“OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO WIN THE PLAYERSTHISEXPECTDEMANDWHATHONESTCOMPLETELYANDPROMOTIONANDLEAGUESECURETOBETHATIANDFROMGROUPOF.”

The club has been on an upward spiral for a number of years now. We’ve had a lot of successful times and we’ve been at the right end of the table. All the lads know what I require and demand and the new players on board have bought into what I want straight away.

The team spirit is amazing which is really pleasing it can take you so far. Combine that with the talent we have in this squad I’m hoping we can emulate what we did last season but just better it that little more. Our ultimate goal is to win the league and secure promotion and to be completely honest that what I demand and expect from this group of players. Everything is there for them. Be loud and proud from the stands, this afternoon and enjoy the game. UTS!

To be honest it feels like the new players we’ve added have been here for years.

Buy a 50/50 ticket at today’s game to stand a chance of winning a big cash prize Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for today’s match against our visitor’s Fawley, and to their Officials, Management, Players and Supporters. I’m really happy with how the season has started. Pre season was really good, and we have built a very strong side when we must make changes, we are no weaker and I completely trust the whole squad. For example, we made four changes for Saturday in the fa cup and still hit the levels required The last pre season friendly against Tadley Calleva it all came together really, and we haven’t looked back. We have had two brilliant wins against Fleetlands and Warminster Town in the FA Cup. The opening game against Fleetlands, we started a little slow but then got into gear thanks to Daryll’s and Cam’s early finishes and we performed brilliantly on the night to add another two before half time through Callum and Dockers. My pride was even greater on Saturday after the win at Warminster. I can honestly say that this current group of players is the best I have worked with during my time in football. First and foremost, they are brilliant human beings, but they are also hard working and humble, which has given us the platform to have a real chance at achieving something special this season.

The Oilers started their preseason with a 1 1 draw at Hythe & Dibden in early July, with dual registered Sam Clark scoring for StockbridgeFawley.werethe visitors for the next game and a 2 2 draw was the outcome with Clark again on target along with Indrit Elezi, scoring his first goal for the club. QK Southampton were then soundly beaten 5 1 with Roche getting a brace and other goals from Clifton, Elezi and Bowman.

We would like to welcome today’s visitors to Foxcotte Park

The OIlers season started last Tuesday with a home game with Folland Sports with the Planemakers winning 3 0 courtsey of goals from former Street striker Luke Hooper and a brace from Aleksandr Sipilovas. With a new manager at the helm, Fawley fans are optimistic about the season ahead. Going into today’s game fifth in the division, Oiler’s fans are eyeing a return to the Wessex Premier. KEVIN PIPKIN looks at the Fawley squad on show this afternoon.

FAWLEY AFC Welcome to Fawley arrive at Foxcotte Park after their opening day defeat at Folland Sports and look to kick start their campaign that they hope will see them improve on last season’s 16th position.

The 2 1 win over Wessex Premier AFC Stoneham was followed with a 3 2 win over Sway. A 3 3 draw with FC Harvest came before their defeat to Blackfield & Langley.

Page11

The 2022/23 campaign will represent Manager Andy Samuels first season in charge of the Oilers, and he will hope that Fawley will improve on their results this season, especially against the top half of the division, as they only picked up three points against those sides, with a draw at Downton and an impressive 1 0 win over Folland Sports at the Aliport Arena. Declan Hartigan scoring the all important goal that day. Pre season has seen the Oilers going into seven warm up games with just 1 defeat, a 6 1 loss to Blackfield & Langley, including a creditable 2 1 win at home to AFC Stoneham and, more importantly these results were achieved without any major injury worries, meaning the Fawley boss should have a full strength squad to choose from for this afternoon’s match.

Samuels previous managerial role was at Romsey Town FC where he spent four and a half years, turning them from a bottom of the table side to promotion contenders. They narrowly missed out on automatic promotion twice, before Andy stepped away from football to focus on his young family. This change in the management team has seen Shepherd move into a committee role, continuing the outstanding work he does building up the club.

Started with the Oilers in the 2014 15 season were he made 8 appearances. Macey stayed with Fawley for 5 seasons and made 54 appearances during that time. He then joined Blackfield & Langley for the 2021 22 season and made 15 appearances before rejoining the Oilers in the summer.

