B R A H A M lived in the land of Ur until God called him to move to a new land. Abraham trusted God and set out on the journey with his wife, Sarah, and his nephew, Lot. God made a covenant with Abraham and promised to give him land and as many descendants as stars in the sky. God then led Abraham to the land of Canaan. When Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90, they received three visitors who told them that Abraham and Sarah would soon have a son. That son, Isaac, was born, bringing

Devoted to Christ, St. Christina wore white to show she was a bride of heaven.
Tyre is located in the southern part of modern-day Lebanon.
St. Christina took an axe and destroyed the idols her father had placed in her apartment. She had her servants give the gold and silver to the poor.
FA S C I N AT I N G FAC TS St. Christina was thrown into the sea with a stone tied around her neck. However, God protected her, and she walked on water. Three separate attempts were made to execute her.
After the saint’s death, a Christian uncle buried her body, preserving her holy relics.

Presbytera Sarah Wright is an Orthodox Christian, wife, mother of three, and teacher. As a teacher, the highlight of her job is helping kids get hooked on reading. She hopes to write books that will encourage that love of reading and, more importantly, a love for Christ and His Church. T. C O N S TAN T IN E was the son of St. Helen and of Constantius Chlorus, ruler over Great Britain, Gaul, and Spain. When St. Constantine was a young boy, Emperor Diocletian ordered his father to divorce his mother in order to marry a woman of greater rank. Young Constantine then went to live in Emperor Diocletian’s court. There he became a mighty warrior and was eventually named emperor over the western half of the Roman Empire. Not everyone was happy about this arrangement, so St. Constantine prepared for battle. While marching his army, he had a vision in which he saw Christ and heard His voice saying, “In this sign shall you conquer.” It was the
sign of Christ! The next morning, St. Constantine replaced the eagle with the Chi-Rho as the symbol of his troops. God gave him victory, and he signed the Edict of Milan, which allowed Christians to freely practice their faith. Later, St. Helen went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where Christ had lived. There, she found precious relics and established churches over holy sites, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which was built on the Tomb of Christ. St. Helen established the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
According to tradition, St. Helen discovered the Cross that Christ was crucified upon when she visited the Holy Land and smelled sweet basil. We celebrate this event in the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
FA S C I N AT I N G FAC TS Some sources claim St. Helen was a British princess, while others say she was the daughter of an innkeeper. According to tradition, when she met Constantius Chlorus, they were drawn to each other after they noticed they were wearing the same silver bracelet.
St. Constantine called the Council of Nicaea to address the heresy of Arianism. This was the first time that bishops from the entire Church met to make important decisions about the Faith. Some came from as far away as Britain and India!
S
T S . C O S M A S AN D D A M IAN were brothers born to a pagan father and Christian mother in the early days of the Church. Their mother, St. Theodota, instructed them in the Faith and encouraged them in their studies. Both boys were very intelligent and studied medicine. After their parents’ deaths, they lived extremely frugally off the estate, refusing to take money from their patients. Sts. Cosmas and Damian are referred to as “holy unmercenaries” because they used their medical knowledge to heal the sick out of a love for God and for their neighbors, without asking for payment. Because of their selfless service and faith in God, they were beloved by

the people. Some versions of their story state that Sts. Cosmas and Damian died peacefully in the early fourth century, inspiring others to follow their examples as holy unmercenaries.
Sts. Cosmas and Damian were wonderworkers, meaning that they performed healing miracles through their great faith in God. Sts. Cosmas and Damian regularly prayed to God while they treated their patients and brought many to the Faith.
Constantinople (now called Istanbul) is in modern-day Turkey.
Because of his faith, St. Constantine abolished the sentence of death by crucifixion and ended all gladiator contests. It is debated whether Constantine saw in his vision the Chi-Rho or the sign of the Cross. The Chi-Rho is the first two letters of Christ’s name in Greek.

The saints, in their compassion, even tended and healed animals.
The region of Cilicia is located in modern-day southern Turkey, inland from the Mediterranean Sea.
FA S C I N AT I N G FAC TS There are recorded stories of two other pairs of brothers who bear the same names and are regarded as holy unmercenaries by the Church. Their stories are similar, but not the same. One set of brothers was born of wealthy Roman parents, lived holy lives, and were martyred for the Faith in the late third century. The final pair lived in Arabia and were also martyred around the same time.
Sts. Cosmas and Damian followed Christ’s command, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).

