RE-INHABITING RAVAL MACBA’S MUSEUM EXTENSION IN AN ABANDONED CHURCH Graduation project.
Location: Raval district, Barcelona. Problem statement: Misericordia church has remained abandoned for years. It is not a listed building which allows for extensive modification. It has no real façade facing the street, just a dividing wall. Beside it sits a courtyard which remains hidden behind the church, which is public. Objective: The aim of the proposal is to provide extra square meters to the museum, without hiding the beauty of the church. As well as making public courtyard accessible to people. Strategy: The museum remains as an entrance for the public courtyard. The ground floor is very permeable, with a chiastic character of interior/exterior. Building on top of the church in order to preserve its visibility, mixing the old and new, which defines the Raval district.

URBAN DESIGN 32
THE CULTURAL DELTA THE DECENTRALIZATION OF THE FLOW OF TOURISTS, for the improvement of the quality of local daily life. International Workshop | Besides Tourism ETSAB · UPC | Barcelona, Spain | 2011 An intensive summer workshop collaborating nine international universities:
Location: “Las Ramblas” street, Barcelona.
BJUT: Beijing, China CNU: Gwangju, South Korea ETSAB: Barcelona, Spain GATECH: Atlanta, USA ITU: Istanbul,Turkey NCKU: Tainan,Taiwan NTU: Taipei, Taiwan MSA: Manchester, UK USB: Caracas, Venezuela
Problem statement: The excessive amount of tourism in Barcelona is destroying the city, especially in “Las Ramblas”, which is the most popular street with visitors. Furthermore, the city’s relationship with the sea is almost not existent. Objective: The aim of the proposal is to alleviate the negative effects of Barcelona’s over-tourism on its local infrastructure, and to open the city towards the sea, improving the city-sea relationship. Strategy: The tourism will be descentralized from “Las Ramblas” by inviting tourists to explore other major streets of interest. Traffic is diverted, to prioritize pedestrians over the vehicle. The unification of the pavement in the area of intervention will facilitate pedestrian flow continuity while reducing car speed.

ARTS 36
OTHER SKILLS ARTS · PHOTOGRAPHY · DESIGN
In my spare time, I work in a wide range of creative arts, such as photography and painting through which I explore architecture. Through photography, I train the eye and I shape objective light while through painting I explore geometry, materialising a subjective light. I am very interested in cinema too, which is the materialisation of the space-time in cities. The director Eduardo de Filippo used to say “Seek life and you will find shape; seek shape and you will find death”, with this quote any mere formalism is not justified.