Burch has had an illustrious non league career with clubs as Blackfield & Langley, Hythe & Dibden, Romsey Town, Verwood Town, Bemerton Heath Harlequins and Whitchurch United listed as previously played for. Joined Fawley in the 2016 17 season and despite moving to Amesbury Town last season, he quickly returned and made 34 appearances last season, mainly in goal.

THE REECEDEFENDER:MACEY

WATCH OUT FOR… DYLAN KNIGHT

Another player that has stayed loyal with the Oilers. Started with the club back in 2015 and made just 4 appearances before forcing his way into the side and continues to be one of the first names on the team sheet. Has made 83 appearances in total for Fawley and scored 24 goals during the 6 seasons spell he has had at the club.

Initially started with Fawley in 2014 and made 40 appearances in his debut season, scoring 11 times. The following season saw limited appearances with just 14 made in the 2015 16 season. This saw Knight move to Andover Town in 2016 17, but again he only made 6 appearances for the Town, scoring just the 1 goal. Further moves to Lymington Town, Alresford Town and Ringwood Town followed with limited playing time before a move back to the Waterside was made in 2019 where he has stayed since. Last season was the club’s top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions from 35 appearances.

Attendance: 60 A late Matt Scott winner ensures a 4 3 victory over a spirited Fawley side that took the game to the Street at Foxcotte Park. Fawley lead through a Biffin strike but equalise through Jazz Beavis on 33 minutes, only to fall behind again shortly afterwards when Lilley scores for the Oilers. Scott equalises with a free header on the stroke of halftime. Luke Hooper puts the Street in front shortly after the interval. Fawley respond with their own equaliser from Southwick and with the clock ticking into injury time. Skipper Scott wins the game with another header.

Attendance: 70 The Oilers score a dramatic injury time equaliser as the Street fail to take their chances and build from their second half opener from Shane Lock. Fawley are never out of the game, and with the game finishing in torrential rain, a Fawley corner is bundled home by Declan Hartigan that secures a point.

Jazz Beavis is then upended in the penalty area, and he dispatches the resulting penalty on 39 minutes. Ramos breaks through three minutes later to give the Street a 3 0 half time lead. Ramos completes his hat trick early in the second half with a fine header, but despite several chances in the second half, they have to wait until the 89th minute for goal number 5. A week later a late Ross Cook effort earned a deserved point at Andover Town, despite being 2 0 down at half time, the Street were creating plenty of opportunities and were well on top. A spirited performance at Moneyfields in the Hampshire Cup, losing 2 0, was quickly forgotten about with a brilliant performance at New Milton Town. The Linnets were unbeaten before that game but were chasing the game as early as the 4th minute when Cook was on target and was quickly doubled in the 30th minute when Thompson’s quick closing down, won him the ball and he finished past the keeper. Hooper then put the Street 3 0 up ten minutes into the second half with a fine counterattack and despite New Milton pulling a goal back and putting pressure on the Street defence, the game was won.

The Street were under new management for the 2021/22 season, with Jamie Coleman taking charge and being assisted by John Smith. After a solid pre season, with just 1 defeat, a narrow 2 1 loss to Salisbury, the Street opened their league campaign with a midweek trip to Whitchurch, due to the Street’s participation in the FA Cup. The Street dominated the opening period and were rewarded with a Luke Hooper goal after 38 minutes. The Street should have doubled their lead shortly afterwards, but Lloyd Thompson was off target with an effort that was presented to him following an error in the Whitchurch Thebackline.JamBoys got back on level terms when a disputed free kick was put into the Street area and Declan Shuttleworth rose highest to head home on the stroke of half time. The second half was a completely different, with Whitchurch dominating and deservedly took the points when Dan Parry broke free and clipped his shot over the advancing Chris Wing. The Street then produced a fine battling performance at Shepton Mallet, taking their step five opponents to a replay with a 0 0 draw, with Street missing a couple of good chances near the end. Unfortunately, they could not repeat that performance in the replay three days later with the Mallet winning 4 0 at Foxcotte Park.

