JAMIE COLEMAN Good afternoon and welcome back to Foxcotte Park for today’s massive game against Hamworthy United in the FA Vase Second Round. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Hamworthy manager Tim Sills, his staff, players plus the committee and fans, who have made the journey to Andover today. Hamworthy have made a great start to the season in the Wessex Premier and will have their eye on promotion to the Southern League this season. Today’s game promises to be an exciting match and from my viewpoint, the lads have will want to build on the recent performances against Downton, Andover Town and Romsey Town. Since the turn of the month our results have gone all our way, we ended October with a bad defeat on the road to Laverstock but since then we’ve not lost in the league. November has been a really busy schedule, playing Saturday/Tuesday all the way through and we’ve picked up all 3 points beating Downton, Romsey and Ringwood who in turn are all good sides. We then played in the Russell Cotes cup where I pulled 8 first team players to give them a rest. It was a good chance to play players who haven’t picked up as many minutes as they’d hoped and pull some reserves in also. We lost 1-0 but on another day could have been 7 or 8 -1.

It was good practice all round, players needing minutes got them and players needing a rest got it. Focusing onto today’s big game, it’s the furthest any New Street side have gone in this competition and we are hoping to go further, I hope we have another big crowd here today because last Saturday your vast backing of the team really gave us that extra lift at a time when we needed it most. Today is another opportunity for the players to play against higher league opposition and stand up to be counted. We did against Cribbs in the last round and we have another opportunity to do the same again this afternoon against a very strong Hamworthy side. I truly believe however, if my lads can hit the levels they have shown this season we can cause an upset, we certainly will go for it! We are the home side and we are at Foxcotte Park, this is our house, this is our back yard and no one comes and takes anything from it!!! Enjoy the game.

BOARDROOM
WITH FOOTBALL CHAIRMAN JOHN WARD
Good afternoon and welcome back to Foxcotte Park for the FA Vase second round tie with Wessex Premier side Hamworthy United, who will no doubt bring a large following with them as they always do and hopefully make it a cracking cup-tie atmosphere today. It’s been a very hectic week again this week in getting things prepared for this afternoon’s match. We have had a few games at home recently and with also the Swifts and Ladies side, the pitch has been taking a bit of a battering of late. Can I take this opportunity again to thank everyone that helps at the club as it is for matches like today that we all do it for. These opportunities don’t come around very often and I know that JC and the lads are
6
prepared and ready for the battle and taks that awaits them this afternoon. I’d like to personally welcome Hamworthy United Chairman Steve Mitchener and the rest of their committee, their management team, players and supporters to Foxcotte Park. I hope you all have an enjoyable stay with us and have as safe journey back south to Poole later this evening. Last Saturday’s game against Romsey was not one for the faint hearted. Having got ourselves into a strong position, we looked like we were going to throw at least two points away with an uncharacteristic final 15 minute display. Thankfully we managed to turn the tide back in our favour with two quick goals to claim the three points that keeps us very much in touch with the leaders of the division. Tuesday night’s game with Lock’s Heath in the Russell Coats Cup was a typical cup game with us virtually doing most of the attacking but for once our finishing was not there.

SCOOTS THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING FROM THE DRESSING ROOM WITH MATT SCOTT
Welcome back to Foxcotte Park for probably one of our biggest games in the clubs history this afternoon as take on Hamworthy United in the FA Vase 2nd Round
“I WAS ALSO PLEASED FOR THE YOUNGER PLAYERS LIKE LEE, HARRY AND JOSH TO GET ON THE SCORE SHEET THAT NIGHT. ALL THREE HAVE COME INTO THE SIDE AND PROVIDED COMPETITION FOR PLACES.”
Since we beat Cribbs last month this game has been the one we have all been looking forward to, that’s not to say that we have taken our eye off our main aim, which is promotion this season, but it’s been nice to have something to look forward to, especially having a cup game at home..
It was like waiting for a bus and then three come along at once with not having a cup tie at home for ages, we then get 3 drawn at home at once. We got a much deserved victory over Andover Town a couple of weeks ago and it was great team performance to weather the early pressure that Town put us under and then press home our advantage in the second half when they went down to 10 men.
Last Saturday’s Saturday win against Romsey Town was a tough game, as they came into the match on a bit of form and they kept battling away and were rewarded when they came back from 22 0 down to draw level. It looked like the momentum was with them and we certain took our foot of the certainly gas. Fortunately we were able to get back in front thanks to Josh’ss quick thinking and then Reece took advantage of their keeper being miles out of his area to seal the three points.
It wasn’tt one of our best performances performan but we picked the points to keep ourselves up in the promotion pack. Be assured that the lads are really up for today’ss game and will be giving everything to ensure we are in the draw for the next round but it’s going to be extremely tough and so we need you to be loud and be the 12th 12 man out there for us this afternoon. Enjoy the game and stay safe.
I was also pleased for the younger players like Lee, Harry and Josh to get on the score sheet that night. All three have come into the side and provided competition for places and have more than staked a place in the starting eleven with their recent performances. I’d hate to be the manager with that selection headache!

