The Great Revolution Is Here

It was almost inevitable it would be Middle Eastern money, and lots of it on the table, that would revolutionise the world of top-level golf competition. In effect, they have turned the traditional global golf tours inside out, like a sock.

The multi-million-dollar league has transformed and disrupted the established competitions: neither the format is similar nor the spirit is the same. In addition to bringing together as many golf stars as possible in each of their events, they also aim to make their tournaments more fun, more exciting and more laidback for spectators. Every day is a show – a comprehensive and diverse experience.

LIV Golf has unquestionably set off an earthquake with its challenge to the two major circuits, the U.S. PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour). Sharp tensions have been generated, but in the long run they will have little choice but to accept and understand each other and to coexist as best they can.

What is clear for spectators – for those who follow golf live or on TV – is that, without this phenomenal Saudi commitment, it would be extremely difficult for us in Spain to have the chance to see players such as Sergio García, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Henrik Stenson and the recent winner of the PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka, in action in the same event.

LIV Golf Valderrama is going to be another catalyst for golf that, once again, is intimately associated with the renowned Sotogrande club. No-one should miss this “I was there” moment, the same as was the case with the Ryder Cup, the World Championships and the memorable era of the Volvo Masters.