FAWLEY AFC: Coombs, Munday, Hawkins, Green, Sayce, Raferty, Smith, Bolton, Knight, Berry, McLeod

Cook stepped up and stroked the ball home into the bottom right corner and we were somewhat fortunate to be in front again.

Time was running out and Fawley threw everybody forward in a desperate bid to earn a point, but that became fatal when Rusher sent Cook free, and he made no mistake with his effort past the advancing FawleyCoombs.’s afternoon was even more disappointing when Tom Munday received a red card in the closing minutes, after a skirmish that ended with Danny Urry receiving a yellow card.

The Street faithful were getting nervous as one goal is never enough and Fawley sensed they were in with a chance of getting something out of the game.

Rusher came back on after his enforced visit to the sin bin. However, Lewis Alderman then went down and had to be replaced by Adam Pearson.

Ross Cook slots home to complete his hat-trick.

A brilliant 4 3 win at Cowes Sports, with 10 men for over an hour, and a Ross Cook hat trick put the Street deservedly through in the league cup. Fellow islanders, East Cowes were then beaten 5 0 at Foxcotte Park with goals from Shane Lock (2), Reece Rusher, Lloyd Thompson and substitute Harry Lawton scoring with virtually his first touch, a powerful header from a Street corner. This was despite the dismissal of Luke FurtherHooper.league

Fawley had a number of good chances in the first half and were very much still in the match as the halftime whistle blew. The second half got underway, with Max Allen replaced by Danny Urry and the pace started to pick up but still very little goalmouth action.

Then Reece Rusher was sent to the Sin Bin after dissent with the Referee. Weatherall had to make a double save to keep us in front but then from the following corner, a header from the unmarked Tom Raferty levelled things up. With the Street down to 10 men and Fawley now pushing for a winner, the game could have easily gone away from the Street, but then the Referee decided, after consulting the linesman, that Ross Cook had been fouled in the penalty area.

The time went by and then unfortunately Sean O'Brien went down and had to hobble off and Mike Weatherall came on.

The FA Cup has slipped down the list of priorities, but that’s because of the financial rewards available from every league placing and the possibility of Champions League football. It does seem as the though the concept of “glory” comes in a very poor second to TV money, and yet the cup competitions are something to savour if you are a fan. We cannot hope to recapture the social calendar aspect of Cup Final day, largely because TV football has become almost a 24 x 7 experience.

Article by Neil Fredrik Jensen, Editor of Game of the People

The Wembley final was a day out for the proletariet, even though very few of them could get tickets for the match.

to find all the latest news from Foxcotte Park Last season, Chelsea and Liverpool met in the final, Chelsea’s fourth in five years, Liverpool’s first since 2012 when the Blues beat them 2 1. It was the 11th final involving two so called Premier big six clubs. The hallowed half dozen have won 25 of the last 29 cup finals, so don’t let anyone tell you it doesn’t matter to the top clubs, if anything you wish it didn’t matter as much to give others a chance. And yet, those same clubs continually devalue the competition, fielding weakened teams as they rest their prized assets.Partof the FA Cup’s endearing charm was that it was live on TV and probably the only game the entire population could watch as it was taking place. This alone gave it special status, but the other aspect was the sudden death element of the game, something that bread and butter league games did not provide. In the 1960s, if a team lost a league fixture, it was not the end of the world, but elimination from the FA Cup was very upsetting and meant your team had to wait another year for a triumphant run to the twin

towers. Today, every Premier League game is treated as though the outcome of the season depends upon it. This is partly attributable to the TV broadcasters, who talk up every screened contest as being so very vital.

Back in the 1950s and beyond, the FA Cup final was in the same category as the Derby, the Grand National, the Boat Race and Test matches.

The pundit class continually tells us how amazing it still is, the Football Association mounts a campaign on an annual basis to big it up, but no matter how much we try to convince ourselves; we know it isn’t 1952 anymore.

The nation does not come to a standstill on FA Cup final day, and nobody is ever going to reintroduce community singing to the pre match ceremony.

Every year, the same question is asked: has the FA Cup lost its appeal?

