in this project, i had to investigate an ‘event’ and explore the relationships between such an event, the ‘Space’ that surrounds it and a ‘form’ that encompasses it in doing so, i had to develop a design that had an architectural narrative, forming proposal which accumalte poetic expressions of ideas the aim of this project was to encourage me to explore philisophical and theoretical approaches to design problem-solving, through which i will be able develop a critical approach to self-evelaution of design ideas and an intellectual framework in support of independent design development The site location was an old church on the university capus and our job was to renovate the compex into a contemperary concerthall whilst still keeping its regional contex
Event, Space & Form 4
SITE ANALYSIS St Paul’s is a former church built in 1829 that now provides a venue for a range of concerts. Converted from a church in 1980, this unusual concert hall seats 400 people and was designed by John Oates (an architect from neighbouring Halifax) and by local stonemason Joseph Kaye. St Paul’s is conveniently located next to Huddersfield Ring Road on the University of Huddersfield Campus. It is situated close to the town centre with ample parking to be found in the large patrolled car park just across the road. The station is about 5 minutes walk from the hall.

CONCEPT SECTION
My concept was trying to focus on the individuality of music. When I first watched the performance in st pauls church I didn’t only focus on what they played but also their movements and each one of them had their own specific style of movement across the instrument that they were playing as if they were doing a performance of their own, which led me to the idea of levitating balconies this way I would be able to make the performer feel as if they are performing as an individual person however they would just be at a different height and seen from a different perspective from the audience. I believe that this will allow the audience to focus more clearly on the movement of the performer whose about to play the next piece and I feel that they will be able to get more involved with the concert. This idea can be closely be linked to a music editing board this is because every instrument is playing a line of their own on their given level whilst playing in full harmony with the other instruments.

The natural ventilation in the building will be provided by the air duct on the south facing wall where the prevailing wind, this Natural air will rise as it gets denser and will go through a heat exchanger where some of the excess air will be vented out from the vents in the roof, whilst the rest is directed through a catalyst in the plant room where the hot air is cooled down and diffused back out through the bottom of the seats. A problem that I faced was, diffusing the air below the seats could be quite uncomfortable for the audience as it’s cold air coming from the bottom. To solve that problem I decided to increase the number of diffusers that way I can supply air slower whilst still providing the same amount, which would also mean less noise to interfere with the auditorium equalling to better acoustics.

This design is concerned with the study of a real place in an unfamiliar context, the identification and analysisof specific locations for a new building, preparation of a design brief and the development of architectural design proposals that express an architectural narrative, satisfy specific and predetermined user requirements and resolve spatial organisation. The aim of the design project was to produce a holistic architectural design, which not only satisfies functional needs, but is also responsive and appropriate to the cultural and environmental context of the chosen location.

SITE ANALYSIS SITE
There are two main located on my site, one being the primary school and the other a high school. there is also another middle school adjacent to my site, these 3 school link together with the majority of kids progressing throughout these institution as the years go by where they are coming from the surrounding local area creating a close community, there are also various language and private tutoring institutions located throughout the site which is also used by students.
CONCEPT
My idea is to design a youth centre/ community centre in ho chi minh, district 1. the reason i have decided this is because there are 4 or more schools on our site in the afternoon there are many kids that leave school and hang around in the area either just talking or playing games on streets. seeing this has inspired me to create a youth centre available for all ages, a place where kids around the community can come together.

PLANS GF The ground floor consists of the reception and the cafe there are 2 different entrances on both sides of the building that would bring you to different places. the reception is used to register the people that would want to be a part of the youth centre as there is a registration process to allow full control of who goes in and out of the building this would assure the safety of the young children. the cafe is there for public use and fro parents who are waiting for their children to be picked up or are just socialising whilst thrower kids are enjoying the facility.
The preschool area consists of the ages 3-6. there are a variety of things that are done on this floor that is suitable for young kids to enjoy such as a slide and different play areas. There is also a reading and a arts and craft area where the kids will constantly be supervised to gain the best experience possible.
The elementary section of the building consist of kids aged 6-11 and has many different activities taking place within the space. the look of the elementary has matured a lot more when compared to the preschool floor this is mainly due to adding an element of learning within the area. there are quiet reading places to study however there is still the element of leisure on the other side of the room where there are places to play games and a huge slide that goes from one floor to the other.
When you get to the middle school section the ages consist of 11 - 15 and from the visuals you can see the activities in the room have started to become more mature and links closer to the social vibe rather than the exploring/curiosity vibe shown in the previous floors. in this area there are pool tables and table tennis and a reading section, there are also many areas to sit and socialise or read a book.

This floor is split into 2 parts the left-hand side being the preschool where kids from 3-6 have classes and have a section with a TV for when it’s time to watch films. It also has the entrance of the slide to get down to the next floor. on the right-hand side is where the middle school section consisting of kids aged 6-11 starts. this area is mainly an open spaced area, where kids can come and play with their toys and all other sorts of thing there is and so a huge slide to get from one floor to the other that end on this floor is shown in the render.

The Highschool section is very similar to the middle school area where the place focuses more on a social vibe it’s a place where young people will be able to get together share ideas have a quiet place to relax and socialise with their peers the room consist of many seating areas and activities where they are able to play pool or table tennis.

The playground is open to all ages within the facility for the youngest child to the elderly it’s a place where all parents and children can come together to enjoy the sun there’s a place were the elderly and parents can sit and have a chat whilst the kids are playing in the playground.