let's go THE STREET HIT THE ROAD AGAIN NEXT WEEK WHEN THEY MAKE THE TRIP SOUTH TO PLAY VERWOOD TOWN AT POTTERNE PARK
VERWOOD TOWN WHO? Verwood Town, aka the
Potters, from Potterne Park, are the Street’s opponents on the 27th November. Adie Arnold’s side drew 2-2 against Laverstock and Ford on Tuesday night and currently lie in 6th place in League 1, one place and level on points with Street but have played 3 games more. .HOW THEY DOING? After a great start with victories over Fleet Spurs (5-0) and Whitchurch United (4-1), they then suffered back-to-back defeats to New Milton Town and Folland Sports, The Town then won 3-0 at Infinity, but the Town’s league form has been inconsistent so far this season. That inconsistency is shown in the following weeks as they lost 2-0 away at Fawley AFC in the Wessex League Cup and then 5-4 at home to Newport IOW. Recent results include, a 2-2 against Andover Town, followed by a 3-1 reverse at home to Ringwood before a victory on the island and a 6-0 demolition of Millbrook last Saturday. WHERE? The Street make their first trip to Long Lane in two years. The Street faithful have an 82-mile round-trip to get there and back. It is pay on the day for Street fans and details can be found on the opposite page. There is seating in the main stand near the halfway line next to the dugouts. The Potter’s home record this season currently stands with 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats in their nine matches at home, scoring 24 goals but conceding 19.
10

At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit to stay on Manor Road and then turn left onto Potterne Way. HAVE WE BEEN THERE BEFORE? BEFORE The Street won on their last Wessex League visit to Potterne Park in August 2019, 2019 winning 2-0 courtesy of goals from Luke Hooper in the 19th minute and a 86th strike from Ilyas Warshow on as a substitute. Overall the Street have won 3 times of their 8 visits to Potterne Park, Park with two of those victories coming in their last two visits. The second victory was during the promotion season in 2018 when we won 4-1 at Potters with goals from Luke Neller, Jazz Beavis, Beavis Gunner Yates and Shane Lock.. welcome HAMWORTHY UNITED
It gives us great pleasure to welcome everyone associated with Romsey Town Football Club to Foxcotte Park this afternoon. The Hammer’s make the journey to our corner of Hampshire for the first time since their only other visit to Foxcotte Park, a 1-0 defeat in March 2019. The Street actually took maximum points off Hamworthy in that one season in the Wessex Premier. Ilyas Warshow scored the only goal in a tight contest at Foxcotte Park. This afternoon’s FA Vase tie promises to be a an entertaining game with Hamworthy coming into the game with just one defeat so far this season, a recent 2-1 defeat to Moneyfields in the Wessex League Cup. The Hammer’s kicked off their season with a 2-1 away victory at Brockenhurst, thanks to a brace from Matt Neale. Lightning struck twice when the two teams met in the FA Cup 4 days later with the same 2-1 score line. This time the scorers were Jamie Beasley and Cameron Munn. A 1-1 draw at Stoneham was followed with a 3-1 home victory over Portland Utd. Further progress in the FA Cup was achieved with wins over Westbury United and also Southern Premier side Merthyr Town following a replay at the County Ground.
14
Further routine league victories against Alton, US Portsmouth and Hythe & Dibden Dibde came next before an FA Cup exit away at Cirencester Town, Matt Neale scoring the Hammer’s Hammer consolation. Progress in the FA Vase was achieved away at Corsham Town with the aid of penalties, following a 1-1 1 draw after 90 minutes and Bemerton were also lso seen off in the Wessex League Cup with a 2-1 1 score line. A 2-2 2 away draw at Alresford Town was followed up with a fine 3--0 home win over AFC Portchester, this would be the clubs last home game for nearly a month. month Wins at Bournemouth, Moneyfields and Hamble in i the league proceeded another penalty shootout success at Cadbury Heath in Bristol after another 1-1 1 draw in normal time. The recent results have ve seen the Hammer’s win 3-0 0 at US Portsmouth with Max Wilcock getting a brace and Adam Costello also on o the score sheet. A 3-1 1 victory over Shaftesbury in the Dorset Senior Cup and a 0-0 0 draw at fellow promotion candidates Bashley followed. Moneyfields 2-1 1 win the League Cup came courtesy of late goals from Joshua Bailey and a 90th minute winner from rom James Franklyn. The Hammers got back to winning ways last Saturday with a 7-0 0 thumping of lowly Christchurch.
in opposition AN AT-A-GLANCE GUIDE TO OUR VISITORS FROM THE COUNTY GROUND ► THE MANAGER TIM SILLS. Former Football League Striker Tims Sills joined the club in October 2019. Having previously been Assistant Manager and First Team Coach at Weymouth and Blackfield & Langley respectively in recent years.
► GOALKEEPER SHANE MURPHY. Another former Hammer, Shane returns to the County Ground this season after recent stints at AFC Totton and Dorchester. Another great presence for us to have leading from the back.
► DEFENDERS HARVEY WRIGHT. Harvey joins us from fellow Wessex Premier League and Dorset based side Christchurch FC. Harvey has great maturity for a young age and can play in all positions across the back line; a defensive wall in the middle of our defence our a rampaging full back. He adds great depth to our squad. TONY ROLLS. ony had a successful first season with the Hammers last term and will be looking to reconfirm his position in the heart of Hamworthy's defence. Strong in the air, good pace and like to bring the ball out from defence, he definitely is a Rolls Royce of a defender. DREW ECCOTT-YOUNG. Drew is a baby faced assassin. He may come across shy and reserved but he does not shirk a challenge and has great energy and ability on the ball. Drew’s more favourable position would be in midfield but also has the ability to play right full back. BILLY WALKER. Billy also joins us for the 2021/22 season after a successful campaign with local rivals Christchurch. Billy has all the characteristics of a great defender; great in the air, strong in the tackle and has fantastic leadership qualities. CRIT CLARKE. Left footed Crit brings strength and natural balance to a Hamworthy defence. Having previously played for the club, Crit re-joined at the back end of last season and will be looking to make that left back berth his own. DECLAN RANDALL. Managers Player of the Year last season. Predominately Dec has played centrally but he is as proficient in playing either full back role giving his all every time he plays. Over the past 2 seasons Dec has wrapped up almost 90 appearances showing his importance to the club. ADAM COSTELLO. One of the jokers of the squad, Cossy isn't the biggest but certainly is one of the best defenders in the league. Quick, good in the air and comfortable on the ball, Cossy is a fan's and player's favourite. CONNOR COCKLIN. Defender come Striker Connor excelled as a make shift Centre Forward on occasions last year. A player who wears his heart on his sleeve, his competitive and rather vocal nature should not be dampened. A fan of the treatment table, Connor is a great player to have in the squad.
To find out more about Hamworthy United visit: www.hamworthyunitedfc.com
► MIDFIELDERS STEVE DEVLIN. This man needs no introduction. ‘Dev’s is more famously known for playing across the river for Poole Town. After a serious injury we had the opportunity to sign Steve and his wand of a left foot at the back end of the 2020/21 season. Unplayable on his day. CAM MUNN. After last seasons establishment as a key player, Cam is now also part of Eastleigh's Development squad. An attacking midfielder/striker, Cam has great attacking ability. Another season to develop with us, Cam is definitely one to keep an eye on. JACK LOVELL. Jack brings a wealth of experience representing teams at a higher level, especially Wimborne Town. Jack offers us more attacking threat in the forward positions and has a real hunger and desire which is why he is a great signing for the Hammers. MAX BUCKLER. Formerly of Bridport, Dorchester and Portland, we are delighted to welcome 'home' Maxwell. This combative midfielder will add skill, desire and a will to win to the squad. JAMIE BEASLEY. BEASLEY Jamie is no stranger to anyone at Hamworthy having played for the club previously. 'Beas' has a wand of a left foot , is quick and poses something different to the opposition playing from the left hand side. MATTY NEALE. Matty brings undoubted quality and skill to our squad. Matt can operate out wide or through the middle and we are very excited that he is a member of Hamworthy as opposed to an opponent! JAMIE FILKINS. FILKINS The "fox" is our modern day utility man. Being able ab to occupy a variety of positions, Filks has played in midfield, up front and in full back positions last season. A manager's dream, Foxy always gives 100% and is a players favourite around the club. LEE FRANCIS. After the box to box midfielder left Wimborne Town 2 seasons ago, Francis made the short move across Dorset to join the Hammers and has been an ever present since. Captain of the side, Franno leads by example on and off the pitch.
► STRIKERS EDDIE HODGE. Last season's top scorer with 14 goals and the Supporter's Player of the Year. Predominately playing off the main striker, Eddie found some fantastic form towards the end of the season playing as a central striker. "Ted" has worked his way through the Youth teams to establish himself as a an important member of the team. MAX WILCOCK. Max, also referred to as ‘Rhino’, is as strong as, well a Rhino. Max has many facets to his game, he can hold the ball up and he can run in beyond. Another welcome addition to the squad.