TV coverage started mid morning in some cases and involved all sorts of activities, from gormless entertainment like “It’s a Knockout” to “Meet the Team”. Again, this kind of nonsense made the game even more attractive. The newspapers had eight page FA Cup specials, the Daily Mirror was especially notable for its cartoons of the players. The media interviews were as banal as they are today, although a little more authentic as the world wasn’t sinking under a wave of cliché and jargon. There was a buzz on Cup Final day that really doesn’t exist today, and that’s because we live in an age where you can have anything you want at any time. The final’s scarcity value was what made it unique. It was these side dishes that created the aura around the FA Cup. Yes, it was a great afternoon but society has changed so much that nobody wants one memorable occasion. Every football match is supposed to be like that today. If you eat Kobe steak every day, it is longer a treat, it becomes as commonplace as economy mince.

It can still excite people, but the most predictable thing about the competition has become the destination of the iconic trophy. In 29 years, Arsenal have won nine, Chelsea seven, Manchester United five and Liverpool and Manchester City two apiece. Only Everton (1995), Portsmouth (2008), Wigan (2013) and Leicester (2021) have broken the hold of the top clubs since the Premier League was created. At the end of the day, the technicians of the Premier League surely resent the fact their data fuelled plans could be upset by that most haunting of setbacks, “the error”. While over the course of a league programme, the best teams will certainly prevail, sheer doggedness, emotion and basic good fortune have conjured up memorable moments in the history of the FA Cup. Nobody will remember an all conquering team like Manchester City beating a club with fewer resources 6 0 in the final, but they will talk for years about heroes of Wembley who have pulled off the

There’s nothing football managers dislike more than uncertainty and cup competitions, traditionally, have been riddled with the prospect of surprise. A league will, in most cases, deliver the right result, but cup shocks can happen to anyone. This was always the mythical romance that surrounded the FA Cup, the highly motivated underdogs winning a final teams like Wimbledon (1988), Southampton (1976), Sunderland (1973) and Wigan Athletic (2013). The current leading lights of the game are so much more powerful than the rest of English football they can afford to drop key players for the cup ties, and still win. They are so fine tuned, so system driven, that it is hard to imagine some of the surprises of the past ever happening again. Hence, the starry eyed, hopeful side of the game is very hard to achieve. The last non big six winner of the competition was

From the perspective of the people running football teams, winning a league is the real mark of performance because it is the week in, week out activity.

Theunexpected.FACup’s future does rely on surprises happening every now and then, but it is getting harder and harder to achieve “giant killing”. If anything, this is why the Cup has mislaid its mass appeal. Knockout football should not merely be an extension of the Premier League schedule.

WESSEX LEAGUE LATEST NEWS

The former Portsmouth fans favourite had been in prolific pre season form since his sensational arrival in the ninth tier of English football. And after nine goals in friendly action, Pitman headed in a 77th minute winner to get the pre season Wessex Premier title favourites off to a triumphant start. Pitman showed great movement to make himself a yard of room to nod in a left wing cross. ‘It was a difficult first game,’ said assistant boss Gavin Spurway. ‘Maybe there were a bit of nerves. The first game is always a bit nervy, whatever anyone says. Cowes defended well, but I always felt we were going to score, we were creating chances. It was the sort of game last season that we might not have ended up winning. That’s why we signed Brett Pitman, to do what he does.’ Pitman, 34, has hit the ground running at Portchester after being released by Bristol Rovers at the end of last season. Last Tuesday night’s header was his first competitive goal since netting for Eastleigh in a 5 3 National League loss at Solihull in March during a loan spell. ‘He’s come in, he listens, he’s got his head down, he wants to be involved in everything, he speaks to the players, gives them advice,’ Spurway added. ‘I’ve been nothing but impressed with him so far. He’s given 110 per cent and he’s scored goals that’s the main reason we signed him. If you give him chances, he will score. He had two last night and scored once long may it Portchestercontinue.’

‘You could see why Andover finished second last season, but we created just as much as them. Of the eight goals we’ve conceded, we’ve gifted teams five of them. The biggest positive is we’re creating chances. With our togetherness, our workrate and desire, we would have been good value for a point at Ash, if not all three. And I don’t think they could have argued with that.’