The Boxer Rebellion (1899–1901) was an anti-foreign and anti-Christian uprising in China. Because of the misery brought on by years of severe flooding, famine, and drought, the Chinese government killed tens of thousands of foreigners, Christians, and other Chinese, blaming them for the country’s hardships.
Their other son, John, age 7, was tortured. He felt no pain, and when his torturers called him “son of demons,” he replied, “I am a believer in God and not a disciple of demons!”

While locked away, St. Christina marveled at the natural world outside her windows. She reasoned that idols made of wood and gold could not have created such beauty.

T. C HR I S TI N A was the daughter of Urban, the governor of Tyre. He wished for her to be a priestess. But she was beautiful and already had many suitors, so when she was 11, he locked her in a cloistered apartment with two servants. Her father had many idols placed in the dwelling; however, God’s grace led the saint to discern the true God, the Creator of all. An angel came to instruct her in the mysteries of the Faith and traced the sign of the cross over her. She began to live a life of prayer and fasting. Enraged, her father ordered her to be tormented in the hopes that she would renounce her Christian

Christ, others bravely endured their tortures. The Boxers took 222 of the faithful Christians outside the city, where they were either burned to death or beheaded. Among the martyrs were the first Chinese priest, Fr. Mitrophanes (who had been ordained by St. Nicholas of Japan), his wife, Tatiana, and two of their sons, Isaiah and John.
FA S C I N AT I N G FAC TS The Romans tried to burn the body of St. Adrian, but God sent a heavy rain that doused the fire. A Christian named Eusebius saved the relics, burying them near the city of Byzantium.
After St. Adrian’s death, a powerful general wanted to marry St. Natalia. She asked St. Adrian’s intercession to help her escape the city so she could remain faithful to their marriage.

N THE YE AR 1900, about 1,000 Orthodox Christians lived in Peking, China. The empress Tzu Hsi, afraid of foreign influences within China, believed the Christians were partially responsible for China’s problems. She declared that people should massacre the Christians. On the night of June 11, the Boxers (a secret martial arts society which supported the empress) patrolled the city and arrested all the Orthodox Christians they could find, including those who tried to hide them. Whenever Abraham moved or something big happened in his life, he immediately built an altar and worshipped God before doing anything else.
Abraham and Sarah were considered too old to have children, but God worked a miracle so that they could have Isaac. This foreshadows other elderly couples who bore children for God’s glory, such as Zachariah and Elizabeth, and Joachim and Anna.
St. Natalia held St. Adrian’s hand even as the executioner cut it off. She managed to save the hand by hiding it in her clothing.

Entering his house, Natalia called him a coward, quoting a passage from the Gospel of Matthew: “Whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (10:33). But when he explained why he was there, St. Natalia hugged him and said she would stay with him until the end. He was martyred with the 23 others, and St. Natalia lived with a group of devout women near his burial site until her own death.

he rain lasted on and off all that night and the next day until after supper. In the afternoon, when the Pittsburgh cousins had come back to Gramgon’s, the four girls were sitting on the porch, longing for the rain to stop. Rachael quoted bitterly, “The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play . . .” And Naomi improvised, “so we sat on the porch all that cold, cold, wet day. . . .” Then, along came TJ, walking three dogs in the pouring rain, and Katie waved at him. He shouted “Hi!” and tried to wave back (with three leashes in his hand). The bulldog got loose, and he had to chase after it in the mud, carrying the Chihuahua and dragging the corgi behind him. The girls tried not to laugh. Maybe they couldn’t do much outside because of the weather, but at least there had been some entertainment. Katie was sorry there had been no time for introductions. On Wednesday, the cousins were together yet again, and it was hot and brilliantly sunny. In fact, all eleven cousins were together, because Auntie Joelle, who lived close to Aunt Alex, also came to visit, bringing Sophie, who was terribly two, and Andrew, who was very little. Before long, though, the reunion was spoiled. “Girls, look at this mess!” Aunt Alex pointed to the front

O Comforter, Spirit of Truth, who are in all places and fill all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of Life: Come and dwell in us, cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O good One.
Prayer is talking to God and listening while God talks to us. It’s reaching our minds and hearts out to the Creator of the universe and being in conversation with Him. We pray because we want to be with God and know Him better. We pray because He loves us more than we can imagine and we want to love Him back.

