Something completely different from the Balkan neighborhood at MakeDox
For the past two days in the Children’s Theater Center and Kursumli an, we had the opportunity to see three unique stories from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bulgaria. Something completely different from the neighborhood,. Yesterday at 7.00 pm, at the Children’s Theater Center was screened the documentary “SonoLog - Sound Diaries”. The author, Hanna A.W. Slak announced before the screening:”?his is a film to listen to, rather that watch”. Hana was accompained with one of the producers of the film who was also present in the amphitheater. “SonoLog” describes the change of sound and its influence on the filmmaker. Yesterday evening, the audience in Kursumli an was greeted by the two documentary authors:Srdjan Keca, creator of “Mirage”, a documentary about the conflict between the economic growth and the unique traditions in Dubai and Nedjat Begovic, author of “A Cell Phone Movie”. Begovic, in his cell-phone documentary, charmed the audience with his spontaneous and humorous approach. “Mr. Einstein, can it be a bit simpler?” is one of the many graffiti paroles captured by photo: Galina Strackova

We could hear the sound of the spider web and the dust in the two studios in Kyoto and Ljubljana where the Slovenian sonorous artist Hanna Preuss, prepares her sound abstracts and the sonoric theater with Japanese and Slovenian performers. Preuss uses sounds created during the preparation and the execution of the shows, manipulated to such an extent that the listener cannot tell from where the raw sound comes(whether from the movements on the scene or vaccumming the theater space). Her goal is to provoke maximum relaxation for the audience to such extent that will make them fall asleep carelessly. She believes that only when the body and mind are completely relaxed someone is able to receive and perceive the univer-sound, i.e. the universe of the sound. This experimental and different approach used by the author in the documentary itself, triggered an interesting debate after the screening. If the goal of sonoric theater is to bring the untouchable to a different, higher level, nevertheless the same goal is shared by a film.But do images actually have an advantage over sounds? Which one is more powerful? We leave you with this thought in conclusion, so that you may get the inspiration to see “SonoLog - Sound Diaries”.

The documentary material was created in the period between 2008 and 2011, and Nele managed to bring out genuine laughter among the present viewers by turning his everyday routine and a coronary disease recovery into this interesting work..

Children’s Theater Center A day before yesterday, many of the present people in the audience in the Children’s Theater Center were asking themselves the very same question: How often do we think about the creators of sexploitation films? Or should have we asked ourselves:How seldom do we think about the authors of Hollywood sexploatation films from the 60s and 70s? Well, we had the unique opportunity to think about this topic for exactly 58 minutes during the screening of “Daddy Made Dirty Movies”. This documentary examines this particular type of authors,more particulary Stephen Apostolof who was the founder of sexploatation films in America, and came to Hollywood fleeing communist Bulgaria Apostolof created innocent soft-porn movies, as part of the erotic film industry before the liberalization of the pornographic films in America. In the documentary, he “led” us through his life-story, or better put, his role of a typical Hollywood producer of bad, cheap and charlatan sex films.The most popular one “Orgy Of The Dead”
he created with his friend at the time, Ed Wood. The nonchalant behavior of Stephen and the statements of his family members have also been translated in his works as well as the voice-over in the film by the film-narrator Jordan Torodov. As the producer of the film announced after the screening in the Children’s Theater Center (not really the most appropriate place for the screening of this film!), the voice-over has been based on Apostolof’s original voice preserved from telephone interviews and TV statements, as well as produced in his own way and time of expression with a rather heavy English accent. The almost surreal “distractions” in the documentary, such as the scene where a naked lady rides a white horse in a “western” film and many other (as the producer said) carefully selected “cute” scenes, did indeed entertain the viewers’ audience in the 60s.The passage of time ate the industry up along with the appearance of the first hard-core pornographic film, “Deep Throat” in the 70s. The narrator left us with an interesting thought, an extract from the film - “When things get too real, there is no space left for imagination”. After the end of the screening, the producer shared with the audience that the realization of the film took about five years, and that it was very difficult to manage in funding this specific time-capsule about Apostolof’s “spicy” american dream.