The Roman Emperor, Vespasian, brought the Second Augustan Legion to the harbour in 43 AD and founded Hamworthy. The Romans continued to use the harbour throughout the occupation.[3] Hamworthy was the site of an Iron Age settlement before it was taken over by the Romans in the 1st century and named Moriconium. The Romans made use Poole Harbour, and built a road from Hamworthy to Badbury Rings. The closure of Poole Power Station in the early 1990s and of other industrial sites close to the bridge has provided an area for regeneration. This included a second bridge crossing, and major house building. The Twin Sails Bridge, opened in March 2012 runs alongside the old lifting bridge. 2005 WESSEX LEAGUE CUP WINNERS Alex Pike’s Hamworthy would make a dream start in their first season in the Wessex League with silverware at the end of it thanks to a League Cup final victory over Thatcham Town. The match played at Hurn Bridge, Christchurch would eventually see the Hammers victorious 3-2 after extra-time. The Hammers would end the league campaign in 15th position on 51 points – winning 14 and drawing 9 of their 42 games. They scored 51 goals and conceded 72.
2006 DORSET SENIOR CUP WINNERS
2019 BEST FA VASE RUN The Hammers would achieve their best run in the FA Vase to date when they reached the 4th round. They would start in the 1st Qualifying Round with a 5-0 hammering of Amesbury Town at home. This was followed up with safe passage into the 1st round when Fawley were defeated 3-1 also at home. A narrow 2-1 victory away at Shaftesbury was next and then Falmouth Town came to the County Ground in the Second Round and were defeated 3-1. Fellow Wessex side Hamble were waiting in the 3rd Round ad following a tight 11 draw at Hamble, the Hammers progressed 41 in the replay. A trip to Willand Rovers, near Exeter, came in the 4th Round and a narrow 10 defeat in front of a crowd of 234, would see the FA Vase run ended. Willand would eventually lose to Wembley finalists Cray Valley Paper Mills in the Quarter-Finals.
Hamworthy would reach the Dorset Senior Cup final in 2006. Their run started with a 3-0 victory over Bridport in the Third Round – who were the holders of the cup, after narrowly defeating the Hammers the previous season 1-0, before defeating Holt United 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals. A narrow 2-1 win over Verwood Town at neutral venue Wimborne Town in the SemiFinals, would setup a meeting with fellow Wessex League One side Poole Town in the final again at Wimborne. The Hammers would go on to win the trophy 2-1.

