Llega por fin el LIV Golf a Valderrama en lo que se espera sea un grandioso espectáculo del mejor golf mundial. Y es que la actuación de muchas de las figuras del novedoso circuito en los dos primeros majors del año así lo atestigua.

No solo ha sido espectacular el triunfo de Brooks Koepka en el PGA Championship de Oak Hills, tras haber quedado segundo en el Masters de Augusta, sino que casi una veintena de jugadores de la LIV Golf League han participado, muchos con resultados sobresalientes, en las dos primeras citas de la temporada del Grand Slam. Phil Mickelson quedaba también segundo en el Augusta National, Bryson DeChambeau terminaba cuarto y Cameron Smith, noveno en el PGA Championship...

Está claro que, a pesar de las zancadillas que, sobre todo, le está poniendo el PGA Tour, el nuevo circuito dirigido por Greg Norman está dando la talla –y de qué forma– en el panorama del golf mundial. Los grandes jugadores que, libre y racionalmente y desoyendo las furibundas críticas de que fueron objeto desde el establishment y por parte de algunos destacados colegas, se enrolaron en el LIV Golf están demostrando que su juego se mantiene al sobresaliente nivel que exhibían cuando competían en el PGA Tour.

La LIV Golf League es un circuito de altísimo nivel que aporta frescura al panorama tradicional con su rompedor formato (54 hoyos, competición individual y por equipos, salidas al tiro) y la forma de hacer que los torneos trasciendan lo meramente deportivo y se conviertan en una experiencia inmersiva y participativa en múltiples actividades pensadas para el disfrute del espectador.

Las perfectas calles y greens del Real Club Valderrama volverán a revivir la gratísima experiencia de los grandes torneos que han hecho de este club –con todo merecimiento– el buque insignia del golf español. Mickelson, ganador de seis majors, retorna a Valderrama 24 años después de su última visita, el American Express World Golf Championship de 1999,

The Time Has Come

LIV Golf is finally set to arrive at Valderrama in what is expected to be a great showcase of the finest international golf. Top performance by many of the main stars of the new circuit in the first two majors of the year certainly attest to this.

Not only was Brooks Koepka’s triumph at the PGA Championship at Oak Hills spectacular, after he had finished second at the Masters, but nearly 20 players from the LIV Golf League also teed up in the opening events of the 2023 Grand Slam season, with many achieving their own outstanding results. Phil Mickelson also finished second at Augusta, while Bryson DeChambeau was fourth and Cameron Smith ninth in the PGA Championship.

It is clear that, despite obstacles that the PGA Tour (especially) is placing in its way, the new circuit led by Greg Norman is making its mark on the global golfing stage, and in what an impressive manner. The many great players who joined LIV Golf – freely and rationally, and ignoring furious criticism that they were subjected to from the establishment and from some prominent colleagues – are demonstrating that their games remain at the same outstanding levels they exhibited when previously competing on the PGA Tour.

The LIV Golf League is a high-level circuit that brings freshness to the traditional golfing scene with its groundbreaking format (54 holes, individual and team competitions, shotgun start) and by making sure tournaments transcend their merely sporting aspects and become an immersive and participatory experience highlighted by multiple activities designed for the enjoyment of spectators.

The meticulously maintained fairways and greens of Royal Valderrama will once again relive the memorial tournament moments that have made this club – deservedly so –the flagship of Spanish golf. Mickelson, the winner of six majors, returns to Valderrama 24 years after his last visit for the 1999 American Express World Golf Championship, which Tiger Woods won in a play-off against Miguel Ángel Jiménez. Mickelson had previously competed que ganó Tiger Woods en playoff a Miguel Ángel Jiménez. Así pues, del 30 de junio al 2 de julio, el fantástico recorrido diseñado por Robert Trent Jones será una fiesta que, si usted es amante del buen golf y tiene la ocasión de hacerlo, no debería perderse.

Tres meses después tendrá la oportunidad de ver en acción el mejor golf femenino de talla mundial gracias a la Solheim Cup en Finca Cortesín (23-26 de septiembre) y, como colofón al gran año golfístico costasoleño, el Open de España Femenino se disputará en Las Brisas (23-26 de noviembre). La Costa del Golf está donde realmente se merece.

Three months later you will have the opportunity to see the finest world-class women’s golf in action, thanks to the Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín (23-26 September). And, to round off what is a superb golf year on the Costa del Sol, the Spanish Women’s Open will be held at Las Brisas (23-26 November). The Costa del Golf is where it truly deserves to be – in the international golfing spotlight.
