Meet Anchal Artisan Gulshan, A mother of three without a formal education, Gulshan was determined to provide a better life for her family. Gulshan joined Anchal’s program in 2013 and after 2 years of dedication and hard work, she quickly progressed to a leadership position. Gulshan is now proud to call herself a Project Assistant where she trains other artisans, designs the product compositions, cuts materials and manages product distribution. Coming to the office daily and building relationships with the other women is what Gulshan likes best about the program. “After Anchal I realized that I was not alone. I like working with only women, we teach each other to be strong and confident.” Gulshan says she owes her confidence to Anchal and its various interventions that focus not only on giving them economic empowerment, but also to help them discover their hidden strengths. She took advantage of the design and stress management workshops to change her life. Gulshan is currently using her earnings for her children’s education and is saving money for a new home. Now Gulshan is not only able to provide for herself and her family, but she is learning that life can be enjoyable when she has sustainable work. She shared her pride in knowing that her work is being purchased around the world & thanks those who support her journey. “Anchal has given us a great feeling of being strong. We have developed a sense of self belief and we realize that we can never go back to that stage of being helpless and being exploited.”
