analogue vol. 8 march 2014. this zine is made up of more than two years of bottled-up anger, and water colours. It is inspired by Martha Rosler’s feminist parody video “Semiotics of the Kitchen” (1975) about which she said, ““when the woman speaks, she names her own oppression.”

men who think that plates walk by themselves from the dining table to the sink. 3


men who drain the last drop of water in the pot and wait till the resident genie comes along and fills it up again. 4


men who wash themselves scrupulously clean five times a day, but cannot imagine themselves cleaning even a spoon. 5


men who will sit in the front room “entertaining� guests while hollering at the kitchen for more tea and coffee and tea and coffee and tea and coffee and tea and coffee and tea... 6


men who wait at the table twiddling their thumbs because the breakfast that was supposed to appear at 08:00:00 am is now arriving at 08:00:03 am. 7


men who pass judgement on the taste and texture and colour and flavour of the food, without ever having even boiled water at any point in time. 8


men who think that they share household work by regularly eating food, since the other share of work is actually preparing it (which is being done by a genie) 9


men who engage in housework by consistently pointing out how the room needs sweeping, and kitchen counters need swiping, and food needs to be covered, and things need to be picked and clothes need to be... 10


men who slurp and lick their plates because tasty food is their birthright but cannot be bothered to pitch in with even a pinch of salt. 11
