MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
PRESIDENT’S CONCERT “A GERMAN REQUIEM” BY JOHANNES BRAHMS
May 4, 2014 Sunday, 4:00 pm Admission to this concert is FREE! The Missouri State University music department’s annual Masterworks concert tradition continues with the popular choral masterpiece “A German Requiem” by Johannes Brahms. Brahms chose the libretto from the German Luther Bible, instead of the traditional Requiem Mass in Latin, beginning with a text from The Beatitudes (“Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted”) that focuses on the living rather than the dead. The concert features the Missouri State University Combined Choirs, under the direction of Dr. Guy Webb – with guest soloists Carol Chapman, soprano and Chris Thompson, baritone – and the MSU Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Robert Quebbeman.
