The Stravinsky Project Produced in conjunction with Post-Classical Ensemble Angel Gil-Ordóñez, music director Joseph Horowitz, artistic director

This city-wide festival celebrates the groundbreaking composer Igor Stravinsky. Events include concerts, educational programs and an exhibition at Strathmore as well as performances and events at Georgetown University and the National Gallery.

Praise for the Stravinsky Festival

(when it was presented at Stanford):

“A knockout. One of those rare events we crave as listeners: a set of

18

performances that takes the familiar, confronts it and makes it new.”

Katya Chilingiri, Stravinsky Family Estate in Ukraine

“Toradze’s opening flourishes were delivered in a pulverizing flash. Why the keyboard didn’t collapse is anyone’s guess. Where called for, he also played with the most delicate, jazzy refinement. A personal—and Russian—interpretation of the composer.”

Katya Chilingiri, The Church of the Most Holy God Near St. Petersburg.

“Vatchnadze and Zagor offered a performance [of The Rite of Spring] that was physical: the notes were white-hot, the chords like branding irons, delivered with full-shoulder thrusts by the pianists, leaning in close to the keyboards to unleash the power of Stravinsky’s score. The performance was as potent as that of any orchestra I’ve heard.”

~San Jose Mercury News

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the arts.

Argentina’s most acclaimed company brings a sizzling show to Strathmore! Jason Hornick

Grammy-winning family and folk music stars Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer have made more than 50 recordings since 1984, helping generations of families grow together with music. Playing dozens of instruments from banjos to mandolins to rockin’ electric guitar and ukulele, they sing, yodel, chicken cluck in harmony, scat sing and inspire effortless participation from every audience. Join the fun— and bring a coat, hat and/or gloves to help families in need. Tickets $15–$32

Imago Theatre: ZooZoo Sunday, March 27, 2011, 2pm Music Center

Even the poutiest preschooler or the most jaded grownup will find it impossible to resist this one-of-a-kind company, who conjures up one surprise after another, including a menagerie of a giant dinosaur, hungry anteaters, hitch-hiking rabbits, introverted frogs, insomniac hippos and cantankerous polar bears. Mixing deftly designed costumes, brilliant physical comedy, illusion and audience participation, Imago Theatre is simply “captivating” (The New York Times)—“an experience of absolute glee” (The Oregonian). Tickets $15–$35
