Ancala’s online magazines and publications was founded and generated by IN Creative and Marketing. IN came up with the idea with intensions of doing a small mailer for the local businesses that wanted to direct mail to the existing potential customers in the surrounding communities.

ISNI[\

In Creative and Marketing’s team realized very quickly that there were not only local businesses that would like to be in the publication but also larger customers that would like to target that same demographic of higher income brackets and elite names, celebrities, doctors and business owners.

Take a Hike! BY ROGER NAYLOR / PHOTOS BY JOEL HAZELTON

IF HIKING ISN’T SCOTTSDALE’S OFFICIAL PASTIME, IT SHOULD BE. No other Arizona city has protected such expansive tracts of pristine desert and mountains. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve and neighboring parks provide instant access to wild country. It’s a quality-of-life benefit cherished by residents and also enjoyed by visitors. With hundreds of miles of trails to choose from, it can be hard to pick the best one for you. Here’s a brief hiking guide to help you get started. CHALLENGING: TOM’S THUMB Capping a high ridge in the McDowell Mountains, Tom’s Thumb is a cloudspearing thrust of stone visible for miles. The trail to reach the formation is steep, but the views are so stunning, I barely notice that I’m huffing and puffing. Hikers start on a level path in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve departing from Tom’s Thumb Trailhead. Then the switchbacks tilt upward and you’re soon climbing through a lavish garden of boulders. The steepness tapers off, and after 2 miles you’ll reach the short spur path that rambles to the base of the thumb. Take time to explore the alcoves and breezeway carved into the rocky formation. Although the Tom’s Thumb Trail continues, this feels like a perfect turnaround point. Head back down for a strenuous 4.6-mile round-trip hike. Trailhead: Tom’s Thumb (23015 N. 128th Way) Difficulty Rating: Difficult

SCENIC: GRANITE MOUNTAIN LOOP I’ve often said that despite its sharp and spiny fingers, the Arizona desert has an uncanny ability to steal your heart. This trail proves it. Slip away from the city and be immersed in a land of texture and drama. Saguaros march across terrain punctuated by giant boulder slabs, while craggy Granite Mountain dominates the skyline. Granite Mountain Trailhead anchors the northern portion of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Start on Bootlegger Trail, then Saddlehorn before connecting to Granite Mountain Loop. The trail hugs the lower slope as it makes a languid circle delivering relentless panoramas and soulnourishing solitude. The hike maintains a gentle grade for the 6.1-mile round-trip. Trailhead: Granite Mountain (31402 N. 136th St.) Difficulty Rating: Moderate KID-FRIENDLY: HOLE IN THE ROCK It’s not much of a trail really, more just a scramble up the back of a hill to a cave, which is what makes

it so perfect for kids. And for geezers like me who never forgot the simple joy of climbing on rocks and exploring holes. The trail in Papago Park provides access to one of the distinctive buttes of crumpled sandstone that resemble scoops of partially melted petrified ice cream. Eons of erosion gouged out caves and alcoves in the rocky formations, and a wide path takes you to the most prominent. It’s an easy 0.2-mile climb around the backside to a big natural opening. Enter the chamber once used as a solar calendar by the Hohokam people and enjoy commanding views of the Valley of the Sun. Of course, the hike is just the start of a great day. Papago Park also is home to two of the region’s most popular destinations, the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden. Soon as you’re rested, climb down for your next adventure. Trailhead: Hole in the Rock (Papago Park Rd. east of Galvin Pkwy.) Difficulty Rating: Easy

100 Best Top Doctors Voted By Pears and The Community

Why Castle Connolly Top Doctors? Clinical Excellence. In the words of this Castle Connolly Neurosurgeon, “Clinical excellence comes from a passion to do what’s best for each individual patient who trusts his or her life and wellbeing to your care.”* For over 25 years, our research process finds those who share this passion and committment. These are the doctors other doctors choose for themselves. Look no further than the Castle Connolly name.

SHOW SEARCH Delaying Necessary Care Can Be More Harmful Than COVID-19 An important note from the Castle Connolly Medical Advisory Board Twitter Email Show more sharing options In this time of upheaval in our society due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vitally important that patients not ignore medical issues. Unfortunately, there is mounting evidence that too many patients are forgoing other necessary and often critical health needs because of their fear of contracting COVID-19 in a health setting, be it a physician’s office, medical clinic, or a hospital. In fact, a recent study conducted by the Commonwealth Fund estimated that patient visits in June were down as much as 30 percent in some specialties. For many patients, avoiding their medical needs may have severe consequences, equal to or greater than contracting COVID-19. Specifically, postponing or ignoring such critical services as mammograms, colon cancer screenings, exams for skin cancer, and many other important care encounters can be not only unwise but also devastating. “Delaying elective surgery is deferring needed care and may worsen your medical condition,” says John Morton, MD, division chief for bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at Yale School of Medicine. “Surgery can and should be performed safely in the time of COVID-19.” “One of the important collateral issues is to provide assurance to patients that critical ancillary testing needs (e.g., MRI, CT, echocardiogram, endoscopies) can be done safely and in line with social distancing guidelines,” says L. Dade Lunsford, MD, FACS, FAANS, professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. “Cancer and acute stroke care should not be delayed.” According to Suzanne Oparil, a cardiologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and also a member of the Medical Advisory Board, people who are working with their doctors to carefully manage their medical conditions are in a better position to survive COVID-19 than those who are going it alone. This body encourages patients to continue their active relationship with their primary care physicians, specialists, and surgeons to ensure their overall health is not impaired because of fear or neglect. Your physicians and other health professionals are eager to help and guide you using the skills and dedication with which they have been trained and to reassure you that their clinical settings are well modified to meet mandated safety guidelines. If patients are considering delaying care, then they should consult with their physician first. Primary care physicians and pediatricians will not only provide patients with guidance on what care is appropriate to delay, but can also ensure that they are in optimum health and lessen their chances of developing COVID-19 complications.

Editor’s Comments, All I have to say is man it’s tough out there. If we all stay together, stay healthy and practice new social ways we will make it through this. Over the last six months we have been meeting new business owners and surrounding community residence all over the valley. If we missed you, we will reach out and catch up to you sooner or later or just give us a call we would like to meet you. Most of the people are friendly and outgoing. I want to thank all the business owners for letting us walk into your door and especially the ones that could see what this could do for their business. Ancala and McDowell Mountains Magazines, annual reports, collateral and brochures was created and is being generated by In Creative, PR, Marketing, and innovative, Interactive mobile web Solutions. In’s online magazines and more mission is to provide wealth an awareness back to the community and provide contributions to charities, schools, kids and those in needs.