PRAYERS
Before praying, stand quietly in front of an icon or a cross and take a few deep breaths. Quiet your mind and your body, then cross yourself as you begin to pray.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Arise, O God
The Gospel of Christ’s Defeat of Demons, Sin, and Death
BY FR. ANDREW STEPHEN DAMICK The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about what Jesus can do for your life. It is not even the answer to the question, “How can I be saved?” It is the declaration of a victory. In His coming to earth, His suffering, and His Resurrection, Christ conquered demons, sin, and death. In Arise, O God, author and podcaster Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick introduces us to the spiritual war that Christ won by His victory, how we are caught in that war’s cosmic crossfire, what the true content of the gospel is—and how we are to respond. God Is a Man of War
The Problem of Violence in the Old Testament
BY REV. DR. STEPHEN DE YOUNG Infanticide. Holy war. Divine wrath. Violence in the Old Testament has long been a stumbling block for Christians and skeptics alike. Yet conventional efforts to understand this violence— whether by downplaying it as allegory or a relic of primitive cultures, or by dismissing the authority of Scripture altogether—tend to raise more questions than they answer. God Is a Man of War offers a fresh interpretation of Old Testament accounts of violence by exploring them through the twofold lens of Orthodox tradition and historical context. Father Stephen De Young examines what these difficult passages reveal about the nature of Christ and His creation, bearing witness to a world filled not only with pain and suffering—often of human making—but also with the love of God. Paperback 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", 168 pages ISBN 9781955890045—$13.95
Father Stephen De Young is the pastor of Archangel Gabriel Antiochian Orthodox Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Amridge University and is the host of The Whole Counsel of God podcast and co-host of the Lord of Spirits podcast on Ancient Faith Radio. He is also the author of The Whole Counsel blog on the Ancient Faith Ministries website. For years Fr. Stephen has been teaching the Bible by taking ideas current in biblical scholarship and explaining them to laypeople to make both those ideas and the Scriptures more accessible.

The Religion of the Apostles
Orthodox Christianity in the First Century
BY REV. DR. STEPHEN DE YOUNG In this comprehensive theology, Fr. Dr. Stephen De Young, creator of the popular The Whole Counsel blog and podcast, traces the lineage of early Christianity from the rituals and worldview of the Jewish faithful prior to the birth of Christ to early Christian thought and practice, and finally to the Orthodox Christian Church. The life of the Orthodox Church is a direct continuation into the present day of the religious life of the apostles, who did not see themselves as founders of a new religion. Instead, they integrated their firsthand experiences of Jesus Christ into their existing religious understanding and worldview, transforming them in terms of fulfillment, not correction. Organized thematically, The Religion of the Apostles connects the apostolic, New Testament historical context to the writings of the Church Fathers, the liturgical texts and practices of the Orthodox Church, and other ancient texts. Paperback, 5-1/2" X 8-1/2", 320 pages ISBN 9781944967550—$19.95
Thinking Orthodox
Understanding and Acquiring the Orthodox Christian Mind
BY DR. EUGENIA SCARVELIS CONSTANTINOU What does it mean to “think Orthodox”? What are the unspoken and unexplored premises and presumptions underlying what Christians believe? Orthodox Christianity is based on preserving the mind of the early Church, its phronema. Dr. Jeannie Constantinou brings her more than forty years’ experience as a professor, Bible teacher, and speaker to bear in explaining what the Orthodox phronema is, how it can be acquired, and how that phronema is expressed in true Orthodox theology—as practiced by those who are properly qualified by both training and a deep relationship with Christ. Paperback 6" X 9", 400 pages ISBN 9781944967703—$22.95
Dr. Eugenia Constantinou hosts the popular podcast Search the Scriptures Live! on Ancient Faith Radio. When You Fast
The Why and How of Christian Self-Discipline
BY L. JOSEPH LETENDRE In this companion volume to the popular When You Pray, L. Joseph Letendre explores the underpinnings of the Church’s practice of fasting and of ascetic discipline in general. Rather than being preoccupied with the details of food regulations, he helps the reader understand the purpose of fasting and how to enter into it more willingly and fully. Paperback 4-1/2" X 7", 104 pages ISBN 9781944967970—$12.95
ALSO BY L. JOSEPH LETENDRE When You Pray
A Practical Guide to an Orthodox Life of Prayer
Anyone who prays, or has tried to pray and given up in discouragement, knows praying—really praying—is not easy. Praying consistently seems almost impossible. Too often and too easily, prayer becomes a burden: one more item on an already overcrowded to-do list. Failing to pray becomes a source of guilt and stress as we must once again admit our inconstancy and procrastination to our father confessor. Yet, our Lord said, “Come to me, all of you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. My burden is easy and my yoke is light” (Matt. 11:30). The purpose of this book, then, is not to add to the burden, but to ease it by distilling the advice and experience of those who pray. Paperback, 4-1/2" X 7", 72 pages, 9781944967239—$9.95

