retirement home The Project is based on the restoration of some of the derelict buildings in the plot, maintaining these long military facilities will suppose a lengthwise strategy for the project. This proposal aims to encourage the connection between the nearby public spaces creating a virtual line that joins all of them together. Moreover it is posed to give a new use to the military residence in order to repair and reactivate it. The image of the project tries to generate a human scale landscape for the elderly users by using gabled roofs which are commonly more related to the rural area, where they usually come from, than to the city.

08 ...structural strategy The structure should be coherent with the proposal that's why it is thought to keep and repair the old steel structure and incorporate a series of different metal trusses that generate the characteristic and recognizable image of the project. There are also two concrete walls that will reduce the number of pillars needed in the supervised apartments building as well as allow the projection over the access to the plot.

Porto Pool Promenade 2015-competition

The aim of the Porto pool promenade competition is to create a new atmosphere where leisure activities can take place. Activities like swimming, canoeing, fishing, running...work together along the new building in the river bank. The proposal is based on a new pedestrian path linked to the existent pavement going over the river and connecting the walking area that comes from the other side of the Luis I bridge. The proposal will consist of a series of elements designed with old wine barrels from the Porto wineries in order to provide an economica and suistainable solution that will resemble to the past tradition of the city.

New police statiton in A CoruĂąa 2015-open competition

The plot is characterised by its strategic situation being in the intersection between two of the main roads in the city. The aim of the project is to take advantage of this exceptional corner, removing the physical and visual barriers in order to open it to the city. The slope will represent an opportunity of creating public space. It will be crucial to make the most of the existing building so as to present a realistic and responsible project. The narrow courtyard will be enlarged in order to transform a dark and unused space into a lively space full of live that will provide the building with relax areas and flexible spaces.

Aalborg common ground 2015-restricted competition

MUTOPIA’s response to the urbanization initiative of the Sohngårdsholm area in Southern Aalborg is a carefully tuned densification proposal of the existing urban belt based on a 4-point strategy to create an OPEN, DIVERSE, DENSE and UNIQUE urban environment. Combining the development of the urban area and the adjacent park, the project shapes a CityPark as a common ground uniting the better of two worlds: concentrated urban development supported by the upcoming light rail in combination with optimized accessibility to Sohngårdsholmsparken, the most important vantage point of Aalborg city. In order to effectively cope with the transformation of the area, MUTOPIA proposed an adaptive staged development strategy based on a systematic assessment of the existing building mass.

SohngĂĽrdsholmsvej 55-57 The SohngĂĽrdsholmsvej 55-57 plot contains a number of robust disused brick buildings, scenically placed within a hilly terrain, and interconnected by covered walkways centred on a beautifully landscaped courtyard. Removing the covered walkways increases the accessibility, while enabling each building to be developed individually as a collection of singularities and according to a specially designed retrofit catalogue. A new building structure placed along the perimeter of the plot significantly increases the FAR, while a grand opening towards SohngĂĽrdsholmsvej accommodates the new junction and connection to the nearby Magisterparken residential area. #1 Existing buildings
