JANA EMBUREY Jana Emburey was born in the former Czechoslovakia in 1979. She studied Theatrical Costume Design and Production in Bratislava, Slovakia. Jana moved to Britain in 1997 and in 2012 she completed her BA Hons in Visual Art in North Glasgow College. Subsequently she moved to Caithness where she worked in the St Fergus Gallery in Wick, the Lyth Arts Center as well as working as an artist. In the spring of 2017 Jana started to work as a full time artist and in the summer of the same year she moved to the countryside of the Badenoch and Strathspey area. Jana’s work mainly explores the concept of time perception, memory, inter-connectivity and human condition. Her work is informed by the close relationship of everything in nature, reflected and replicated in a multitude of ways. Although she likes to explore various concepts and media, the intricate ink drawings on Japanese paper, sometimes combined with painting is what she has been mostly concentrating on for the past few years, creating a body of work under the name of Sweet Oblivion. These delicate and labour intensive drawings represent humans as well as any other cells/particles found in nature and show the connection of everything around and within us. The works originally stemmed from the multiplication of microscopic cells, compared to the ever expanding growth of the human race. The titles of these works and the arrangements of the cells often give a clue to the state or behaviour of humans on mass or a grouping and movement of other cells or particles in nature. Jana has been showing work nationally and internationally for a number of years and her work can be found in many private and corporate collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
