22ananyajain@gmail.com INFORMAL MOSELEY FINAL MAJOR PROJECT A high street regenerative project through re-adaptive reuse of an existing super market 3
Several years have passed since the catastrophic 2020, the upheaval that caused Moseley to leave Birmingham and become an independent town. The time has passed when a few influential people could gather in a room to decide what a city will be. Instead, the future of Moseley will be determined by hundreds of actions taken daily by thousands of people based on what they believe in and their role within it. Moseley is transitioning into a town that celebrates enterprise, education, and skill. Moseley has a vibrant civic society that is focused on the future, empowers local communities, and is supported by local businesses and institutions. The people feel the need for a Town Hall for Moseley that represents the spirit of the town. It is important that the new Town Hall for Moseley provides a space for an open and safe democracy as well as encourages people to become consumers and co-producers. The Town Hall needs to be a hub for citizens to be radical, brave and brace the challenges of the future.

The Town hall proposes various making spaces like a double-height wood workshop space, formed by carving a void within the existing floor plate, fashion studio, digital production as well as community kitchen, canteen, shop and growing spaces. Central to the proposal is the staircase which becomes the theatrical and social heart of the building and creates a dialogue between the old and the new. ANIMAL PEN

PARLIAMENT LAYOUT SEMINAR LAYOUT EXHIBITION LAYOUT INCUBATOR LAYOUT
The Moseley parliament would be a playful exploration that allows users to experiment with different configurations to discuss and arrange ideas. It tries to reshape the representative bodies and experiment with new models that are attuned to contemporary life and challenges of the 21st century. When not in use, the assembly space could be converted into a lecture hall, exhibition and business incubator. The furniture will be ready to be hijacked and used in ways that is unexpected or planned, giving users the ownership over the construction and the reconfiguration of the new spaces while making use of what is already in place and accessible.

The existing façade and the existing concrete structure will be retained. New glulam structure will be used for the second and third floor. The channelled glass will be used for the parliament as it allows passers-by to catch glimpses of what is happening inside the parliament as they walk on the streets. The translucent white cladding provides privacy whilst offering a hint of movement inside. The tiles will be created using earth mix. The people of Moseley will make these tiles on the site and can contribute in the making of the Town Hall. The result of cultivating this caring approach will make the whole process more enriching for the community. It is important that the cladding for the Town Hall complements its neighbouring varied and lively red brick buildings. Hence the red hue is chosen in reference to the brick of the neighbouring Victorian buildings. The top image is an un-pigmented sample of the earth tile which is made using sand, silt, and clay.

ROAD TO RECOVERY YEAR PROJECT
Individual houses with internal courtyards and rooftop gardens will be allotted to families. The internal courtyards merge to form a bigger central courtyard where the residents can sit and enjoy. The internal courtyards will act as small recovery zones where residents will get a chance to meet people undergoing the same pain but having different experiences. The scheme tries to strike a balance between private and shared spaces so that the residents can go through the process of dealing with cancer at their own pace. The scheme focuses on recovery of patients and helping them adjust to the life altering changes caused due to cancer treatment.
Housing project for the recovering cancer patients and their family
Partnering with the city, the proposal aims to provide housing to all cancer patients and their families on the way to recovery. The proposal includes wild landscaping on the outside which slowly becomes calmer as we go inside.

Architecture Portfolio THE ENTERPRISE CENTRE TECHNICAL INVESTIGATION MODULE
ENVIRONMENTAL SECTION OF THE ENTERPRISE CENTRE
For the technical investigation module, One click LCA software was used to calculate the amount of embodied carbon of the materials used. Since, the embodied carbon of the materials used in the Enterprise Centre are extremely low, the timber frame of the building was substituted with a concrete frame. The results are shown in the figures below. The substituted materials have doubled the carbon emissions. This shows the negative impact that concrete has on the built environment.

They have to consider everything – how far stone might have to travel from quarry to site, for example, and whether or not a building’s components will end up as landfill when it is demolished.” These collages are an interpretation the same.
