Of Such Is the Kingdom
A Practical Theology of Disability BY SUMMER KINARD
Disability is not a boundary to holiness, because God is with us. But it can sometimes be an obstacle to full participation in the life of the Church, simply because many do not understand what is needed to help people with disabilities overcome any physical, mental, or interpersonal challenges they may face in church and in leading an Orthodox Christian life. This book addresses the question from theological, practical, and experiential perspectives, giving individuals and families with disabilities the opportunity to voice their needs and suggest some things the rest of us can do to make them welcome in the household of God. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 296 pages 9781944967611—$18.95
Summer Kinard As an autistic mother rearing autistic children in the Faith, Summer Kinard knows firsthand many of the challenges of life with disabilities. She brings her extensive background in patristic theology and catechesis (B.A. in religion, M.Div., Th.M. in early church history and theology) to skillfully weave together the healing patterns of Holy Tradition with the daily patterns of life with disabilities. Summer has become acquainted with hundreds of Orthodox families with disabilities through sharing on her website the resources she has developed to make faith accessible to them. At a time when at least twenty percent of people live with disabilities and two percent are autistic, there is an urgent need to apply church teachings to questions about the care and inclusion of persons with disabilities as full members of Christ’s Body. Summer brings the grace, kindness, and insight of an experienced teacher and mother to begin answering those questions. Summer Kinard is a Greek Orthodox Christian in the Metropolis of Denver. She lives with her husband Andrew and five children in Texas.

10 The Holy Angels
BY MOTHER ALEXANDRA
First published in 1981 and long out of print, The Holy Angels has yet to be surpassed as a comprehensive and comprehensible account of the nature of the angels and their role in our salvation. In layperson’s terms, Mother Alexandra presents the essence of everything the Church has to teach us about the angels, beginning with the Old Testament, continuing through the New Testament, and concluding with the Tradition of the Church as expressed in her theology, hymnography, and iconography. For those who long to become better acquainted with these holy servants of God and to understand their role in our lives, this book is a great place to start. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 304 pages 9781944967772—$19.95
Mother Alexandra was born Princess Ileana in Bucharest, Romania, in 1909. During the Second World War, she raised a family while nursing the sick and wounded and serving her people in any way possible. As a member of the royal family, she was exiled by the communist regime and eventually settled in America, where she supported her family by doing lecture tours in which she warned of the dangers of communism. Once her children were grown and settled, she was tonsured a monastic and founded the Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, where she reposed in 1991.

The Age of Paradise
Christendom from Pentecost to the First Millennium BY JOHN STRICKLAND
“Before there was a West, there was Christendom. This book tells the story of how both came to be.” (from the Introduction) The Age of Paradise is the first of a projected four-volume history of Christendom, a civilization with a supporting culture that gave rise to what we now call the West. At a time of renewed interest in the future of Western culture, author John Strickland—an Orthodox scholar, professor, and priest—offers a vision rooted in the deep past of the first millennium. At the heart of his story is the early Church’s “culture of paradise,” an experience of the world in which the kingdom of heaven was tangible and familiar. Drawing not only on worship and theology but statecraft and the arts, the author reveals the remarkably affirmative character Western culture once had under the influence of Christianity—in particular, of Eastern Christendom, which served the West not only as a cradle but as a tutor and guardian as well. Paperback 6 X 9, 304 pages, plus an 8-page photo section 9781944967567—$20.95
John Strickland is an Orthodox priest and former college professor. His first book, The Making of Holy Russia, is a study of the resilience of Christianity in the modern world. An active blogger and podcaster, he brings to the present work a lifetime of reflection on the religious background of the West. He lives in western Puget Sound with his wife and five children.