On being rewarded with promotion to Wessex 1, they have started 2022/23 by conceding eight times in two games. A 4 0 loss at last season’s runners up Andover New Street was followed by a 4 3 defeat at Ash last weekend. Fleetlands trailed 4 0 at Ash before netting three times in the final 15 minutes through Kai Sterne, Jamie Wrapson and Cameron Stone.

Sterne then went through one on one with the home keeper in the dying seconds, only to fail to complete a stunning recovery act.

Fleetlands host their first Wessex home game since 2006/07 this Saturday against Totton & Eling. The Eels finished last season bottom of the table, winning just two of their 36 fixtures. But they lifted the curtain on 2022/23 with a 3 1 win at Romsey, former Baffins Milton Rovers youngster Owen Pelham in their starting XI. Fleetlands are without suspended pair Sterne and Callum Dart. Sterne is serving a suspension imposed for an offence last season, while Dart was sent off following an altercation with a member of the Ash management team.

The Coptermen only conceded seven goals in their final nine fixtures en route to finishing third in last season’s Hampshire Premier League.

Buy a 50/50 ticket at today’s game to stand a chance of winning a big cash prize Good afternoon and welcome back to Foxcotte Park to all our supporters for today’s match against Fawley. So, the season is already up and running with the lads getting off to a good start against Fleetlands last week and then grinding out a 2 0 away win against Warminster in the FA Cup. It’s the perfect start and hopefully it can continue this afternoon.

We have had a busy start to this season and with players returning to full training you are bound to pick up a few knocks here and there in pre season. We are happy to announce the addition of extra help for the club with the arrival of Josh Oatly Josh brings a fresh approach to the club, and his skills and ability’s will be put to very good use. Although he will mainly be attached to the first team, he has already proved he is more than happy to show his skills when treatment is required in the club working with me in our treatment Soroom.again, welcome to the Street Josh. We have as usual re supplied our main first aid kits and will be able to keep them topped up over the coming weeks as when required. TABLE PETE TUNNEY

Treatments are not always fun, as on Tuesday last, I needed to strip back a dead leg on one of our members, with the need to work around the bruising, but at the same time applying pressure, the player receiving the treatment, H, used some colorful phrases while we were working I really love my job lol. We look forward to a successful season working with all our staff and teams. On that note can I wish JC, Jamie Dockree and Thomo the very best for the season and let’s hope we go one better than last season. Lastly, treatments are available to all members of the club, and we are always happy to help. Please get in contact with the club should you need any and enjoy the

The ladies' team is a natural step up for our junior teams and this is the first season we are able to showcase the talent that we have at the club. The interest in ladies' football is on the rise (with huge thanks to The Lionesses) and we are over the moon with that. We are really hoping to see some new faces in the stands this season. Our league games are on Sundays with Kick Off at 14:00. It would be great to bring the force of Street to our opponents and show them how big of a family we really are. Maybe we could even get some of our younger fans as #UpThmascots?eStreet

We have also seen three of our very talented under 16’s step up into senior football this year and they are definitely proving that they are more than capable. Liv, Amelia and Keira have all progressed from Nic Turpin’s U16 side who compete in the Junior Premier League; quite frankly, they are absolutely smashing it too!

The ladies have been in preparation for The Hampshire County Women’s League (Division 2), which kicks off in mid September since June. We have seen great turnouts for our pre season sessions and have had a lot of interest from potential players looking at joining New Street. We have definitely been put through our paces with intense fitness sessions whilst also trying a new formation this year. We were able to put this into practice with a friendly against Durrington back in July. The result was 3 3. We saw ourselves 2 0 down at half time and only conceded again in the last few minutes. We had two new signings scoring on their New Street Ladies debut which is a fantastic start of what is yet to come this season.

Harry Lawton challenges for the ballStreet put in another Warminstercornerput in a rare attack at the Street goal

By Kevin Pipkin Street produced a gritty display to progress to the Preliminary round of the FA Cup after beating Warminster Town at Weymouth Street last Saturday. Street should have gone ahead on 18 minutes when Cam Thatcher broke into the box, and with the ball floating in the air, headed his effort straight at the Warminster keeper. George Baxter kept the scores level on 26 minutes with his only save of the match, going full length to deny Taylor. Street took the lead in the 57th minute after Shane Lock was tripped in the penalty area and substitute Ross Cook Warminsterscored. rarely threatened the Street’s lead, and the lead was doubled on 71 Joeminutes.Rogers cross was not dealt with by the Warminster defence and Cook coolly controlled the ball before finishing well to setup a visit to Westbury United in the next round.

