This graphic star quilt is suitable for quilters with little experience or for anyone who wants to make a beautiful wall quilt that packs a punch. The oversize blocks are easy to make, and the placement of light, medium, and dark prints adds secondary, unexpected designs. What exactly is the block? The large patches are the perfect place to show off the small- and large-scale prints.

Yardage

Fat 6 Bundle From each of 13 blue strips: Cut (2) squares 10" x 10", cut in half diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles (52 total triangles) From each of 10 white strips: Cut (2) squares 10" x 10", cut in half diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles (40 total triangles)

Cutting Directions

Note: Read assembly directions before cutting patches. All measurements are cut sizes and include 4" seam allowances. Borders are cut the exact lengths required plus 4" seam allowances. WOF designates the width of fabric from selvedge to selvedge (approximately 42" wide).

5 White Prints From each: Cut (3-4) squares 10" x 10", cut in half diagonally to make 6-8 half-square triangles (36 total triangles) Fabric A Cut (9) strips 22" x WOF for binding Backing Cut (2) panels 40" x 80", pieced to fit quilt top with overlap on all sides

Making the Quilt

1. The blocks use half-square triangles (HST) that finish 9" square. Use your favorite method to make HST, or follow these directions. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each light 10" square (Diagram 1). Place a marked square on a dark square, right sides together. Sew 4" seam on each side of the marked line; cut apart on the marked line. Press open to make pieced HST. Trim the HST squares to 92". Make 52 HST using light and dark squares, and make 12 using light squares.

Finishing the Quilt

4. Layer the quilt with batting and backing and baste. Quilt in the ditch around block patches. Quilt around the printed motifs in the blocks, or quilt an overall pattern. Bind to finish the quilt. Block – Make 4