SERVICE SECTION
My plant room is in the basement of my building where most of the building’s applications are placed, the reason I placed my plant room there because I felt that it would be the most efficient place as I can pass the services through the cores. Due to my building being 7 stories, pumping water to my bathrooms from my plant rooms would mean using a lot of pressure, therefore, wasting a sufficient amount of energy. However, i placed a water reserved water tank on the roof so that the water could be pumped up a single pipe saving tonnes of energy and distributing the water downwards through the aid of gravity. My ducts will pass through the thick cores and then between the suspended ceiling shown in the diagram, allowing a consistent amount of ventilation. My electrical wires will pass through the columns and cores to supply electricity through the entire building such as light and air conditioning.

ENVIROMENTAL SERVICES
The facade is made up of acacia timber which is locally distributed and manufactured in Ho Chi Minh District 12, the facade is half louvred and half open depending on the orientation of the sun path. the louvred side is the side facing the sun path where the open side is facing away this allows an appropriate amount of sunlight into the building with out it getting over heated therefore using less energy to cool down the building through air conditioning the building is also glazed from both side to allow the south-east prevailing winds to travel through the building ventilating it with a fresh supple of air. ho Chi Minh is a city that suffers from a lot of pollution due to the enormous amount of transport vehicles used within the region therefore I decided to use the timber for sustainable reasons in the means to absorb the co2 and lower the emission in the region as every metre cubed of timber used in a structure absorbs approximately 1 tonne of co2 (0.8 tonnes to be exact) The building is surrounded by glazing where the majority of the windows could be slid open this would allow the south-east prevailing wind to travel through the building constantly providing fresh cool air, whilst getting rid of the warm rising air. I also used high ceilings to stop the warm air affecting the users.

STRUCTURE
My primary beams are connected to the main columns of my steel structure frame and transfer the main load of the floor down the column of the beam to a collumn connection. The 2 cores are able to act as the main support and transfer the load of the entire structure to the foundations the cores also transfer natural load such as th#e wind to prevent the building from toppling over therefore excluding the need of bracing. The beams are connected to the core through a normal angle bracket. The thickness of the core being 400mm.

TECHTONICAL APPLICATION SECTIONS OF STEEL 1. CROSS CONCRETE CONNECTION
TO
One of my main aims was to avoid my facade connecting to the floor foundation to support it up, therefore, i used a steel to concrete connection that is normally used for balconies to hold my facade up. The process starts with 2165 mm anchor bars that are reinforced into the slab to give the facade structural support. These anchor bars are connected to a steel plate that allows the rest of the mechanism to connect to the building. The fabricated bracket can be manufactured to an adjustable size to allow an appropriate distance between the facade and curtain wall. this bracket is then connected to a smaller beam that spans across the entire building, repeating the process of the mechanism several times.

SECTION OF COMPOSITE FLOOR DECK
For my slab, I used a composite steel floor deck with reinforced concrete I used this component due to its strength and long span. the aim of my building was to have the least amount of columns and allow the space to be as open as it could allowing there to be more freedom within the interior there more activity The composite state; is made up of cast in situ concrete reinforced with welded wire on top of a steel profiled decking that is connected to the beam due to shear stud connectors that hold the decking in place.

the renders shows the north entrance of the building. it is one of the quitest and least busiest areas on our site, therefore, you would have full control of who belongs and who is passing by, also a safer place for kids to hang out. its also next to the main road making it an easy acess from and towards the hub and finally, its right opposite one of the large schools on our site and others are at a close distance.

Most new houses are of poor quality, unaffordable to all but the most wealthy, and too small. Around 70% of all buildings in the UK are houses and the need for more houses is becoming ever more apparent. A number of factors have converged to create a huge problem in the UK housing market; economic growth has risen, household sizes have decreased, and decades of low housing outputs. The aim of this project was to design a good quality affordable housing that seeks to engender; Sustainable design including new (and old) materials that reduce carbon emissions and produce buildings that cost less to heat, light and maintain. High-quality designs that are suitable, flexible and long lasting; designs that people would wish to keep and enjoy. Mixed communities where private houses, affordable and social housing, and the spaces that surround them are all afforded the same high standard of design quality.
Response to Climate, People, Place 28
SITE The area consist of many open green spaces which is open both To the people of Holbeck and the public I did this mainly due to the reason That Holbeck lacks green spaces where people can enjoy the fresh air that Is provided to them with the very popular listed building right ne3xt to the Open space it will surely become a vibrant area that people all around Holbeck Can come together and enjoy. The houses are made with huge panel windows to maximise Sunlight and take in the many views that are given through the site.

This view shows the second open space that is on the site which is More for the people who live in the housing as the houses encircle This little space that consists of 821 square metres it contains a playground For kids within the housing to play in and due to the layout of the map it also Gives that sense of privacy as it is enclosed within the site this is an area Where most of the houses are facing either through large windows, allotments or balcony. This is to give the idea that the children who enjoy themselves within the area have some Sort of safe keeping as there are many people including their parents to watch over them It’s also a pleasant place for the children to be whilst the parent/grandparents enjoy Their own daily routine. This part of the site is mainly there for the safe keeping Of the younger residents.

WORK EXPERIENCE
I was involved in several projects within the Higher Education and Healthcare sectors, which included; Student Residential, Learning & Teaching Accommodations, Student Social Facilities, and technical science & research-based projects. In between phases of these projects I was given several occasions to work independently, in order to allow me to develop my own understanding of the architectural process. such independent site surveys & site visitsand creating my own stage 2 feasibility reports
I’m currently part of the design team in a largescale commercial project in Westminster. I started working with this project since stage 1 initial design and we are currently in the process of creating a full planning application whilst making constant changes to the design. This has been very Knowledgeable since I’m involved in something that is completely new to me whilst working very closely with the design director and an experienced team of designers.