2021 HAMMERS STUN MERTHYR IN FA CUP Hamworthy United continued their march in the FA Cup, stunning Merthyr Town last night. Tim Sills's Hammers compete two levels below Merthyr in the league pyramid. But the Wessex Premier outfit, who drew 0-0 in Wales at the weekend, shocked their Southern Premier South opponents with a 2-0 victory in the replay. The first qualifying round tie, which took place at Wimborne Town's New Cuthbury, was goalless at the break. But the deadlock was broken midway through the second half when Lee Francis headed in at the back post. And the lead was soon extended. Jamie Beasley, who was sent off in the goalless draw at the weekend, was brought on as a second-half substitute and scored almost instantly, smashing into the top corner. Merthyr saw a strong penalty shout waved away soon after when Tom Hillman went over in the area, as the Martyrs saw their cup hopes go up in smoke. The win earned Hamworthy £2,250 in prize money. Taking to Twitter after the game, Hammers boss Sills wrote: "What. A. Result! This group keep writing their own chapters as a unit. Proud doesn't cover it." Hamworthy, who have already beaten Brockenhurst and Westbury United in the FA Cup this season, would head to Cirencester Town of Southern Division One South and lose 3-1.

2021 LEAGUE CUP VICTORY OVER PORTSMOUTH The Hammers beat US Portsmouth in the Wessex League Cup Final 3-1 and deny the Portsmouth side the opportunity to make history of becoming the first side from the second Wessex tier to win the cup. GOALS from Steve Devlin, Eddie Hodge and Ollie Davies helped Hamworthy United triumph in the final of the Wessex League Cup. Tim Sills’s side sealed a 3-1 victory over United Services Portsmouth on Saturday to claim the silverware at AFC Portchester. Former Poole Town and Dorchester Town man Devlin set the ball rolling for Hammers after just three minutes. He let fly with a vicious free-kick from the edge of the box which found the bottom corner of the net. And Hammers doubled their advantage when Matt Neale’s cutback was perfect for the run of Hodge, who kept his cool to slot home just before the quarter of an hour mark. Portsmouth did pull a goal back with 20 minutes left when James Franklyn’s deflected close-range strike beat keeper Shane Murphy. But Davies ensured the trophy was off to the Country Ground when his strike came off a covering defender and fell into the net five minutes from time.

FROM THE
AWAY END
Steve Michener is a club Chairman and has been involved with the Hammer’s for over 48 years, a previous player at reserve level and then as Chairman. Today he answers the questions in the away end... WORD ON THE STREET: What have been the high and low points to the season so far? STEVE: High point: FA Cup 1st Qualifying round when we beat Southern Premier side Merthyr Town after a replay. Low point: Failure of the Dorset County FA’s floodlights, preventing us from playing evening matches at home since the beginning of September! We have literally been on the road since then. WOTS: Which Hamworthy player do Street need to keep an eye on today and why? STEVE: Nice try! You’ll have to find out Haha! WOTS: How good a job is Tim Sills doing? Does he have a good relationship with the fans? STEVE: Tim is doing a great job for the club, and is very popular with our supporters. When last season was ‘annulled’ because of Covid-19, we were 4 points clear at the top of the table! However, we were able to go on and win the Wessex League Cup in May. WOTS: Which of your new signings are most impressed by? STEVE: We didn’t have too many new signings, in fact, one of them returned. The core of the squad has been consistent now for over two seasons. WOTS: Tell us about you. Why do you support the Hammer’s? When did it all start? What was your first game? What do you remember about it?

In 2018, after afte a big club extension, the club became a limited company and I was elected ViceChairman. I became Chairman in January 2020 following the death of the current Chairman. It’s been a vocation and enjoyed every minute! WOTS: Who is your favourite Hamworthy player of all time and why? STEVE: Irvin Brown, Brown Ex-professional in his day, with Bournemouth & Brighton. Played alongside him for Hamworthy United. He later became manager, physio and a really wonderful person. Sadly taken before his time. Prior to Covid, we would always celebrate Irvin Brown on FA Cup Final day. WOTS: Which hich is your favourite season following Hamworthy? And why? STEVE: Too many really, but I suppose winning the Wessex League ue Cup in our season in 2004/05.. WOTS: What would be a successful season for Hamworthy? ? And what’s your prediction for today’s game? STEVE: Our ultimate aim is promotion, promotion but we know nothing is guaranteed in football. I hope we win today, but I know it will be difficult.