12 Raising Them Right
A Saint’s Advice on Raising Children BY SAINT THEOPHAN THE RECLUSE
Saint Theophan, while from a different era and country, has an uncanny ability to communicate with modern Westerners. Raising Them Right provides both practical and spiritual insight into a variety of areas of concern to parents, such as baptism, guiding the spiritual and psychological development of children through their teens, and preserving grace in a child’s life. A fresh redesign of a spiritual classic. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 96 pages 9780962271304—$12.95
Theophan the Recluse was born in 1815 in Chernavsk, Russia. After completing a theological education, Theophan took monastic vows and was ordained to the priesthood. In 1859, he was consecrated as a bishop, serving first in Tambov, then later in the diocese of Vladimir. Although a kindly bishop and a good administrator, Bishop Theophan grew increasingly weary of public office, and he longed to lead a life of prayer and seclusion. In 1866 he resigned from his active work of diocesan administration and retired to a remote monastery hidden in the great forests at Vyshen. Here he was to remain in seclusion until his death twenty-eight years later. After six years as abbot of the monastery and being an active part of the monastic services, in 1872 Theophan became a recluse. He remained strictly secluded, never going outside his cell, seeing no one but his confessor and the superior of his monastery. As a recluse for the rest of his life, Theophan devoted himself to prayer and asceticism, to correspondence, and to literary work.
Out of Step with God
Orthodox Christian Reflections on the Book of Numbers BY PATRICK HENRY REARDON
Many modern readers think of the Book of Numbers with a groan. And it does begin slowly, with several chapters detailing the census of Israel. But once we get past those chapters, Numbers becomes a thrilling narrative of Israel’s journey through the desert as well as a cautionary tale about how not to respond to the saving mercies of God. Fr. Patrick Reardon’s chapter-by-chapter analysis will help the reader glean the greatest possible profit from this oft-neglected book. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 168 pages 9781944967666—$13.95
Patrick Henry Reardon is pastor of All Saints' Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois, and a senior editor of Touchstone. He is the author of Christ in the Psalms and Christ in His Saints, in addition to the books in the Orthodox Christian Reflections Bible Commentary series. He has also written more than 500 articles, editorials, and reviews, published in Books and Culture, Touchstone, The Scottish Journal of Theology, The Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Pro Ecclesia, St. Vladimir's Theological Quarterly, and other journals on three continents.

A Living Continuity with the Synagogue, the Temple, and the Early Church BY BENJAMIN D. WILLIAMS AND HAROLD B. ANSTALL
Ancient Faith has produced a fresh update and redesign of a book cherished by a generation of seekers. Early Christians preserved a continuity of worship from the Old Covenant to the New, employing elements from the Jewish Temple liturgy, the synagogue liturgy, and the rituals of the Jewish home. The book shows how divinely revealed Old Testament worship is not only continued but also fulfilled in the Orthodox liturgy. A line-by-line explanation of the liturgy is included. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 200 pages 9781944967543—$17.95
Benjamin D. Williams holds a Master of Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary (1979). He has served in various facets of Christian ministry, including pastor, cantor, prison chaplain, and parish council chairman. He has been actively involved in the founding of three mission parishes and was ordained as a Reader (OCA) in 1994. He has served in various leadership roles in nonprofit organizations, and has conducted leadership development seminars for the past twenty years.
Harold B. Anstall, M.D. The late Harold B. Anstall was, until his retirement, Professor of Pathology at the University of Utah Medical Center and author of many scientific books and publications. He was also a lay theologian in the area of liturgical worship and liturgical theology, part of a venerable tradition in the Eastern Orthodox Churches. Harry regularly taught adult education classes, particularly in the area of liturgics, over the years in various Orthodox churches in Salt Lake City, UT.