Big in Heaven
A Collection of Short Stories
BY STEPHEN SINIARI “[These] stories begin to paint a new kind of Icon, that of a truly American Orthodox Christian, of regular people simply trying to be or tragically rejecting being regular human beings, the kind of people perhaps never even imagined by most American readers. . . . The stories break the mold of what a religious or non-religious story ought to be. They are not moralistic, nor are they irreverent in their honest portrayal of the realities of life in the Church. Rather they are just good, honest stories, and in being this they are sacramental, conveying and holding together elements of life that are seemingly disparate.” (from the Foreword) Sometimes poignant, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes convicting, these stories of life in an inner-city immigrant Orthodox parish are guaranteed to shake your assumptions and make you see your life and faith in a new way. They are not for the faint of heart—but they are very much for all who want to embrace the truth more fully. Fiction for adults Paperback, 5-1/2" X 8-1/2", 256 pages ISBN 9781944967574—$17.95

Seven Holy Women
Conversations with Saints and Friends
CONTRIBUTING AUTHORS: MELINDA JOHNSON, LAURA JANSSON, GEORGIA BRIGGS, MOLLY SABOURIN, ANNA NEILL, KATHERINE BOLGER HYDE, MELISSA NAASKO, AND SUMMER KINARD Written by a group of friends, Seven Holy Women is a one-of-a-kind journey into the lives of seven women saints. Created as both a deeply personal and enriching communal experience, Seven Holy Womenspeaks directly to the reader, drawing her into the lives of seven saints as it invites her to look more closely and lovingly at her own spiritual journey and her friendship with the cloud of witnesses. Songs of Praise
A Psalter Devotional for Orthodox Women
BY SYLVIA LEONTARITIS “A psalm is a city of refuge from the demons, a means of inducing help from the angels, a weapon in fears by night, a rest from toils by day, a safeguard for infants, an adornment for those at the height of their vigor, a consolation for the elders, a most fitting ornament for women.” -St. Basil the Great If you want to make the Psalter a more integral part of your life—either on your own or as part of a Psalter group—Songs of Praise is the perfect aid. It includes the full text of the Ancient Faith Psalter (with wide margins for note-taking). Each kathisma is followed by a reflection from popular Orthodox Mom blogger Sylvia Leontaritis plus several blank pages for journaling. Read, reflect, and journal your way through the Psalter and let its holy words sink into your soul. Paperback 6" X 9", 384 pages ISBN 9781944967529—$29.95
Sylvia Leontaritis is an Orthodox wife, mother, and author. She's loved words since she was old enough to string them together, and when her second-grade teacher taped her story to the blackboard, she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. When she's not writing, Sylvia can usually be found knitting, baking with her boys, or hiding in their treehouse. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, three sons, and their pet hedgehog. She is currently working on her next project, a middle-grade adventure series for Orthodox kids. You can find her blogging at orthodoxmom.com.

