Read For Fun, Read for Prizes!

The Summer Reading Challenge Returns June 14 through July 31! Summer Reading kicks off on Saturday, June 12 at the Anderson Main Library with special appearances by Reedy Rip’It, rabbits from TLC Rabbitry, and the Greenville Triumph. In between outdoor games for kids and maker crafts for adults, learn how to register for the Summer Reading Challenge. Tweens and teens can also learn more about the Move It challenge in partnership with AnMed Health, focusing on fun ways to get outside, get active, and have a chance to win a bicycle. Everyone can participate in the Summer Reading Challenge by reading for 35 days from June 14 to July 31. No library card is required; just remember to track your reading online at www.andersonlibrary.org or on the tracking sheets available from the library. Try reading for at least 20 minutes a day, which is the recommended daily reading to help stave off the effects of the “summer slide” for students. Children ages 12 and under who complete the challenge earn a certificate, medal, and voucher to a Greenville Drive game. Everyone who completes the challenge will be entered into grand prize drawings for their age category, including prizes from the Greenville Triumph. There’s more to do than just read this summer. This year’s theme is Tails and Tales and summer activities are going wild. The Wildlife Geeks will have exotic rescue animals on June 16th at the Watkins Community Center at 10:30am and the Iva Civic Center at 2:30pm. For elementary and older children, STEM activities will be at multiple library locations each week. For adults, there’s virtual trivia events, take home crafts, and small group classes. To see all upcoming events and to register for events, visit calendar.andersonlibrary.org. Don’t know what to read first? Library staff are happy to help provide book recommendations for any age or reading level. eBooks and digital audiobooks are also available on the Libby and Hoopla apps, so you can take your reading on the road, on the beach, or even just around the house. Questions or want more information? Visit online at www.andersonlibrary.org or ask any Anderson County Library staff.
