A Business Incubator 2015 / 2016 Porto, Portugal
The requalification of an area that had enough potentiality and was undervalued was requested. The purpose was to respond to the needs and to correct the defects that impeded cultural, social and demographic progression. The proposal consists of a set of equipments that aim to improve the quality of social experiences. According to its location and geographic proximity to the other actors of its surroundings, the primary objective was to transform a silent and lifeless corner into a dynamic and prosperous space capable of creating a professional incubation environment for young audiences.
We were able to see for ourselves how scarcely represented the young age group of residents was, since local demographics display large percentages of elderly population. Having confirmed that the current academic population does not have the ambition to remain in there as residents and/or workers, we conclude that the Boavista area lacks instances directed at catering to such a demanding public. This public is composed of a variety of personalities, ethnicities and age groups with the one purpose: professional pursuit, personal ascension and quality of life assurance.
New permanent and temporary housing facilities were proposed. Permanent housing is an option for users who wish to live in the area in the long term, whereas the temporary housing facilities have been designed to respond to the young and university student public, these facilities not only allow collaboration with other colleges in the neighbourhood, but supports young entrepreneurs starting their professional careers nearby. An equipment designed to respond to academic needs has been studied to suggest an incubation centre for university students. In this way, an open space building for Co-Working has been designated according to the principles of research, ambition and companionship, where users can take advantage of the space and its services to progress in their academic career and later to enter the professional path. To address the overall concept of this proposal, the head of the intervention project consists of a Business Incubator building, called the Idea Factory. Being an office space, their intention to provide conditions for the desired career path is clear. As a transitional space between the beginning of the career and the following professional career, the Business Incubator assists financially small entrepreneurs who are starting out. The equipment was explored in order to guide the ways of using the public space and ensure a formal and relaxed, dynamic and cooperative spirit. The public space is the consequence of the implementation of the proposal. This space was created to realise the idea of an urban shelter and, at the same time, to be an open and shallow environment that would allow different forms of use. This space is not comparable with the Plaza Mouzinho de Albuquerque nor does it intend to acquire prominence in Boavista.

Creating a City 2013 Arbitrary
A challenge was announced that consisted in creating a coastal city with two highlights, these being a main square and a secondary square. This project was designed according to the geographical characteristics of Portugal, since it is based on a beautiful solar orientation: the rising sun in the East guarantees great amounts of luminosity throughout the day. And, as the urban objects face the sea line, they will receive a good sun exposure. The public spaces, these being the squares, guide the layout of the city, as it was requested that both spaces had a relationship with each other. Thus, they were designed so that the main square would hold a place near the coastline and the secondary square, placed a few blocks away, would guarantee a public path to the surprising element, which is the maritime landscape.

Study of the constructive system 2016 Porto, Portugal
The present work refers to one of the most emblematic buildings of the 19th century, the Bourgeois House of Porto and its housing typology began in the early 18th century, which underwent architectural changes according to a succession of historical, economic, social and international influences. Today it is popularly known due to its unparalleled features: a slender facade of 3 to 5 floors, with three spans in each floor and a back of the recess at the top of the building. A house amidst Rua da Costa Cabral that gathered all these elements was selected. Built in 1910, it refers to the Liberal Era and today represents the Academy of Music of Costa Cabral. The lines are of that time, the house has a high and narrow facade about 6 meters wide and 14 meters high and has a maximum depth of 21 meters.

Notes about Graça Correia 2015
Graça Correia is a promising architect that has many times proven her talent. Through the conciseness patent in her work she has demonstrated keenness in recognising the fundamental qualities of the space underlying every project she undertook. According to her, “our architecture is founded in the belief that the essence of a work of art is determined by the way its conception realises the idiosyncrasies of its genesis”. Casa em Lousado, by the atelier Correia Ragazzi, is a typical example of conceptual movements in Architecture, for it reflects a harmonious combination of human plastic art conception and the reality where it lies.
ABOUT THE ARCHITECT
CASA EM LOUSADO
Graça Correia was born in Porto in 1965 and in 1989 completed her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in the University of Porto. Since then, she has begun her individual career in the profession and collaborated with the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura until 1995. Graça Correia joined together with the architects João Pedro Serôdio and Pedro Ramalho to form the Counsel for the new Architecture course at the Lusophone University of Porto. Moreover, she is an Assistant Professor at FAUP. Since 2000 she has carried out some projects in partnership with the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, namely the Project of the Superior School of Hospitality in Portalegre and the Project for the Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings of the Robinson Factory. Her works have already been awarded, exhibited and published in Portugal, Spain, Italy, England, South Korea, China, Poland, Israel, Russia, Brazil, Argentina and the USA and she also has given lectures in numerous universities, having taken part, at the invitation of Francesco Dal Co, in the 18th anniversary celebrations of Casabella Magazine: Viaggio In Portogallo - 3 Lezioni Di Architettura in the Polytechnic of Milano and the IUAV University of Venezia. In the architecture of Correia Graça, the conviction allows, within each particularity of the program, the investment in the same themes without compromising the quality of each one. On the contrary, it defines its uniqueness. It pursues quality through the innovation and rigor of its projects, believing that architecture is a process of synthesis. It is an extraordinary process that ends in a material good, but where there are factors of various orders, material and immaterial, such as the interpretation of a place, the identification of a problem of scale, or the intervention of materials, the plasticity of which has great importance in her work. Fundamental is also the identification and mastery of the constructive logics associated with them.
The Casa em Lousado is situated in a family farm, with 3000m2, where the surrounding nature is a part of the project, but respects privacy. The housing has long platforms towards the river with walls rich in texture. The harmonious relationship between volume and surroundings is clear, with large windows offering the best view to the south. The present courtyards guarantee the desired autonomy between the house and the platform, where excellent areas of leisure are established for south, east and west. The weight of the volume is defined by its fragmentation as well as the suspension of the projection of the courtyards onto the lower level of the platform, which helps to accentuate the transparency of the lower level. The plastic possibilities of the chosen materials are determinant and have been consciously introduced as aesthetic means, without questioning the programmatic questions of the constructive logic. The distinctive form of this house provides no answer to the constructive questions, nor to the aesthetic questions associated with them. One concludes that the appearance and vision are decisive for the silhouette result.