14 Songs of Praise
A Psalter Devotional for Orthodox Women BY SYLVIA LEONTARITIS
“A psalm is a city of refuge from the demons, a means of inducing help from the angels, a weapon in fears by night, a rest from toils by day, a safeguard for infants, an adornment for those at the height of their vigor, a consolation for the elders, a most fitting ornament for women.” —St. Basil the Great
If you want to make the Psalter a more integral part of your life—either on your own or as part of a Psalter group—Songs of Praise is the perfect aid. It includes the full text of the Ancient Faith Psalter (with wide margins for note-taking). Each kathisma is followed by a reflection from popular Orthodox Mom blogger Sylvia Leontaritis plus several blank pages for journaling. Read, reflect, and journal your way through the Psalter this Advent or Lent and let its holy words sink into your soul. Paperback 5.5 X 8.5, 400 pages 9781944967529—$29.95
Sylvia Leontaritis is an Orthodox wife, mother, and author. She’s loved words since she was old enough to string them together, and when her second-grade teacher taped her story to the blackboard, she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. When she’s not writing, Sylvia can usually be found knitting, baking with her boys, or hiding in their treehouse. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, three sons, and their pet hedgehog. She is currently working on her next project, a middle-grade adventure series for Orthodox kids. You can find her blogging at Adventures of an Orthodox Mom (www.orthodoxmom.com).

In this posthumous collection of poet and teacher Donald Sheehan’s reflections on Psalms and psalmic prayer, culled from his journals and teaching notes, you will find two quite different kinds of writing working in tandem: poetic and personal journaling by a man of faith, a scholar, a linguist, and, in the deepest sense, a teacher; alongside scholarly linguistic and poetic analysis by a man steeped in poetry who thought like a poet. Paperback 9781944967680
Donald Sheehan, born in 1940, was first and foremost a teacher. He held a Ph.D. (1968) in English (with a minor in Italian) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he was also Managing Editor of Wisconsin Studies in Contemporary Literature. He taught in the English Dept. at the University of Chicago (1967–72) and Franconia (NH) College (1973–78); Latin at Plymouth (NH) State College (approx. 1979–88); English and writing at the University of New Hampshire adult degree program (approx. 1990–2000); and freshman and graduate English and Classics at Dartmouth College (1989–2004). He directed the Robert Frost Place Center for Poetry and the Arts in Franconia NH (1978–2005), where he created and managed a now internationally acclaimed poetry writing program. He became Orthodox in 1984 and spent the rest of his life revising all of his understanding and teaching to accord with his Orthodox understanding, managing to do this in settings that one would not expect to be accepting of such understanding. Along the way he taught himself Classical Greek and Biblical Hebrew, then LXX Greek. Donald reposed in 2010 in Charleston, SC.

MORNING PRAYERS
PRAYER?
Before praying, stand quietly in front of an icon or a cross and take a few deep breaths. Quiet your mind and your body, then cross yourself as you begin to pray.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. —ph i l i ppi an s

O Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who are in all places and fill all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of Life: Come and dwell in us, cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O good One.
Prayer is talking to God and listening while God talks to us. It’s reaching our minds and hearts out to the Creator of the universe and being in conversation with Him. We pray because we want to be with God and know Him better. We pray because He loves us more than we can imagine and we want to love Him back.

Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
Prayer can be as small as saying “Lord, have mercy” when we are sad. Prayer can be as big as staying up all night and reading through the whole Book of Psalms!

If they see you repenting with love they will be drawn to it.”—Fr. Noah Bushelli

26 The Cross and the Stag
The Incredible Adventures of St. Eustathius BY GABRIEL WILSON
He lost his wealth. He lost his family. He lost his station. He endured it all, to gain everything. Roman Commander Placidas was a man of great power and influence. He and his family wanted for little, yet he knew there had to be more to life. Once baptized into the Christian faith as Eustathius, he faced trials beyond anything he had ever experienced on the battlefield. His faith was challenged, but that same faith gained him eternal life. Meet this great man in Ancient Faith Publishing’s first graphic novel—the first in our Among the Saints series— written to inspire both children and adults. Ages 7 and up Paperback 7 X 10, 56 pages ISBN 9781944967598—$12.95
F RO M A R E V I E W:
“Perhaps I’m not the only mother of a child who struggled to read, nor the only [one] to find that graphic novels, comics, and Big Nate style hybrid books were part of the key to helping such a child to ease into reading, spurred on by visual story to decode the text that would give the key to understanding. . . . As a mother raising six children, I am so incredibly grateful for every tool available to teach my kids about the heroes of our faith. Finishing the book in one sitting, my eleven year old wrote out his thoughts, among them: ‘Never give up God, even in the hardest times. It’s hard for me to find God when I miss a playdate or something, but St. Eustathius lost his cattle, servants, grain, and got his wife taken away from him. He thought his kids were dead, but he kept praying to God.’ What a powerful example of perseverance for all of us to aspire to!” —Sarah G.

