Abotonados: tool to strengthen fine motor skills in children living in poverty. Project awarded by Project Management
Institute (PMI), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and doinGlobal.
1 – abotonados
*
Stimulation for kids during their early years is a key element for their development. Aiming the
problems faced by kids, already in the first years, due to lack of stimulation of dexterity, with repercussions in reading and writing. This tool was designed for people living in poverty unaware of the importance of early childhood stimulation. Abotonados combines workshops for parents and children to learn, create and share together. Focusing on the importance of early stimulation and creating toys to improve the fine motor skills, which are low cost and easy and fun to make. *Bringing mothers and children together in child development
Childhood development
1 – abotonados Bringing kids needs, design strategies, empathy and stimulation all together. Parents and kids working together during all the process, making them feel empowered while developing a project for themselves.
The workshop was tailored made for the parents with children between 3 -6 years old; during this the parents were first taught the importance of hand and finger strength and eye-hand coordination and also were provided with the materials and instructions to manufacture the toys. Due to the aim of Abotonados to support children, they took part during each step for the preparation and implementation of the project. As an alternative even some older siblings took part of the workshop.

2 – ana pastor
With the desire to raise awareness and promote Guatemalan artisans, showing how talented they are and how meticulous all the work behind a handmade product is; Ana Pastor was created to support artisans by showing them new ways to innovate. Working with new materials and creating new products. The focus is to create hand-made bags for the sustainable and quality aware customer while supporting artisans in rural areas. Entrepreneurship

3 – orbis
Orbis was designed with the intention of helping children during their independence and selfconfidence phase. A scooter that will not only give them fun moments but will also help them to be more confident. This is achieved thanks to its Ready-To-Assemble system, so that they can assemble it with the help of their parents, promoting family time and curiosity to build.
Mobility
3 – orbis Connecting with the children through games and playful
activities. Listening, observing and understanding them with the intention of implementing their needs into this project.
Orbis combines light but resistant materials and adds a steering system that works by balance and according to the rider's weight placement. This results in a smoother ride. Once the rider has reached the right speed, the rider can sit down to cruise more comfortably and also enjoy while seated. Mobility
4 – payán bags
Finding a solution to plastic waste is even more complicated for people living in the top of a mountain, without help from the state and a lack sanitation. Payán Bags made it possible in a project with Enactus. Developing a solution in Payá, a remote village formed by families that
walk up and down the mountain everyday to get food, daily supplies and to work.

made sustainable solution, to develop a recycling culture that improves their health and community.

mountain but there is no safe way to get it down or dispose it. They tend to burn it or dump it in small landfills next to their homes, unaware of the damage it causes to their health and the environment. This is why we made them aware of their problem, identified their needs and created a solution for them.

5 – the new hasa
Most people in rural Guatemala have an improvised stove that runs on solid fuels, unfortunately this are neither safe nor healthy. The smoke they generate and the location of the fuel inlet, are just a few of the problems that can harm the person in the kitchen and the children around them while cooking. Because many families resort to this type of stoves, we worked hand in hand with HASA a company specialized in stoves, to provide Guatemalans with a safe, accessible and healthy solution. Consulting

Adapted burners to the size of the holes of the pan, by means of a funnel that is found when lifting the sized plates over the stove.
To prevent smoke stay inside the kitchen, the chimney is made by several folds so the smoke could escape through the walls of the houses, which are made of sheet metal.
