We have had a mixed start to this season. Pre season was really good, and we have built a very strong side when we must make changes, we are no weaker and I completely trust the whole squad.

For example, we made some changes for Saturday in the FA Vase and still hit the levels required The last pre season friendly against Tadley Calleva it all came together really, and we haven’t looked back.

All the lads know what I require and demand and the new players on board have bought into what I want straight away. To be honest it feels like the new players we’ve added have been here for years.

Our ultimate goal is to win the league and secure promotion and to be completely honest that what I demand and expect from this group of players. Everything is there for them.

MTHEANAGER

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for today’s match against our visitor’s Ash United, and to their Officials, Management, Players and Supporters.

First and foremost, they are brilliant human beings, but they are also hard working and humble, which has given us the platform to have a real chance at achieving something special this season.

“OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO WIN THE PLAYERSTHISEXPECTDEMANDWHATHONESTCOMPLETELYANDPROMOTIONANDLEAGUESECURETOBETHATIANDFROMGROUPOF.”

We have had two brilliant wins against Fleetlands and Warminster Town in the FA Cup. The opening game against Fleetlands, we started a little slow but then got into gear thanks to Daryll’s and Cam’s early finishes and we performed brilliantly on the night to add another two before half time through Callum and Dockers.

The team spirit is amazing which is really pleasing it can take you so far. Combine that with the talent we have in this squad I’m hoping we can emulate what we did last season but just better it that little more.

The club has been on an upward spiral for a number of years now. We’ve had a lot of successful times and we’ve been at the right end of the table.

My pride was even greater on Saturday after the win at Sherborne. I can honestly say that this current group of players is the best I have worked with during my time in football.

The 4 3 scoreline was repeated the following Saturday but this time it was the Green Army that were celebrating the win.

Kareem Foster scored for Ash United in their next match against Folland Sports, but Arshia Sheibatzadeh scored in the 54th minute to earn the Planemakers a draw.

Ash United arrive at Foxcotte Park following an opening day defeat against Newport (IOW). The Green Army fought back with goals from Kareem Foster, George Headley and Andre Smith, but Newport prevailed with a 4 3 score line.

A home tie in the FAV Vase saw the Green Army host fellow League One Petersfield Town near the end of August.

An inconsistent start to the season for the Green Army will be on their fan’s minds. However, an impressive 1-1 draw over one of the title favorites in Folland Sports, proves that Ash are an improving side in the division and that Street will need to be on their guard. KEVIN PIPKIN looks at the Ash United squad on show this afternoon.

Kareem Foster, Emeka Nwaubani, Andre Smith and substitute Nathaniel Manyani were the scorers as the Green recorded their first win of the season.

A 4 0 defeat at Downton, brought the Green Army back down to earth with the prolific Sam Howe scoring a brace and Oliver Davies and Krzysztof Krystofowicz also on target for the rampant Robins.

The visitors dominated the early possession but were at times guilty of over elaboration whilst the home side defended in numbers before suddenly taking the lead after a quarter of an hour.

A dangerous Jordan Devaney free kick found no takers in the box, but the next attack saw a long ball split the Street defence and Jake Martin coolly slotted the ball past Sean O’Brien to put his side in front. A Rusher break was stopped by the award of a strange free kick to the visitors and the bemused expression on the face of the defender spoke volumes with regard to the Adamdecision.Pearson

The Andover New Street promotion bandwagon would roll on at Ash but not without over coming some bumps in the opening half, and they eventually recorded the same score line as the meeting between the two Clubs earlier in the season.

Fredericks’s huge clearances from his hands were an occasional problem, though he was rightly spoken too by the referee for the time he held the ball, before with ten minutes left in the half the scores were level. Cook’s header from a Gosney corner was cleared off the line only for Shane Lock to prod the ball home in the ensuing scramble.

A Reece Rusher shot was saved in a goalmouth scramble in the opening minute before the Assistant awarded a throw in without the ball going out of play, the player controlling same inside the line.

