PV4.0 Open Architecture House

An auto sustainable and eco productive vicinity

Built Project Cali, Colombia - 2017/2019

National Univeristy of Colombia - Solar Decathlon LAC 2019

Architect Leader: Concept and design architect/ Building supervisor/ Image development team

1st Place - Energy efficiency, comfort and universal design

4th Place - Architectural and urban proposal

Social housing design in Latin America is an important challenge for the urban growth of cities and municipalities, but allows people to inhabit decent and quality spaces. A space preserved and loved by its inhabitants not only mitigates the negative environmental impact but also produces social and environmental value.

The architectural design of the PV4.0 house focuses on four concepts intended to cover the gap between social, economic, technical, and environmental aspects present in the Colombian social housing industry, with the specific case of Valle del Cauca and its municipalities.

PV1-Polyvalence, the house adapts to people and not the other way around, as happens with traditional real estate architecture. It has sliding or mobile walls that allow it to be adapted with up to 32 different configurations. PV2-Post-Virendeel, a structural system that supports a house without columns in the central part of the space allowing open architecture. PV3Photovoltaic, where 100% of the energy consumed in the home is generated by highefficiency monocrystalline panels. PV4-Productive Vicinities, an urbanization proposal that groups 120 homes in one hectare to recover deteriorated areas of Cali.

Reconstructing the connection between segregated neighborhoods

La Perse and San Martín case

Graduated Thesis

Bogotá, Colombia - 2020

Thesis Director: Leonardo Álvarez Yepes

Student work

The city grew segmented, with a high degree of social and spatial segregation, creating territorial barriers that prevented its enjoyment. This resulted in isolated and disconnected neighborhood-islands, with public spaces devoid of activity and, consequently, devoid of life itself.

This work acknowledges the necessity of constructing public spaces that can revive public-collective life in Bogotá. It proposes the insertion of architectural artifacts in La Perseverancia and San Martín, two neighborhoods chosen to carry out a project with the aim of connecting and reactivating both areas. The project seeks to reconcile the dynamics of an already built city and a city that is yet to be built, and suggests a dynamic and versatile solution for the inhabitants of the space.

Water Temporalities - Apartadó River Parks

Weaving community through the river

1st Place Latin American Biennial of Landscape Architecture

3rd Place - Public Contest

Apartadó, Colombia - 2022

Be+Maarch - El Taller de Arquitectos

Architect Designer: Concept and design architect/ Image development team

Despite being fundamental elements in the majority of cities’ foundations, rivers have ended up being contaminated, relegated, and forgotten. As a result, cities have been growing giving them their backs. In the Apartadó River case, it has been deeply damaged due to undermining and erosion, solid waste dumping contamination, improper water round occupation, and the lack of coverage in their withdrawals.

This situation has created isolated communities on both sides of the river. That is why, the project set aside the design, to understand water as a fundamental part to bring life around the river. Apartadó axis must be considered the integrator between these two communities, a space that links urban activities taking place on both river sides, through a series of diverse public spaces and facilities, connected from one side to the other by the four proposed pedestrian bridges (two new and two renovated). This boardwalktype roundabout promotes socio-economic and urban development and the direct appropriation of public space by all inhabitants.

Plaza de Armas a space for everyone

1st Place - Public Contest

Juliaca, Perú - 2021

Be+Maarch - Metha Arquitectos

Architect Designer: Concept and design architect/ Image development team

The city has found itself with lifeless spaces, concrete places that do not allow the free development of diversity and that threaten to end collective life.

This proposal aims to build a flexible space that people feel free and comfortable inhabiting. The renovation for Juliaca’s public central square is considered as a functional, catalytic and central element for the city. Architecture and landscape are relevant in today’s environment and will continue to be an important part of collective activities in the future. It is a place for the development of cultural and local identity, free of constraints.

Milan Navigli Canal Challenge

the city of water has seen a resurgence

2nd Place - Ideas Public Contest

Milano, Italy - 2022

Be+Maarch

Architect Designer: Concept and design architect/ Image development team

The Navigli channel is currently obscured from the city by large roads for automobiles (a classic canalized river). Reopening the channel would improve its connection with the city, restoring Milan’s identity as the Water City. This transformation could have a significant impact on creating new and improved spaces for its citizens.

Recovering the waterway and the historical link that bordered the city center would take a step towards opening a new way of relating the city to public space, providing new mobility networks along with a green ring accompanying the channel.

Combining the channel with ecological and pedestrian-friendly interventions would create a promenade that would transform a hard edge designed for vehicles into an environmental corridor that promotes slow mobility within the city.

Temporal and Technological Landscapes

interactive environments

Vichada, Colombia - 2022

Be+Maarch

Architect Designer: Concept and design architect/ Image development team

During a long period, we viewed rural areas as distant from cities, disregarding their potential to develop socially, economically, and culturally. Now, we are confronted with global phenomena such as pandemics, global warming, and wars, which present constant challenges to our way of living. Therefore, it is essential to create new connections between humans and nature.

This project is the vision for a rural school where humans can return to nature. The significance of knowledge, combined with the digital age, creates a landscape in which modern people can reconfigure their lifestyles to inhabit places that are more sustainable with nature.
