ENVISION SALISBURY, M

The master planning of the city of Salisbury Maryland, the capital of the Delmarva Peninsula on the Eastern Shore took into consideration environmental, and social issues discussed at a community workshop. The mediation of flooding was the main drive of this proposal. The revitalization of the downtown was designed by reprograming Main St and providing more spaces for cultural gatherings. The bike culture is very important in the town and thus inspired the bike/pedestrian loop around the downtown and waterfront. A market flanked by restaurants is introduced in the south by the waterfront to attract the local hospital’s employees and to serve the proposed residential spaces that overlook tiered wetlands and Highline-inspired pier.

14TH STREET HOUSIN

Housing for young urban professionals that creates a destination by reviving the community culture and history through entertainment of art and music. With a range of unit sizes to accommodate different scenerios of young professionals. A social living idea tailors to a smooth transition from living with a roomate, living single and if applicable, with a partner. On the ground floor there is a public venue, displaying local history and culture through a fusion of vibrant entertainment and exposed murals. The space doubles as a cafe in the morning and music venue at night, to accommodate to the residential community coming from Swann St in the morning and the restaurant life on 14th st in the evening. The building holds several other social interaction spaces limited to its residents.

INNOVATION + COMMUNIT

The innovation and community building is a connection between the arts district of 14th U st and the design/fabricate world within the building. It invites people to populate and communicate on the ground floor through its open double height interaction space. An exhibition space spills onto this volume creating for an easy flow between interaction, presentation and observation. There is a play in transparency and visibility throughout, creating instances where the public is visually engaging other space , similar experience to what someone might have during the design process. A staircase is celebrated at the core of the building to unite the public domain with the thinking and creation spaces. It represents the flow of ideas exchanged in this building.