The Street were entering the final weeks of a long hard season, one point behind leaders Bemerton Heath Harlequins, having overcome bogey side Downton the previous Tuesday, thanks to two Reece Rusher efforts that secured a narrow 2 1 victory. That just left two away trips to East Cowes on the final day of the season but before that the Street had to make their first trip to Shawfield Stadium.

Shane Lock celebrates his first half equaliser, watched by Adam Pearson.

Rusher struck the bar after a neatly worked corner before Gosney returned the compliment with a through ball to Cook who was brought down by Fredericks and the penalty awarded.

Max Allen replaced Pearson on the re start and in the opening attack Cook slid the ball home only to be denied, rightfully, by a rather late offside flag. The home side were no doubt hoping to continue in the same vein as the first half but found themselves behind for the first time after just seven minutes when Cook’s through ball allowed Mike Gosney to beat the advancing keeper.

The scorer then gave way to Mikey Davis and a Cook header was tipped on to the bar by Fredericks before the striker was replaced by Josh Jeffery with Street then adding three further goals in the last six minutes as the home heads dropped.

Lock’s determination set Reece Rusher up for number five before Shane Lock himself made it six, cutting in from the left and finding the corner despite Fredericks getting his hands to the ball, before a solo effort by Josh Jeffery made the total seven on the brink of stoppage time.

“I’m so pleased for the lads, they fully deserved to go through this afternoon. We so nearly did it in the 90 minutes but to have it snatched away like it was. With each year that passes, the artwork becomes more bizarre and more over engineered. No longer can you honestly say your team plays in red or blue or white it’s in there somewhere, but you might find it among swirling, cod paisley designs, TV interference from the 1970s or in the form of a shirt that looks as though it has been in the washing machine with a strong colour that makes your own shirt, white with a hint of pink, yellow or lilac. Or it may be the shirt has been designed by a gang of small children let loose on a tin of Crayola. There seems to be no limits to the amount of needless and expensive graphic design that goes into the new season’s home, away or third strip.

somewhere down the line, the club’s intellectual property is being tampered with.

There are a number of assets that form the club identity: the badge (logo), the playing strip and the stadium are the most prominent. Today, all corporates have brand identity teams that look after the logo and all its attributes. A club should do likewise, indeed many certainly do, but the playing strip seems to change year in, year out. Inter Milan is a good case of how black and blue stripes can be distorted to produce confusing brand identity. Stripes are stripes, not zig zags.

A club’s shirt should be instantly identifiable as belonging to that club. So why not allow it to be a constant, an official strip that only alters to allow for modernisation and technical improvement? This is a strip that can stand up as the club’s official uniform, always present, always visible and never changing. If you want to make it something that can be sold annually, then simply have the season printed on the shoulders.

Every season, clubs roll-out new shirts that bastardise their heritage, infuriate certain fans and invite criticism and laughter at their expense. While fans complain about the designs, and some are really quite hideous, it doesn’t stop them queuing to buy them, either to wear them on matchdays or stick them in a drawer with all their previous shirts.

We all know why this happens. It’s not for the aesthetic value of the shirt in question, because most are pretty awful. It’s aimed at making as much money as possible. Why not? You might ask. Actually, from a commercial point of view, shirt sales are an important element in any club’s commercial offering. The fans lap it up, but

When was the last time you watched a game where two teams played in their traditional colours? It’s quite rare that a club wears its first choice for an away game, but in today’s game, it’s hard to keep up with away kit colouring. By all means commercialise you’re offering but keep it simple and don’t exploit the audience.

Alternatively, if a club is hell bent on producing new merchandise that lures more cash out of the pockets of fans, then a strip for the season can be introduced that adheres to the guidelines of the branding department. If blue is the colour, then why introduce reds, greens and yellows that bear no relation to the club’s heritage? There’s plenty you can do with a sympathetic palette, is it really necessary to wander into the world of manufactured colours with names like rose bloom pink, light mint, lapis blue and stealth? Of course, this ill defined set of products may be a way to deter piracy, but where’s there’s a will, there’s a way.