RINGWOOD TOWN 0-1 STREET LOCK 12
WHAT’S THE STORY? Street carried on their recent run of good results with a 1-0 victory over Ringwood Town a couple of weeks ago, thanks to an early Shane Lock strike. Andover New Street didn't take long to dominate the opening exchanges. Mikey Davis was causing Ringwood plenty of problems down the left flank and Street were having very good possession. Harry Lawton seemed to be everywhere but he scuffed a shot wide when a good chance appeared. However it wasn't long before Street took the lead. Good play from Davis and Phillips set up Shane Lock who made no mistake and New Street had deservedly gone one up. Lawton then had a shot saved by the home keeper and it seemed likely that more goals would soon be on the cards. Ringwood were not in the match and in fact their first attack didn't materialise until 25 minutes on the clock when Sean O'Brien did well to thwart a breakaway that looked like bringing the sides level. Reece Rusher, who had been causing the home side plenty of problems, swapped wings with Mikey Davis and New Street continued to push forward. In the second half, O'Brien had to punch a Ringwood free kick clear. The game was now much more even and both sides had chances without capitalising. Plenty of midfield action but chances for either side were rare and when the referee eventually blew his whistle after an interminable amount of injury time the 3 points were on their way to Street. www.ansfc.co.uk

EMANS 10
WHAT’S THE STORY? The Street progressed to the North Hants Senior Cup semifinals with a thumping 5-1 victory against Andover Town, who were reduced to 10 men early in the second half. An early Town corner saw home keeper Michael Weatherall keep out a James Ritchie header with the help of the crossbar and they should have profited from a Ben Emans cross which was rather scuffed wide of the post from close range. Reward for their pressure came in the eleventh minute when Brendan Holmes sent Emans clear on the right and his speed and control took him through a rather hesitant defence and round the keeper before rolling the ball in to an empty net. To their credit the home side slowly worked their way back in to the game and after Shane Lock and Rusher had gone close they fashioned an equaliser ten minutes before the break. Lock made ground on the left before Ross Cook squared the ball across the area for Reece Rusher to beat the rather stranded Steinborne-Busse in the Andover goal. Street made it two goals in three minutes when Cook’s clever pass sent Mikey Davis in to the area, the keeper blocked the shot with his legs and Lock was quickest to the rebound.
MOMENTS
HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?
Andover’s Jay Jay Tucker saw a red card early in the second half after an altercation with Rusher, the latter receiving a yellow card. Lock’s through ball which found two green and black shirts just the right side of the offside flag and it was full back Lee Morris, who coolly slotted home and then an error by Steinbourne-Busse, as he tried to claim a difficult bouncing ball, didn’t hold it, and Harry Lawton scored from close range. Then a corner was partially cleared only for Josh Jeffery to send an unstoppable shot high in to the roof of the net from some twenty yards and put the icing on the cake.

JEFFERY REFLECTS ON CUP VICTORY
Josh Jeffery came off the bench to make a difference in Streets recent wins against Downton and Andover Town in the North Hants Cup. Jeffery’s pace and ability to run at defenders has caught the eye in recent matches where he has come off the bench to make an impact during the latter stages of the game. This was capped with a spectacular strike against Andover Town last Tuesday and an important goal last Saturday against Romsey Town, just when Romsey looked to be back in the game after coming back to 2-2. The strike against Andover Town sealed a memorable victory against the local rivals from the Portway. The chance fell to Jeffery just outside the area, after the Town defence half cleared a Street corner and he proceeded to fire it into the net via the cross bar. The winger/striker was happy that he took his chance and hopes he has proven what he can do to manager Jamie Coleman. “The gaffer sent me on with a job to do and luckily I was in the right position at the right time,”.” said Jeffery. “The chance came straight to me and I was happy to get on the end of it and put it away, hopefully I can show the gaffer that I can do that week in, week out.” www.ansfc.co.uk
facebook.com/AndoverNewStreet
The win against Romsey Town means the Street maintain their push for promotion and stay in 5th position with at least one or two games in hand with the teams above them. Jeffery believes that the Street have only just started to get going g following their defeat at Laverstock & Ford. ”We We are just starting to get going and we are starting to pick up momentum.” momentum. Jeffery told Word on the Street. “We We had a slight blip against Laverstock but we are back on it now, we look good in possession sion and look capable of scoring all over pitch.” Jeffery admitted that he has been working harder in training and giving an extra 10 per cent to try and push his way into the side. The winger is happy that his hard work has paid off with his recent goals. “I’ve ve been working hard, I always give 100 per cent but sometimes you have to give 110 per cent,” said Jeffery. “I’ve ve tried my hardest at every training session and it’ss paid off with me getting on the pitch and making a telling contribution contribut to the team and helping them progress in the cup and also getting the three points against Downton and also Romsey Town,, especially my goal against Romsey as it made such a difference and swung the game back in our favour after they came back from 2-0 down to 2-2.”

A 5-0 home defeat to Team Solent was built up as a big ‘6-pointer’ but ultimately ruined by the referee that reduced the Street down to 9 men inside the opening half hour, which included goalkeeper George Baxter, with Callum Sweeney taking over between the sticks. Hope was restored with a 1-0 home victory over Tadley Calleva with Sweeney scoring near the end of the game. The Street then travelled to the Island and despite dominating the game, as they did in the home game against Cowes Sports, had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Shane Lock deservedly equalising in the second half and despite putting Cowes under pressure, could not add the important second goal. A creditable 4-2 defeat at home to leaders Sholing was followed up with an excellent 3-2 victory over Portland United at Foxcotte Park, thanks to a Matt Scott brace and Ilyas Warshow scoring the winner in the 69th minute. A 3-0 victory over South Wonston Swifts in the Andover Open Cup was next, Sweeney opened the scoring in the 1st minute and Lock doubled the advantage with Nathan Rae completing the scoring.