Gabriel Wilson grew up in a rural, wooded area of Indiana, playing with homemade bow and arrows and wooden swords with his brothers. Currently, Gabe and his wife and three daughters live near his childhood home, in a 100-year-old, fixer-upper house that is the subject of many of his woodworking projects. In his free time, he’s a novice skateboarder, enjoys making homemade tacos with his wife, and sketching with his daughters. Graphic novels are his favorite form of artwork and aside from his comics based on the lives of saints, he has other secular novels in the works.

toward the refectory when she had an idea. I could spy on Macrina, she thought gleefully. I could hide in the bushes and see what she does! Grace waited a few more seconds until Macrina reached a bend in the path. Then she skidded across the frosty grass and flopped down beside a large bush. She peered through the pricker-spiked branches and saw Macrina, still walking along the path with her nose in the air. Grace was sure she was talking to herself. Grace counted to three and stood up. She picked out another bush on the other side of the path, just a little farther on. Macrina was still walking. Grace charged across the path and flung herself down behind her chosen bush. This one had only a few spindly branches. It was not a good hiding place.

The Barn and the Book Sam wants to know if animals (especially Saucer!) can speak at midnight on Christmas Eve. Grace and Macrina are competing to write a story, and Elias is losing his patience. Meanwhile, Sister Anna hopes God will rescue her from teaching Sunday school. Christmas is coming, but hearts are full of secrets and frustrations. The Barn and the Book is a story about the traps we build when we try to see in the dark. We tumble into trouble and confusion on our own, but God can steer us clear of our traps and shine His kindly light into our darkness. COMING SOON . . . Laurel and the Wind
BY GAELAN GILBERT, ILLUSTRATED BY NED GANNON
At night, the wind blows through the rigging of the boat where Laurel lives. Sweet aromas float across the water and surprise her—as though they’d traveled from another land. One night, Laurel is transported across the water to an ancient world of mystery. In this gorgeously illustrated and poetically written story, you will discover the wonder of Byzantium’s capital city, Constantinople, at the height of its glory. At the center is the magnificent church of Holy Wisdom, where the worship of God unfolds in splendor while the wind dances through the trees. This book will cultivate in the young a taste for the mystical, and rekindle wonder in adult readers. In the waking dreams of a single little girl, this edifying tale explores in an alluring whirlwind both the power of remembrance and the beauty of truth, all centered around Christ’s glorious resurrection. A Child’s Guide to Prayer
COMPILED AND EDITED BY ANCIENT FAITH PUBLISHING ILLUSTRATED BY TARA PAPPAS
A Child’s Guide to Prayer is a beautifully illustrated prayer book for Orthodox Christian children aged 5-10 who are just developing a habit of prayer. The selection includes morning and evening prayers, prayers during the day, at mealtimes, for family and friends, and prayers of and to the saints—along with psalms to pray and prayers that have to do with communion and confession. All the prayers were carefully selected by priests and youth workers to ensure their age-appropriateness. The 120-page guide also includes brief instructions on how to pray, why we pray, and a list of different ways to pray. The book concludes with several blank pages for personal prayer requests. Ages 5 to 10, Paperback, 4.75 X 6, 120 pages