He’s given 110 per cent and he’s scored goals that’s the main reason we signed him. If you give him chances, he will score. He had two last night and scored once long may it

Pitman, 34, has hit the ground running at Portchester after being released by Bristol Rovers at the end of last season. Last Tuesday night’s header was his first competitive goal since netting for Eastleigh in a 5 3 National League loss at Solihull in March during a loan spell.

‘It was a difficult first game,’ said assistant boss Gavin Spurway. ‘Maybe there were a bit of nerves. The first game is always a bit nervy, whatever anyone says. Cowes defended well, but I always felt we were going to score, we were creating chances. It was the sort of game last season that we might not have ended up winning. A 4 0 loss at last season’s runners up Andover New Street was followed by a 4 3 defeat at Ash last weekend.

‘It’s been a learning curve, a baptism of fire’ – Fleetlands already exposed to harsh realities of life in the Wessex League

‘It’s already clear that if you make a mistake it’s punished, and we have to take our chances,’ said boss Dan Greenwood.

Fleetlands trailed 4 0 at Ash before netting three times in the final 15 minutes through Kai Sterne, Jamie Wrapson and Cameron Stone. Sterne then went through one on one with the home keeper in the dying seconds, only to fail to complete a stunning recovery act.

‘If you made those mistakes in the Hampshire League you could get away from them. It’s been a learning curve, a baptism of fire. There’s lots of work on but lots of positives. It’s a relatively new group and we’re still gelling.’

‘You could see why Andover finished second last season, but we created just as much as them. Of the eight goals we’ve conceded, we’ve gifted teams five of them. The biggest positive is we’re creating chances. With our togetherness, our workrate and desire, we would have been good value for a point at Ash, if not all three. ROUND-UP

Fleetlands have already been exposed to the harsh realities of life at a higher level of the non league pyramid.

Fleetlands host their first Wessex home game since 2006/07 this Saturday against Totton & Eling. The Eels finished last season bottom of the table, winning just two of their 36 fixtures. But they lifted the curtain on 2022/23 with a 3 1 win at Romsey, former Baffins Milton Rovers youngster Owen Pelham in their starting XI. Fleetlands are without suspended pair Sterne and Callum Dart. Sterne is serving a suspension imposed for an offence last season, while Dart was sent off following an altercation with a member of the Ash management team.

The Coptermen only conceded seven goals in their final nine fixtures en route to finishing third in last season’s Hampshire Premier League. On being rewarded with promotion to Wessex 1, they have started 2022/23 by conceding eight times in two games.

The ladies have been in preparation for The Hampshire County Women’s League (Division 2), which kicks off in mid-September since June.

We have also seen three of our very talented under 16’s step up into senior football this year and they are definitely proving that they are more than capable. The interest in ladies' football is on the rise (with huge thanks to The Lionesses) and we are over the moon with that. We are really hoping to see some new faces in the stands this season. Our league games are on Sundays with Kick Off at 14:00. It would be great to bring the force of Street to our opponents and show them how big of a family we really are.

We have definitely been put through our paces with intense fitness sessions whilst also trying a new formation this year. We were able to put this into practice with a friendly against Durrington back in July. The result was 3 3. We saw ourselves 2 0 down at half time and only conceded again in the last few minutes. We had two new signings scoring on their New Street Ladies debut which is a fantastic start of what is yet to come this season.

Maybe we could even get some of our younger fans as

Like many clubs, Chippenham have the life saving piece of equipment. Never did they expect to use it especially on one of their own players. But during the first half of their recent game with the Clarets, it became very apparent something was wrong when 21 year old Martinez went down.