Ross Cook and Josh Moore enjoy Street’s second goal with Shane Lock about to join in the celebrations

Bodies desperately thrown in front of shots at goal, last ditch tackles, full blooded challenges and a stoppage time equaliser lashed into the top corner sparking wild celebrations.Just83daysafter Liverpool lifted the trophy, the world’s oldest competition kicked off again. The sums of money are tiny in comparison, but still a vital £1,125 is up for grabs for the 208 winners in the extra preliminary. Indeed, even the losers at this stage take £375 all vital pounds for Non League clubs at the level. Perhaps there’s something to be said for Friday night football, with a healthy crowd in attendance. Fans pour through the turnstile block just before kick off to pay their £7 £4 for concessions and £1 for a programme. Outside the Brecklanders’ bar, the air hummed with that early season chatter of optimism and familiar faces catching up. The game was great. Three goals in four first half minutes before a net busting stoppage time equaliser from Soham’s Luke Brown to set up a replay. You could see what it meant. And we will see similar tales over the coming weeks and the competitions bounces from one round to the next. Maybe those who think the magic has gone aren’t looking in the right place…

There’s not much that grinds my gears like the debate around the FA Cup, the magic or lack thereof. In early January, the usual debate will be trotted out about the FA Cup and how seriously Premier League clubs take it and question whether the competition has lost its lustre. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn’t when the elite clubs join. I still like it, will always watch the final and generally buy into the idea it is a pretty special cup competition. Perhaps that comes from many years scribbling away for The NLP and having the chance to tell so many stories. From Lincoln City’s remarkable run to the quarter finals, to speaking to first timers just happy to have their name in the hat at the extra preliminary round stage. For me, it is these early rounds where the true heart of the competition really is. Where, for some clubs, just getting through a few rounds and getting, for example, a draw with a Step 2 club is reason to celebrate. Or where reaching the first round is the Idream.spoke to former Bowers & Pitsea manager Rob Small recently. His side reached the first round proper last term after dumping out National League Aldershot Town in the fourth round qualifying. They were draw at Lincoln and, for them, it really was the pinnacle, a day they won’t ever forget. Last Friday night I popped along to Thetford Town and Soham Town Rangers.

ANDOVER NEW STREET - v – FAWLEY AFC 13/08/2022 | FOXCOTTE PARK WESSEXTHE LEAGUE REVIEW

A lone John McKie goal gave Cowes Sports victory over Hamble Club at Westwood Park, Christchurch switched their tie with Blackfield & Langley to the Waterside and went down by the odd goal in five with a double from Clayd Roach and a goal from Sanchez McClean outweighing goals from Josh Ferguson and an own goal.

In the all Wessex ties Alresford and Laverstock & Ford shared four goals and the game will be replayed presumably on Tuesday evening at Laverstock. On the afternoon Joe Steele and Nick Yeomans scored for the home side with Lewis Barr and Jordon Matthews replying for the visitors.

The opening Saturday of the season and the programme consisting of the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and eight matches in Division One. In the FA Cup there were five all Wessex ties and thirteen involving Clubs from other Leagues meaning there was a possibility of 18 teams reaching the next round. In the event there were eleven victories, plus one when the replay of one of the all Wessex ties is resolved, with one game still in abeyance. The tie between Shaftesbury and Camberley Town was abandoned at half time after an injury to a visiting player and the best wishes of the League are extended for a speedy and full recovery.