Callum Sweeney nearly provided the first goal when he worked himself into a shooting opportunity but saw his effort go over and Matt Williams nearly got onto a through pass from Sweeney but saw the opportunity o slip away. Warshow was as ever the willing runner upfront and his persistence was rewarded when he shut down Tom Rees, the Hamworthy keeper, and was able to nick the ball away and despite being brought down by the keeper, was able to tap home. Street keeper George Baxter had to be alert to keep out two long range drives and then pulled off an excellent save to deny Dan Cann. Without skipper Jamie Coleman, veteran Michael Richmond stepped up and produced a solid defensive display alongside Captain Capta of the Day Matt Scott. The Street held on comfortably enough to rack up back to back league victories and so very nearly made it 2-0 2 late on when Zach Hine went inches wide of the right hand post, following a mazy run.

WESSEX LEAGUE
LATEST NEWS Portland United boss Franklyn Clarke has revealed his squad was invited to set their own targets for this season in the build-up to hosting Hamble Club.
Roach seals Royales Move
In their midweek de-brief after the 6-0 defeat at leaders Horndean, Portland’s players set targets that were “in line” with Clarke and assistant Sam Poole’s lofty aims of their own. With Portland singing off the same hymn sheet, the Blues now turn their attentions to 16th-placed Hamble, who lie one spot and five points above the islanders in the Wessex League Premier Division. Clarke said: “We asked them to lead in terms of what they want from the season and where do we want to finish. “We asked them to set their own targets and where they’ve said they want to finish is in line with what me and Sam want. “In order to do that we need to be winning games like (tomorrow) coming, especially at home. “Our home form’s good, so we’ll be looking to continue that.”He added: “We feel we’ve covered all bases going into Hamble. They’re just ahead of us in the league so we’re looking to close that gap.” Skipper Ryan McKechnie (knee) is estimated to be two weeks away from full fitness and fellow midfielder Josh Williams serves a one-game suspension. Goalkeeper Mike Edgar misses out, so new signing Brad Smith could deputise between the sticks. Fellow new recruit Liam Sayers could also feature after scoring a hat-trick for the reserves last time out.

Folland Sports striker Clayd Roach has signed for Wessex Premier AFC Portchester. The Pacey Striker/Winger is current top scorer in the Wessex League 1 and will bring plenty of goals to the Portchester attack, scoring 16 in 9 starts this season! The Planemakers, who currently sit in second place in the league are surely to miss Roach’s goals as he nearly has scored half the sides total goals this season – 39. Roach’s last appearance for Folland Sports was back in mid September, when he was substituted during the 41 defeat at Bemerton Heath Harlequins
ROUND-UP Tabletoppers Horndean facing 'biggest game of the season so far' at lowly Amesbury
Manager Glenn Turnbull admits Moneyfields' FA Vase celebrations unlikely to be forgotten as they prepare for second AFC Portchester Dover Road meeting this season
Horndean boss Michael Birmingham takes his Wessex League Premier Division table-toppers to second-bottom Amesbury on Saturday claiming: It's the biggest game of our season so far.
Moneyfields manager Glenn Turnbull fears his side's FA Vase celebrations could provide Wessex Premier Division rivals AFC Portchester an added incentive to claim victory when the two teams meet for the second time this season at Dover Road on Saturday.
The Deans responded to just a second defeat of the season at Hamble by returning to winning ways with a thumping 6-0 home win over Portland last weekend. But Birmingham does want his players to rest on their laurels as they resumed normal service this season with a crushing success against the Dorset-based side. The Horndean boss admitted the manner in which his side went down at Hamble was 'unacceptable'. And he will be warning his squad not to start thinking they're in for an easy ride at second-bottom Amesbury or moving forward for the remainder of the season.
www.ansfc.co.uk
Turnbull recalls his troops 'celebrating well' after that victory as Moneyfields made it into the first round proper of the national competition. But with former Moneys manager Dave Carter bringing his Portchester side back to Dover Road for a league encounter this weekend, Turnbull insists that Vase defeat and the scenes after are likely to stick in their opponents' minds. The Moneyfields boss said: ‘As I say, they’ll (Portchester) be coming in looking for it, they’re on a bit of a roll, they’ve got points to prove. We celebrated well after the Vase win so I’m sure they’ll have that in their memory banks and will want to put that right. Ninth-placed Portchester travel to Moneys sitting three points and four places above Turnbull's men in the Wessex Premier table, although they have played four matches more. But the Moneyfields boss is wary of the challenge his side will face against a 'flying' Portchester side, who are on the back of successive wins having netted 10 times without conceding in their previous outings at Christchurch and at home to Amesbury.