This journal contains an inspiring quotation for each day of the year, plus space to record brief thanksgivings for three years in a row. With a consistent practice of giving specific thanks to God each day of the year, you will see your life transformed. J a n u a ry 00 2

ust as athletes win crowns by their struggles in the arena, so are Christians brought to perfection by the trial of their temptations, if only we learn to accept what the Lord sends us with patience, with all thanksgiving. All things are ordained by the Lord’s love. (s t . b a s i l

The Shield of Psalmic Prayer
Reflections on Translating, Interpreting, and Praying the Psalter
BY DONALD SHEEHAN COMPILED AND EDITED BY XENIA SHEEHAN In this posthumous collection of poet and teacher Donald Sheehan’s reflections on Psalms and psalmic prayer, culled from his journals and teaching notes, you will find two quite different kinds of writing working in tandem: poetic and personal journaling by a man of faith, a scholar, a linguist, and, in the deepest sense, a teacher; alongside scholarly linguistic and poetic analysis by a man steeped in poetry who thought like a poet. Paperback, 6" X 9", 368 pages ISBN 9781944967680—$19.95
Donald Sheehan Born in 1940, Donald Sheehan received a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he was also Managing Editor of Wisconsin Studies in Contemporary Literature. He taught at the University of Chicago, Franconia (NH) College, Plymouth (NH) State College, and Dartmouth College. He concurrently directed the Robert Frost Place Center for Poetry and the Arts in Franconia, NH (1978–2005), creating and directing a now internationally acclaimed poetry writing program. After becoming an Orthodox Christian in 1984, he spent the rest of his life revising all of his understanding and teaching to accord with his new faith. Along the way he taught himself Classical Greek, Biblical Hebrew, and LXX Greek. Xenia Sheehan, born in 1941, holds a BA in Philosophy (Antioch College, 1963) and an MA in Counseling (Norwich University), and studied theology at St. Vladimir’s and St. Tikhon’s Seminaries. Syria Crucified
Stories of Modern Martyrdom in an Ancient Christian Land
BY ZACHARY WINGERD AND BRAD HOFF
Available MidNovember
The tragic war in Syria along with the plight of the Christians there remains among the most misunderstood situations in the world today. Syria Crucified seeks to contribute to better understanding in the West by giving a voice to individual Syrian Christians living in exile from their homeland. These men and women have undergone horrific trauma and loss without losing their faith in God or the ability to forgive their persecutors. Their firstperson accounts, framed by the authors’ narration for historical, cultural, and geopolitical context, are both edifying and inspiring. Paperback, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", 256 pages ISBN 9781955890038—$17.95
Brad Hoff served as an active-duty Marine through the early 2000s, watching with alarm the consequences of U.S. action abroad. After leaving the military, he began wandering around the Middle East, eventually adopting Damascus as his second home. After a decade-long teaching career, he turned to independent journalism, last embarking on a reporting trip to Syria at the height of the war. His work has been cited in multiple international publications. He resides in Waco with his wife, Reem, and children Sophia, Emilia, and Justinian. They attend St. Andrew Orthodox Church.
Zachary Wingerd, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer in history at Baylor University, where he teaches, among other courses, the history of the United States in Global Perspective. His first publication, Conversations of Modern World History: 50 Voices from 1400 to Present, emphasizes the role and perspective of the individual within a broad historical context. He lives with his wife, Lindsey, and five children, Joshua, Jonathan, Juliana, Genevieve, and Joseph, in Waco, Texas, where they attend St. Andrew Orthodox Church.

The Age of Utopia
Available MidNovember
Christendom from the Renaissance to the Russian Revolution (Paradise & Utopia, Volume 3)
BY FR. JOHN STRICKLAND
Continuing the epic of Christendom told in earlier volumes, the author explains how, between the Italian Renaissance of the fourteenth century and the Russian Revolution of the twentieth, secular humanism displaced Christianity to become the source of modern culture. The result was some of the most illustrious music, science, philosophy, and literature ever produced. But the cultural reorientation from paradise to utopia—from an experience of the kingdom of heaven to one bound exclusively by this world—all but eradicated the traditional culture of the West, leaving it at the beginning of the twentieth century without roots in anything transcendent. Paperback 6" x 9”, 416 pages, plus a separate 8-page color photo section ISBN 9781955890052—$22.95
Father John Strickland is an Orthodox priest and former college professor. His first book, The Making of Holy Russia, is a study of the resilience of Christianity in the modern world. The first volume of the present work, The Age of Paradise, was published by Ancient Faith Publishing in 2019. An active blogger and podcaster, John brings to this series a lifetime of reflection on the religious background of the West. He lives in western Puget Sound with his wife and five children.