Fareham defeated Hythe & Dibden 3 1 at Cams Alders, 16 year old Connor Underhill providing two and Garry Moody one, with Filippos Terzidis netting Hythe’s consolation. But the scoring feat of the day was at Bemerton Heath where Moneyfields’ Callum Laycock scored all his sides goals in the 5 0 victory. It will be a surprise if that is matched anywhere else across the Country in the competition. On to the six victories against “foreign” opposition with AFC Stoneham leading the way with a best of three goals victory over Bashley thanks to Isaac Evans and Jim Orvis with Lewis Ross on target for the Bash. In the tie played on Friday evening Baffins Milton Rovers proved too strong for Alton, now in the Combined Counties League. winning by four goals to one thanks to goals from Charlie Oakwell. Miles Everett, Kelvin Robinson and Alpay Ali with Liam Knight notching the Alton goal. Horndean pulled off a highly creditable 3 2 win at Thatcham thanks to two goals from Rudi Blankson and one from Connor Duffin and will now make the short trip to Baffins in the next round.United Services Portsmouth won at Western League Welton Rovers an own goal separating the two sides and Andover New Street also overcame Western League opposition, two Ross Cook goals giving them victory at Warminster Town. Completing the six are Newport who returned to the Island from Fleet Town with a 3 1 victory under their belts.

On the downside, so to speak, Bournemouth lost to a very late goal at Westbury United after Danny Hansford had levelled the scores at one apiece and Brockenhurst went down 4 0 at Combined Counties side Badshot Lea. Portland could not make home advantage pay in another switched tie, losing 2 0 to Lymington Town and Pagham found Erith Town from Kent too strong, conceding four goals without reply. Lastly, Follands travelled to Southern League Larkhall and lost 4 1 with Luke hooper getting the lone Ongoal.to Division One and a lot of goals 44 in eight matches. Hamworthy Recreation’s debut in the League ended with a 4 2 defeat at the hands of Andover Town at the Portway with David Jerrard, Ben Emans, Brendon Holmes and Jordan Smith the scorers and Carl Edwards opening the Rec’s League account with both goals. There was a similar score line at New Milton with Luke Stone (2), Charlie Turner and Tyrrell Sampson claiming the home goals and Callum Drake and Ethan Wood replying for Millbrook.

Verwood Town had Cameron McMonagle (2), Regan Mason and Louis McWilliams to thank while the Whitchurch replies came from Keiron Rodgers with two and Kyle theClubsCongratulationsWilliams.toallthosewhoweresuccessfulinEmiratesFACup,anditisbacktoWessexLeaguefarenextweek.

Lane Will Essai and Christian Bennett against Marcel Laptas and Kris Krysztofowicz while at Beatrice Avenue Charlie Mersak and Liam Newbold scored for Vics Ben Rankin and Elliott Smith for Amesbury. Romsey Town went down 3 1 at home to Totton & Eling, a Mark Fawley goal not enough against strikes from Harrison Yeadon, Diego Santarelli and Brett Williams and we finish with two 4 3 home wins at opposite ends of League’s geography. Ash United’s four came from Kareem Foster, Nathan Manyani, Emeka Nwaubani and Andre Smith with Fleetlands getting off the mark for the season through Cam Stone, Kai Sterne and Jamie Wrapson.

HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?

GROUND? The club play their games at the Abbey. The ground used to be known as the Shell Mex Ground.

WHO? The club was established in 1969, originally as a youth team. They later became members of the Southampton Saturday League, where they played until joining Division Three of the Hampshire League in 1993. The club were Division Three champions in 1996 97, earning promotion to Division Two. In 2004 the Hampshire League merged into the Wessex League, with Hamble becoming members of the new Division Three. In 2006 the division was renamed Division Two, but at the end of the 2006 07 the division was disbanded, and the club became founder members of the Hampshire Premier League. The club were Division One runners up in 2013 14 and were promoted to the Senior Division and went on to win the Senior Division in 2014 15. After finishing third the following season they were promoted to Division One of the Wessex League. The club were Division One champions in 2016 17, earning promotion to the Premier Division.

The two sides met last season in January 2019 in the Wessex Premier, with the Monks winning 3-0 at the Abbey, thanks to goals from Michael Byrne, Callum Kitcher and Barry Mason. In the previous return fixture in October 2018 the Street won here at Foxcotte Park thanks to goals from Shane Lock and Callum Sweeney that ensured all three points. The two sides also met in the Russell Cotes Cup with the Street progressing through in a tight game with a 2 1 win – an early Jazz Beavis goal and a Zach Neve goal ensured victory.
