KUWAIT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

KIA is one of the largest Airports in the middle east with +300 K m2 roof build-up. Designed and supervised by Foster+ Partners Architects. This work is showcasing the work done in the roofing scope for +4 million m2 of materials layered on top of the building using a parametric design approach to automate the components with associated data that was processed later on for design development, fabrication, and installation.

4

This demonstrates the process of the design automation steps for the decking layer of the roof cladding using an adaptive family formulated using a dynamo script, this was later on prepared as a construction, fabrication, and installation documents where accurate closure on the building was installed using this computational design cutting edge solution as a guide.

5

KIA roof geometry complexity was not associated with it’s curvature only, it had 7922 penetrations through funnels that varies in height and width. Modelling an adaptive family was a no brainer. The family was later on used in a dynamo visual script to rationalise the prototype using the pre-set parameters for both the steel skeleton, and the brass penalization cladding on top of it.

7

Microsoft power BI was a cutting edge solution to represent live data that was reported through design ,and construction team, and it’s all automated through dynamo scripts feeding to excel sheets, and excel sheets feeding into the Microsoft Power BI.

ETIHAD ARENA

Etihad Arena is the Middle East’s largest state-of-the-art indoor entertainment venue built on the stunning waterfront of Yas Island Abu Dhabi’s leisure and holiday hub. This indoor venue seats 18,000 guests and is designed to host world class concerts, sport events and corporate functions. It is Abu Dhabi’s first large scale indoor live event arena. The design of the arena is inspired by the woven mesh of the baskets used by the Bedouin tribes which reflects the well-known and world famous Arabic hospitality. The project was awarded the Sustainable Design of the Year at the MENA Green Buildings Award in 2018.

A GEOMETRIC CHALLENGE The building geometry was still being designed while we were invited to work on the project. In order to overcome this challenge, we used a parametric design approach on a BIM work-flow where the multi layers of the roofing system could be changed and adapted to the steel design development with regards to geometric interfacing and behaviour. One of the benefits of using the parametric design approach was that we were able to issue fabrication cut lists from the generated design automatically. This approach also minimized the time spent on detailing all the interfaces of roof system after the steel design was finalized.

10

11

Using laser scanning technology the as-built of the steel structure was captured and reported back to the design work-flow using the generated point cloud models. This QAQC procedure insured accurate date, and later on accurate cut list for the materials that was sent off to the site for installation.

BOSTON LOGAN AIRPORT

Logan International Airport Terminal E Modernization project is an expansion project for the the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), system. The terminal is jointly designed by Luis Vidal and AECOM with the intent to improve the customer experience while increasing Logan’s capacity to service wide-bodied jets. This presented works showcases the roofing design approach using parametric design, and automation as a main drive to deliver the project. the complexity is existing in both the geometry and roof components that was changed for 3 times under the supervision of AECOM, and the flexibility of the this method made adapting to the design changes possible with minimum spent on design and associated materials.

MORO HUB

Moro Hub, a new purpose built data centre situated in Dubai marina. The Moro Hub is also the first LEED Platinum data centre in the Middle East. Moro is a Dubai Energy and Water Authority company (DEWA) and the design on the end of the building has been designed in the shape of a D signifying the link between the two businesses. My experience on this project was from A-Z taking care of the engineering, sustainability, and BIM.

PALAZZO VERSACIE DUBAI

Palazzo Versace Dubai Hotel is developed on 130,000 square metres (1,400,000 sq ft) and opened in November, 2016. It has 215 hotel rooms and suites, 169 residences, and 8 restaurants and bars. The landscaped gardens offer views of the Dubai Creek and skyline. Project scope was related to design development and governmental entities code compliance and approvals.

SHERHABIL BIN HASSENEH ECHO PARK SERVICE FACILITY

In the Jordanian valley, an environmental organization “Sherhabil Bin Hassneh” are hosting a camping activities to raise awareness towards nature and land resources. Due to the sensitivity of the site, container architecture was an ideal solution to avoid any construction activity in the site.

WELLNESS TOURESTIC VILLAGE

This is research based concept design project that was established as a requisite for the graduation of the architecture school, this project was performed based on Jordan’s main pillar of source of income as the country is poor in natural resources. Tectonics in architecture is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers constrains needs, but rather to the activity that rises this construction to Van art form.

AL-HAMMAM ST. REHABILITATION

Al-Hammam Street is a traditional route that located at the middle of As-Salt city. It extends almost 285m inside the old city. It was built at the end of the 19th century, and it called Al-Hammam Street relatively to a Turkish Hammam at the 1930’s. Noteworthy that the Municipality of As-Salt started to floor the souq on 1923. What differentiate the street that the sops are at the ground floor and the rest floors are residential; and it reflects the architectural style of the region between 1881-1918. The structural system was contracts and archways, thick walls, which sometimes up to meter, and windows with pointed arches and convex. The buildings has built of yellow stone. Usually the second floor in the street all the buildings with a large number of openings facing the street.

26

Problem Statement The unique historic centre of As-Salt is falling to pieces: Physically; it’s unique heritage of buildings is being allowed to decay and mutilated by bad modern development. Environmentally; the commercial and social life of the city is draining out of the core, leaving vacant sites, empty buildings, and houses in poor repair.

27

Driving Force Activities These spots are the gathering points in the old street, and the proposal is to make them eventful with some socio-cultural events than can bring another dimension and connection to the place. Al baladyah plaza is suggested to be a reading spot with libraries around, where Al medan plaza is going to host an open art studio with a gallery.

28

Canopy Analysis To make the street more efficient we decided to design a special canopy that provide a good ventilation and lighting with considering the view influence. This canopy composite of a split units extends all over the street in view of a sustainable method. Under-Ground Water Tank