TOP TEN COLLECTION THIS WEEK WE LOOK AT THE TOP 10 CRAZIEST PREMIERSHIP GOALS.... 10 GARETH BALE –
8
TOTTENHAM v LIVERPOOL 2012
TOTTENHAM v WATFORD 2007
Probably one of the funniest goals ever scored. Bale scored for both Tottenham and Liverpool during this game, netting an own goal against his side by virtue of his face. Steven Gerrard took a shot on goal from Jonjo Shelvey's corner, only for it to be cleared by a Tottenham defender as far as Bale's face just a couple of feet from the net. It ricochets comically into the goal, as if straight from a pinball game. Poor Bale.
9
PETER ENCKLEMAN –
VILLA v BIRMINGHAM 2002
The fact that this goal should never really have stood just adds to its bizarreness – not to mention that it happened during a particularly fiery derby game between Aston Villa and Birmingham. Olof Mellberg's throw-in looked to have been routine, until it was horrendously misjudged by Villa goalkeeper Enckelmen. The ball grazed his boot slightly and he could only watch in horror as it dribbled into the net, piling onto Villa's woes that saw them ultimately lose the game 3-0.
PAUL ROBINSON –
To be fair, this goal came from a miscommunication between the Watford defenders. Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson took a massive free-kick from his own area that somehow bested England team-mate Ben Foster, taking an unfortunate bounce before finding itself in the net. Foster could do nothing about it, and could only watch on as his side went on to lose 3-1 at White Hart Lane.
7
MICHAIL ANTONIO –
WEST HAM v SOUTHAMPTON 2015
West Ham winger Antonio is not known as being the most gifted player the Premier League has ever seen. But his iconic strike against Southampton, scored through a combination of all four of his thrashing limbs, was a mess in anyone's book. Antonio starts by running into the Southampton box pretty confidently, before taking a tumble after tripping on his own feet. He nosedives straight into the ground, where he heads into a cluster of Southampton defenders, only for the ball to somehow ricochet off of the melee of players. It definitely gets a touch off of Antonio's head, which is on the ground, before bouncing into the net and past the goalkeeper. Antonio has absolutely no idea of what just happened, but celebrates accordingly.
6
JASON CUNDY –
TOTTENHAM v IPSWICH 1992
For someone known for his robust tackles, it was only fitting that Cundy's most famous goal came by way of an attempt at a challenge. In Cundy's effort to clear the ball, he took a tumble – and, with the help of the wind, the power of his kick and a whole lot of luck, saw his attempt fly over Ipswich goalkeeper Craig Forrest and straight into the net.
38
5
DION DUBLIN
3
STAN COLLYMORE –
COVENTRY v NEWCASTLE 1997
LIVERPOOL v BLACKBURN 1996
4
2
Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given made sure to look to his left and right after picking up a ball from a high cross when taking on Coventry City, but crucially not behind him where a lone Dublin was lurking. Given placed the ball in front of him for a goal-kick but was unaware of the lurking England striker, who managed to scoop the ball from under the goalkeeper's eyes and net it smoothly into the Newcastle goal.
TIM HOWARD –
EVERTON v BOLTON 2012
Goalkeepers providing assists is one thing, but goalkeepers scoring goals is another. Adam Bogdan would be forgiven for blaming the wind when he conceded a rather spectacular effort from opposition goalkeeper Tim Howard back in 2012. Sylvan Distin's back pass made Everton's Howard make a rushed clearance, forcing him to sky the ball, which ultimately catches the wind, beating the outfield Bolton players and bouncing just outside of the box before landing in Bogdan's net. Howard, to his credit, felt bad for the goal, stating after the game: "For our goal I was disappointed from a goalkeepers' union standpoint. You never want to see that happen. It's not nice, it's embarrassing, so I felt for Adam but you have to move on from it."

Newer Premier League fans will not be able to appreciate the quality of modern football pitches compared to those back in the day, which roughly resembled a Sunday League pitch. Against Blackburn, Liverpool forward ward Collymore fired the ball from inside the Blackburn half and shot towards goal, though it did not look to be the cleanest of strikes. It seemed to be an easy job for England international Tim Flowers to take care of – he even has his hands ready and outstretched o – but thanks to the torn-up up pitch, the ball took a cruel bounce on a rogue mound of dirt and flew high over his shoulder and to the net.

1 DARREN BENT – SUNDERLAND v LIVERPOOL 2009
Ah, the infamous beach ball incident goal. The cruel irony of this goal is that it was at the fault of a Liverpool fan who somehow thought it would be a funny idea to throw a beach ball onto the pitch of the Stadium of Light. Pepe Reina looked to have been comfortable saving Bent's shot, only for the forward's effort to be hit by the beach ball – eventually diverting the effort into goal. Referee Mike Jones allowed the goal to stand, giving Sunderland all three points against the Reds.

RETURN OF THE REPLAY By Sam Emery
The return of replays in the FA Cup showed its value to Non-League clubs this week. The FA made the decision to scrap replays last season in order to ease fixture congestion in light of an adjusted schedule due to the pandemic. Drawn ties went straight to extra time and then penalties, if needed, to avoid a midweek rematch. There were fears among lower-league clubs that the change could become permanent but The FA reintroduced replays for this season’s competition. They were made mandatory in all rounds of the qualifying competition and up to and including the fourth round proper. In 1991, penalties were introduced after the first replay to avoid a series of rematches. It was 50 years ago last weekend when it took Alvechurch and Oxford City 17 days and six games to reach a conclusion. Their five fourth round qualifying replays – 1-1, 1-1, 0-0, 0-0, 1-0 – after the initial tie finished 2-2 broke the previous record of nine hours, 40 minutes set in the 1924-25 season by Leyton and Ilford. The FA’s eventual rule change was welcomed. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the benefit of replays were laid bare. Solihull Moors were picked for broadcast by ITV4 when they took on League One side Wigan Athletic in front of a sell-out crowd. Stockport County didn’t have a seat to spare either when over 10,000 packed into Edgeley Park on Wednesday night for their replay against Bolton Wanderers, with the BBC cameras in attendance. Each club also received a healthy FA broadcast fee of £32,500 to go along with their bumper admission revenue. Both nights promised to be memorable for new fans and old but the ties wouldn’t have happened had it not been for replays. There is, however, another way of looking at the dynamic replays can create. On their way to a third round clash with Tottenham Hotspur last season, Marine twice won on penalties.
www.ansfc.co.uk
facebook.com/AndoverNewStreet
The first was in a second round qualifying tie at Runcorn Linnets before winning again on spot kicks at EFL side Colchester United in the first round proper. If Marine were to have played a replay against the League Two side, arguably, their FA Cup run might have ended sooner soon and Jose Mourinho and co. wouldn’t have stepped foot inside Rossett Park. Alternatively, St Albans City have benefitted three times from replays in their adventure to the second round proper this season. They beat Concord Rangers, Met Police and Corinthian-Casuals Casuals all on home soil after drawing in the away tie. Sometimes, though, replays will give the opportunity for a once in a lifetime opportunity. Josh Coulson, the Southend United centre-back, centre always joked he was glad he headed a good chance over the bar late on for Cambridge United against Manchester United in i a huge FA Cup fourth round proper clash. The reason being was it meant the U’s ended up drawing 0-0 0 and would take on the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie United in a replay at Old Trafford with 74,511 in attendance. With replays scrapped from the fifth round onwards, the top-flight flight clubs should be happy enough to let the lower-league league sides keep on having their big days in the famous cup.

