Discover Your Ancestors Have you ever wanted to learn more about your family history? The library offers many ways to help you uncover your ancestors. Through databases such as Ancestry Library Edition, you can look up census records, passenger lists, birth and death records, and more. The South Carolina Room at the Anderson Main Library, which has been collecting genealogy and local history materials since 1906, houses published family histories, city directories, maps, newspapers on microfilm, genealogy guides, among many other resources. The SC Room staff also offer regular classes all year long on researching your family history. At 3:00pm on Sunday, May 19 at the Anderson Main Library, South Carolina Room librarian, Laura Holden, will guide you through the process of unlocking the secrets of your ancestors’ military service. For a basic overview of genea-

logical resources, there will be an introductory class on Wednesday, June 12 at 9:30am. To register for these classes or to get more info, call (864) 260-4500 ext. 130 or email scroom@andersonlibrary.org. Visit our website at www.andersonlibrary.org to see more upcoming family history classes. In addition to genealogical materials, the SC Room is also home to books about our region as well as works by local writers such as Bren McClain, Kathryn Smith, and Guy Davenport among others. If you would like to stop in and see all that the South Carolina Room at the Anderson County Main Library offers, it is open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 9pm, Friday from 9am to 6pm, Saturday from 9:30am to 6pm, and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.

All locations will be closed on Friday, May 10 for staff day and Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day. AUTHOR KELLY STARLING LYONS page 2
