Get Growing!

Check out seeds from the Anderson Main Library beginning March 1 when the Seed Library reopens for spring. The Seed Library allows library cardholders to check out up to five seed packets at a time, no returns necessary. The Seed Library is made possible by a partnership between the Anderson County Library System and the Anderson County Soil and Water Conservation District and aims to foster and engage Anderson residents of all ages in food and environmental sustainability.

Tweens and Teens: Make seed bombs on Thursday, March 11 at 4:30pm (virtual event) Adults: Get a Take and Make kit to craft a felt flower bookmark or your own wildflower seed bomb. Look for the Creative Crafters tutorial for felt flower bookmarks March 9 on the Library’s Facebook page.

BIRTH TO PRESCHOOL

Virtual Storytime Featuring a song, story, and rhyme, storytime videos are published each Monday morning on Facebook. Find past storytimes on YouTube as well. Early Literacy Tips Every other week, Youth Services staff share an easy game or activity for you and your little one to develop early literacy skills. Published every other Tuesday on Facebook, or find past Early Literacy Tips on YouTube.

CHILDREN

Edible Destruction Grab and Go Activity Starting March 2, children can pick up a Grab and Go activity kit to build a toothpick gumdrop structure. Put those engineering and problem solving skills to the test and see how sturdy a structure you can build! Available at all Anderson County library locations. Also available for curbside pickup upon request. While supplies last. Project Feederwatch Stop by the Children’s Courtyard at the Main Library any Friday or Saturday through April 9 and be a citizen scientist. Identify birds you see at the feeders using our poster or the Merlin app, write down your findings on our tally sheet, and receive a free pair of kid-friendly binoculars (one per child, while supplies last). In April, we’ll report findings to Cornell University, which sponsors this program.

TWEENS: GROW MICROGREENS Tween Challenge: it’s grow time! Start spring by learning about microgreens and growing your own with this Grab and Go activity kit for ages 8-12. Available at the Main Library beginning March 8th. To pick up at your local branch library or for other questions, email childrens@ andersonlibrary.org or call (864) 260-4500 x158.

TEENS AGES 12-18

Seed Bombs Seed bombs are a fun way to plant flowers - no digging required. Learn how to create seed bombs out of materials you already have at home. We’ll provide the seeds; you provide the kitchen blender. Register, then come by your library to pick up snack bag. Creative Crafters: Felt Flower Bookmark Make a felt flower bookmark. Choose from blue, purple, or red. Take & Make kits will be available at the beginning of the month. Limited kits available. Take ‘n Make Craft: Seed Bombs Make a self-planting seed bomb using our Take and Make kit and a video from Creativebug (available with your library card). Latest Library Updates with COVID-19

All Anderson County Library locations are open to the public, including access to books, materials, WiFi, Internet-access computers, and printers, copiers, and fax machines. Notary service is available at the Main and Pendleton libraries. Masks are required in all Anderson County Library locations. Patrons are asked to limit their visits to 30 minutes. All libraries except Westside continue to offer curbside pickup for materials for anyone who requests it. 8th Annual Anderson County

Poetry Contest The Anderson County Library will be taking submissions for the 8th annual Poetry Contest February 15 through March 19. Professional and amateur writers in Anderson County ages 12 and up may submit their original work. Entries will be published in an anthology. Visit www.andersonlibrary.org or ask staff for details.

Government-issued picture ID Social Security Cards for all household members listed on the return Proof of income, (W-2, 1099 MISC, 1099 INT, 1099 DIV, Social Security benefit statements, unemployment insurance), including cash • Proof of Health Insurance for all persons listed • Dependent Income information • Receipts for any deductions you plan to claim (property taxes, mortgage interest, education expenses, daycare expenses) • Copy of last year’s return • Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds If you file “Married Filing Jointly,” you and your spouse together count as one filer. Both spouses must be present to sign a joint return. If your spouse is unable to be with you, you will need to bring a power of attorney form or notarized letter in order to sign his/ her name on the return. The volunteers are not able to prepare returns for people with foreclosures or who are enrolled in mortgage relief programs.
