What’s Inside Latest Library Updates with COVID-19 The Anderson County Library System encourages you to read local this Indie Author Day on Saturday, November 7. Indie Author Day will be celebrated virtually on the Library’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and will feature 8 regional authors writing across multiple genres and ages. The celebration also kicks off the new Local Author collection at the Anderson Main Library. Indie Author Day is an annual event for libraries and organizations around the world to highlight local authors, writers, and communities for a day of education, networking, and resource sharing. This year, the Anderson County Library is spotlighting local authors with a brief synopsis and purchasing information for their newest books, along with the Library’s writing resources. Content will be posted on the Library’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts throughout the day on November 7 as well as online at www.andersonlibrary.org/indie-author-day. Emily B. Martin, a Pendleton native and featured author, has donated 3 copies of her newest book Sunshield for a giveaway. To enter the giveaway, like and comment on at least three posts from the Library’s Indie Author Day posts on Facebook or Instagram by Sunday, November 8. In addition to featuring local authors virtually, the Library is debuting a new Local Author collection on the main floor at the Anderson Main Library. This collection will highlight past and newly published literary voices and talents from the region. Browse a range of genres and topics, both fiction and non-fiction. All books are available to check out. For Library locations, hours, and more information, visit www. andersonlibrary.org. LOOKING AHEAD...
Staff Picks These November staff picks highlight books by Native American authors for Native American Heritage Month. Find these books on the shelf or check out the eBook or digital audiobook with the Libby app. The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich Adult Fiction Telling the story of the 1950s fight against tribal termination, this book also touches on poverty and trafficking, but ultimately the love, joy, struggles, and all the little moments in between make the residents of Turtle Mountain stay with you long after. The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones Adult Horror Jones gives an own voice perspective to the deeply literary horror genre. The Only Good Indians pulls from actual Blackfoot lore, threading the importance of nature into its darkly atmospheric tale of four young men and a hunting trip that comes back to haunt them, quite literally. Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse Juvenile Fiction Coming from Rick Riordan’s new publishing house, Race to the Sun pulls from the Navajo tradition and legend of the Hero Twins. Roanhorse pulls from the original cultural and stories of the Navajo and weaves a delightfully fun tale of siblings, monsters, and the importance of family. Perfect for your young adventurous reader!