The Age of Division
Christendom from the Great Schism to the Protestant Reformation (Paradise & Utopia, Volume 2)
If you have ever wondered exactly how we got from the Christian society of the early centuries, united in its faithfulness to apostolic tradition, to the fragmented and secular state of the West today, The Age of Division will answer all your questions and more. In this second volume of the author’s projected volume four-volume cultural history of Christendom, author John Strickland applies insights from the Orthodox Church to trace the decline and disintegration of both East and West after the momentous but often neglected Great Schism. For five centuries, a divided Christendom was led further and further from the culture of paradise that defined its first millennium, resulting in the Protestant Reformation and the secularization that defines our society today. Paperback, 6" X 9", 360 pages plus a separate 8-page color photo section ISBN 9781944967864—$20.95

Apostle to the Plains
The Life of Father Nicola Yanney
BY THE SAINT RAPHAEL CLERGY BROTHERHOOD In 1892, a young man left his home in the coastal foothills of Lebanon in search of a better life. Coming to America with his newlywed wife, he found work as a traveling peddler before settling on a small farm in central Nebraska. Years later, personal tragedy and an unexpected midnight visit from a saint changed the course of his life. Seeing the desperate need of his fellow Orthodox Christians and heeding God’s call, he would spend the rest of his life traversing the Great Plains as a circuit-riding priest, known to his thousands of parishioners as Father Nicola Yanney. His legacy stands alongside that of St. Raphael Hawaweeny, his mentor, as a seminal force in the American Orthodox Church of our day. Paperback 5-1/2" X 8-1/2", 288 pages ISBN 9781944967659—$18.95

OUTSIDE OF TIME
St. Natalia was able to reunite St. Adrian’s hand with the rest of his body. Later, St. Adrian appeared to her in a shining vision and called her to God with him, and she peacefully died.

T. C O N S TAN T I N E was the son of St.
St. Constantine called the Council of Nicaea to address the heresy of Arianism. This was the first time that bishops from the entire Church met to make important decisions about the Faith. Some came from as far away as Britain and India!

FA S C I N AT I N G FAC TS Some sources claim St. Helen was a British princess, while others say she was the daughter of an innkeeper. According to tradition, when she met Constantius Chlorus, they were drawn to each other after they noticed they were wearing the same silver bracelet.
S
T S . C O S M A S AN D D A M I AN were brothers born to a pagan father and Christian mother in the early days of the Church. Because of their selfless service and faith in God, they were beloved by
Because of his faith, St.

20TH CENTURY • MODERN SAINTS
St. Natalia held St. Adrian’s hand even as the executioner cut it off. She managed to save the hand by hiding it in her clothing.
Sarah lived to be 127 years old, and Abraham lived to be 175.
Whenever Abraham moved or something big happened in his life, he immediately built an altar and worshipped God before doing anything else.
Abraham and Sarah were considered too old to have children, but God worked a miracle so that they could have Isaac. This foreshadows other elderly couples who bore children for God’s glory, such as Zachariah and Elizabeth, and Joachim and Anna.

return home to say goodbye to his wife.

CHURCH FATHERS & BUILDERS OF THE CHURCH
Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac, because Abraham loved God and had faith in God’s plan. Ur of the Chaldeans is located in modern-day Iraq. Canaan is in parts of modern-day Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and Syria.

When Emperor Diocletian heard that 23 Christians were hiding in a cave, he commanded that they be arrested and tortured. St. Adrian saw their suffering and asked why they chose to remain Christians. They told him of the Kingdom of God, and his soul was instantly illumined. He asked to be added to the list of Christians, and he was immediately handcuffed and imprisoned. When St. Natalia heard that her husband had been arrested for his faith, she went to the prison to encourage him. Later he was sentenced to death but was allowed to
