was to serve as a backdrop and feature wall for the stage area at the festival.

THE VOID:

Utilising digital processes this ambiguous design was created and fabricated using over 16,000 zip-ties. This piece was installed in Swinburne’s Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre.

38.8:

This research project explores tectonic systems; using the concept of tessellation as the basis for investigation. Through parametric modelling, an interlocking tessellation system was conceptualised. With a number of constraints, the amount of unique construction components can be made infinitely or finitely variable. A coding system was also integrated within the design to allow for viable construction.