Of course, that game came a bit too soon for the former Bristol Rovers defender, but he was due to be fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) like Denmark international Christian Eriksen and hopes are he will play again. The fact this is a good news story is down to a lot of people. When the medical process swings into action, there can be positive outcomes. And Blackmore said it has hit home quite how important a defibrillator is.

“The emergency services were fantastic too. Literally within minutes we had two ambulances and a rapid responder and a few minutes later an air ambulance landed. I can’t praise them highly

For the Bluebirds chairman Neil Blackmore, the story has a simple reminder for clubs and all sport facilities make sure you have a defibrillator for that situation you hope will never happen.

he left in a land ambulance he was sat up and gave us a wave. He actually said to the doctor from the helicopter, ‘Will I be OK to play on Tuesday?’”

“But to see the club’s doctor knelt over him doing CPR is really shocking and hopefully we never see it again.

“The way everybody reacted was fantastic. He collapsed and straightaway the physio and a team mate, who is first aid trained, came onto the pitch and turned him over. Anton, the physio, said, ‘He’s stopped breathing’. Straightaway they started CPR. Our club doctor and paramedic ran on a they got the defib out and gave him a shock and he came round first time.

On to Saturday and Petersfield’s good start to the season continued with a 3 0 win at Ash United, all the goals coming in the first half from Zak Sharp, Marvin Orepo and Keiran Alcock.

While some ten or so miles away Alresford were beaten 4 3 by Godalming Town. It was three each at half time with the Alresford goals coming from Nick Yeomans with two and James Parker Trott, but it was the home side who scored the all important goal in the second half. Pagham travelled to Maidstone and were level with Staplehurst Monarchs at two goals apiece in normal time strikes from Junior Kamara and Phil Turner before winning the shootout 4 2.

Taking the all Wessex ties first, Bournemouth got the ball rolling on Friday evening with a best of three goals victory at near rivals Christchurch. Steffi Pilsoiu gave the home side the lead but two goals from Marcus Cullen saw the Poppies progress.

The five victories over “foreign opposition” started on Friday night with a goal fest at Fawley where the home side held Western League Wincanton Town to a five all draw over the ninety minutes before winning 3 1 on penalties. The Fawley nap hand came from Dylan Knight with a hat trick, James Clifton and Dec Hartigan. Records tend to suggest that this is the joint highest scored draw in Vase history unless of course you know differently. Anyone?

The two defeats against sides from other Leagues both came in Surrey, Baffins Milton Rovers went down 2 1 at Badshot Lea Kelvin Robinson with the lone goal.

The other two games ended in single goal victories with Jamie Ovington giving AFC Stoneham the points at Blackfield & Langley and a first half goal from Archie Lovegrove seeing Laverstock & Ford home against

After playing in the Southampton Saturday League, Esso (Fawley) rejoined Division Three of the Hampshire League in 1992. They were Division Three champions in 1994 95, earning promotion to Division Two. A fifth place finish in Division Two in 1998 99 saw the club promotion to Division One, which was renamed the Premier Division for the following season. In 2002 the club adopted their current name. In 2004 the Hampshire League merged into the Wessex League, with Fawley becoming members of the new Division Two (renamed Division One in 2006). In 2009 10 the club were Division One runners up and were promoted to the Premier Division. They were relegated back to Division One at the end of the 2016 17 season after finishing in the bottom three of the Premier Division.

The club was established in 1923 under the name AGWI United, taking their name from the Atlantic, Gulf and West Indies Oil Company that owned the Fawley Refinery, opened two years previously. They joined Division Two of the Hampshire League in 1929 and finished bottom of the division in their first season in the league. The club remained in Division Two until World War II. Following the war the club became members of Division Three (West) in 1948 and finished bottom of the division in 1948 49. They were then renamed Esso (Fawley), reflecting the purchase of the refinery by Esso.

Both sides met recently in the 3 3 draw here at Foxcotte Park on the 13th of August with Oilers goalkeeper Lee Burch scoring an injury time penalty.