league look Leadership of Division One changed again with Bemerton Heath taking over top spot after Follands defeat at Newport. A single goal from Cameron Roach gave the Wiltshire side all three points at Ash United whilst on the Island, Follands lost by four goals to one at Smallbrook. The Port goals came from Joe Craig (2), Joe Wright and Arran Burford with the lone reply credited to Will Gange. On Friday evening Andover Town came from two one down at Totton and Eling to win 4-2 after scoring three goals in the closing minutes. Two goals from Alex Sawyer for the Millers and strikes from Brendan Holmes, Jordan Smith, Ben Emans and a Joel Bertie penalty for Town, the last in the sixth minute of stoppage time. An almost similar tale at Foxcotte on Saturday where New Street were 2-0 up against Romsey thanks to goals from Matt Scott and Harry Lawton. Jack Odam and Liam Magee bought the scores level only for late strikes from Josh Jeffery and Reece Rusher to give the home side the points. Verwood remain in the top six after an emphatic 6-0 win at Test Park put a big dent in Millbrook’s recent form thanks to a hat trick from Sam Chilman together with goals from Jake Kelly, Matt Vining and Ollie Davies. New Milton and Downton shared two goals and the points – Tyrrell Sampson and Callum Kitcher on target –and a lone Russell Jones goal saw Laverstock & Ford home at Fawley. Whitchurch returned to winning ways with a 3-1 home defeat of Ringwood with two goals from Ryan Long and one from Nick Yeomans, Harrison Fay for Ringwood.
48
East Cowes Vics found form at home with two Jimmi Burton goals giving them victory over Petersfield for whom Brandon Jewell was on the scoresheet. And a second win of the season for Fleet Spurs with a best of three goals success at Infinity, a result that sends the losers in to the bottom three, Khoury Taylor and Tom White with the important goals for Spurs with Jamie White on target for Infinity. All this leaves Bemerton and Newport leading Division One with pursuers queuing up behind.

HOLD THE WITH GAME OF THE PEOPLE EDITOR NEIL JENSEN Unless something dramatic happens, it does look as though football in Britain will soon welcome back terracing of some sort at the highest level of the game. For a generation of fans, terracing has never really been an option, unless they watched lower league or nonleague football. As an example, my youngest son, aged 26, seeing the swaying hordes behind the goals in a 1970s game on TV, couldn’t believe the authorities took such huge risks in cramming people on concrete steps with just a few barriers in place. We have, to our cost, learned. That’s not to say that standing at matches isn’t commonplace, for fans seem to reject their seats for the entire 90 minutes at some grounds, ignoring any appeal to sit down and threats of ejection. In most cases, the stewards have given up and allow it to continue. But this tells us there is a segment of the average football crowd that really does want to stand up. In theory, the reintroduction of standing on an official basis should reduce ticket prices, although it is unlikely to change much as there will be costs involved in recalibrating stadium seating plans. In the longer run, one can only hope clubs try and introduce a more acceptable pricing structure. This is important because the majority of people who will warm to the return of terraces will be the younger members of the footballing community. Like many fans, I graduated from
54
crumbling terraces and moved into the stands when I was no longer prepared to tolerate the hustle and bustle, and when I could afford the admission. Today, I might occasionally stand at my local club and I do enjoy the age-old age ritual of leaning against a rusting barrier, craning my neck here and there to catch a glimpse of the action. It’s clear the terracing is where the real fermentation of the football spirit takes place. You make more noise if you stand up and being seated makes people more reserved. If you want further proof of that, just consider a music gig where artists often encourage en the crowd to get out of their seat. Willl we feel comfortable using terracing again? With covid-19 19 in its post-vaccination post stage, how will we react to being shoulder-toshoulder shoulder with hundreds of people in a confined area? From the spectator’s point of view, what is more hygienic – sitting closely together or standing side-by-side? side There’s an argument there’s little difference, but at the same time, there’s a strong case to suggest that being on a terrace (not the sardine-like sardine experience that epitomised swaying crowds of the 1960s and early 1970s) gives more scope for movement. In theory you can give yourself as much room as you want if the crowd capacity is kept to a modest level. In a seat, you have very little control, other than to get up and leave. I believe a carefully-controlled controlled terrace, in terms of numbers, could provide a solution for football spectating in the post-virus post climate. It won’t be to everyone’s taste – ultimately, it may not be to mine – but it would be sheer stupidity to restart football and not allow people the room to breathe their own air
